Chapter 149: Chapter 152: A Big Gift for You
After listening to him, Sonia Quincy first said, "Felix Preston, I believe you’ve never harassed anyone."
Then she got to her point. "But I still have to ask, do you still have the WeChat chat logs with Cecilia Quincy from that time?"
Felix Preston nodded. "I have every single one of our chat logs saved. Even though it’s been a long time, I’ve never been able to accept what happened. That’s why I could never bring myself to delete them. I was always hoping for a chance to clear my name."
"You’ve really been through a lot." Sonia raised a hand to gently stroke his face, her eyes filled with compassion. "Can you show me the chat logs?"
Felix Preston didn’t hesitate. "Of course."
He picked up his phone, unlocked it, and opened WeChat, pulling up the chat history that had lain dormant for several years.
"Here, take a look." He handed the phone to Sonia, letting her look without any reservation.
Sonia took the phone and began scrolling down from the very first message: "You are now friends. You can start chatting."
It was completely different from the three screenshots she had seen. Anyone looking at the chat history on Felix’s phone would never associate it with "harassment."
"Yeah." "Okay." "Sure." "You’re welcome..."
"Just give it to the other senior. He’ll pass it on to me..."
"Thank you, but I don’t like milk tea..."
"It’s too late tonight. If you need something, come find me in the office tomorrow..."
The chat log was fragmented. Out of the entire history, those were the only lines where Felix seemed even a little talkative. He was a man who knew his boundaries; every time Cecilia messaged him, his replies were curt.
If it was about work, they talked about work. If not, he didn’t engage in small talk.
The chat history stretched over a long period—roughly an entire semester. But in all that time, not a single one of their exchanges was more than ten messages long.
Judging from the chat logs, not only did Felix have no desire to harass Cecilia, he even seemed annoyed by her incessant chatter at times.
"Yeah, yeah, my hot pot’s ready. I’m gonna go eat. Talk to you later..."
"That’s pretty funny. I have to go, I’ve got something to do..."
"Phone’s fully charged now, gotta go..."
Whether he was doing it on purpose or not, there were several times when Felix, clearly not wanting to talk to Cecilia anymore, just threw out these lame excuses to brush her off.
Cecilia, on the other hand, was clearly unhappy about being brushed off—
"Okay, senior. You go ahead and get busy. I’ll be fine by myself..."
"Are you avoiding me, senior? Why do you always say you’re busy?"
"Senior, why didn’t you drink the milk tea I bought you? If you don’t like it, how about I get you something else next time?"
Reading Cecilia’s messages, Sonia frowned in disgust. If she didn’t know that Cecilia’s crush was Ethan Lockwood, she’d almost suspect Cecilia was the one who’d been trying to harass Felix.
"Is Cecilia still on your friends list?" Sonia asked, handing the phone back to Felix.
Felix shook his head. "I don’t know. We haven’t had any contact since that incident. I have no idea if she unfriended me."
"Oh," Sonia nodded.
Felix looked down at her and asked softly, "Sonia, why the sudden interest in this matter today?"
Sonia smiled, avoiding the question. "Felix, your birthday is coming up soon. How about I get you a big present?"
He first said, "Okay," then asked curiously, "What kind of big present?"
"I can’t tell you yet." Sonia feigned an air of mystery, raising her hand to tap the tip of Felix’s nose. "You’ll find out on your birthday."
"...Hm?" Felix narrowed his eyes, a knowing look on his face.
Around five in the afternoon, Sonia was curled up on the sofa, rushing to finish a draft, when she suddenly received a WeChat message from Hannah Sutton.
—Mr. Quincy, are you free tomorrow? I’d like to treat you to a meal.
Sonia thought for a moment about her schedule for the next day and realized she had no other plans besides working on her draft. So she promptly declined.
—Sorry, I’m totally swamped with orders right now, so I probably won’t have time to go out for the next few days. Let’s schedule the meal for sometime later.
Hannah Sutton: Alright then. Don’t overwork yourself, Mr. Quincy.
Sonia replied with "Okay," then put her phone away and went back to her draft.
But a moment later, another message came from Hannah Sutton.
—Sorry to bother you again, but when do you think you’ll have some free time, Mr. Quincy? I’d really love to treat you to a meal.
"For the foreseeable future..." Sonia frowned and thought hard before replying, "I’m stuck working on drafts." She tacked on a couple of crying emojis.
Hannah Sutton: Okay, well, good luck with your work, Mr. Quincy. Let me know when you’re finished. We definitely have to get that meal!
Sonia: Okay!
"Who are you chatting with?"
After hanging up with Evan Yates, Felix saw Sonia on the sofa, tablet in her lap, smiling at her phone. He couldn’t help but feel a little curious.
Sonia answered with a practiced, casual lie. "Just a colleague. We’re talking about getting together for a team dinner soon."
"Mm." Felix grabbed the crutch that was leaning nearby and used it to get up from the side of the hospital bed.
He had been practicing with the crutch consistently, and now he could walk quite steadily on his own.
He made his way over to Sonia, who helped him sit down on the sofa.
"Are you done with work?" he asked, looking at Sonia.
"Uh..." Sonia blinked, hesitating for a moment before stammering, "I... should be."
"’Should be’?" Felix was taken aback by her hesitation. "What do you mean, ’should be’?"
Sonia scratched her head. "Okay, forget ’should be.’ My work is done."
Felix: "Let me use the tablet, then."
"..." Sonia’s breath caught in her throat.
"What’s wrong?" Felix found her expression odd.
"...It’s nothing." Sonia took a deep breath and stiffly handed the tablet to Felix. "Here, you can use it."
Felix furrowed his brow in confusion and unlocked the tablet.
Sonia had just finished her drawing and hadn’t had time to close the application. The moment Felix opened the tablet, he saw the design draft she had just completed.
"Th-This is..." Felix stared at the design, which was both minimalist and intricate, completely stunned.
Sonia froze for a second, but then her mind raced, and she quickly came up with an excuse.
"Oh, that’s just me practicing by copying someone else’s work because I was bored. What do you think? Did I do a good job? Doesn’t it look exactly like the original?"
