Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Candlelight Dinner
"Well, putting the price aside for a moment, these instruments are definitely practical. We’re still working out the exact pricing.
If you really want to buy them, Director Ren, we’ll certainly give you our best discount for Jiaojiao’s sake."
Su Shuochi said earnestly. They were, in fact, looking to expand their business.
Ren Fangyu was so excited he practically spun on the spot. "We’re buying. We’re buying, we’re buying! We have to buy."
"If the major hospitals in Yun City could get their hands on medical equipment like this..."
"The success rate for surgeries would be so much higher. And they could be used for other procedures, too."
"I’ll call my driver right now to come pick me up and take me back to Yun City. I’ll report this to the relevant departments, and then I’ll get in touch with you."
"Okay. When the time comes, just take your people directly to the site we visited yesterday and look for Sheng Shiwu to discuss the details. He’ll be in charge of sales from now on."
Su Shuochi and his wife had already discussed this long ago. They had Sheng Shiwu switch his major to business administration precisely so he could one day take charge on his own.
"Why Xiao Wu? He’s still a college student. Does he understand these kinds of deals?" Mr. Ren asked, sounding unsure.
"Xiao Wu will be a junior when school starts again. He’s going to be in charge of the sales division.
Besides, he won’t be alone. He’s part of a sales team. He has superiors to report to and several other college students working under him.
The medical equipment we’re producing will, of course, be much cheaper than similar instruments imported from overseas.
Director Ren, you’ve seen what it can do. Even the imported equipment can’t achieve these kinds of results.
Even so, the price will still be frighteningly high. You’ll have to make that clear to the head of each hospital."
When Su Shuochi talked business, he was like a different person. He spoke with confidence and eloquence, the sharp, spirited look in his eyes growing even more intense.
His words were firm and resonant, his voice as clear as a babbling spring. He was bursting with energy from start to finish.
You couldn’t tell at all that he was a man in a wheelchair. If you didn’t look closely, you would have thought he was just sitting in an office chair!
"You said it would be three times cheaper than imported equipment. Given that, we can accept the price even if it’s still steep."
"Besides, Western medicine is heavily reliant on equipment. When you know for a fact that buying these instruments could cure certain patients, would you refuse to buy them if you had the money?"
Ren Fangyu’s voice, gentle and refined, was filled with sincerity. This deal wasn’t about family.
His strange illness was completely gone—oh, no, I should say the toxins had been purged. He was ready to get back to work and make a real impact.
"Good. You’re very decisive, Director Ren. I think we’ve both made our positions clear."
"Since you’re so keen on buying, you can go directly to them when you’re ready. Jiaojiao and I are leaving for the Imperial City early the day after tomorrow to check in."
"Alright. I need to borrow your phone. My grandfather and I will head back to Yun City tonight."
"Feel free to use the phone. Jiaojiao and I will wait for you in the yard." Su Shuochi then took Gu Jiaojiao’s hand and led her outside.
Ren Fangyu looked up, studying his cousin’s husband. ’He looks to be about twenty-five or twenty-six.’
’He always had a strong presence, but now, after hearing him speak at length, he seems absolutely brilliant.’
’A man like that is very charismatic and responsible. And his looks are a decent match for my cousin Jiaojiao.’
’What I admire most is the doting, devoted way he looks at his wife—like a complete fool in love.’
"Alright, I’ll go make a call and have someone come pick up my grandfather and me." Ren Fangyu stood and walked outside as well.
Mr. Ren was still in a daze. His eldest grandson’s strange illness over the past few years had dampened some of his usual passion.
He knew his grandson was no simple man, but someone who got things done.
But he hadn’t expected that so soon after recovering, he would accomplish something so significant for the people of Yun City. The old man’s heart swelled with pride.
Soon, the Ren family’s driver arrived at the compound gate with two bodyguards.
Mr. Ren reluctantly waved goodbye to Gu Jiaojiao. "Jiaojiao, when you get to the Imperial City, remember to call your grandpa and uncles, you hear?"
"Don’t worry, Grandpa. We’ll call you as soon as we’re settled. And if you or our uncles come to the Imperial City on business, you can look us up."
"We certainly will! Shuo Ci, you’d better treat our Jiaojiao well," Mr. Ren said, sticking his head out the car window.
"Don’t worry, Grandpa. Jiaojiao is my life. I will always treasure her."
Ren Fangyu didn’t say anything, only waving goodbye. They would be seeing a lot of each other in the future.
Su Shuochi watched them drive away, a faint smile playing on his lips. ’Reproducing these instruments is for the good of the country and its people.’
’Advanced instruments like these are already starting to appear overseas. By the time our country buys them and reverse-engineers them...’
’...who knows how many years that would take? Are we supposed to just stand by and watch critically ill patients die?!’
That was why Gu Jiaojiao and Su Shuochi had used the instruments in their "space" to build these.
Not to mention, just for the sake of contributing to the times, the couple would never ask for an exorbitant price.
Besides, the country had already bestowed upon him immense honor. Even without a material reward, he was incredibly proud to be considered a role model for the era.
By now, the sky had darkened, and a bright moon hung high in the sky. The sudden change in light...
...startled the sensitive magpies resting in the treetops into flight, their calls faintly audible for a moment.
"Jiaojiao, let’s call home and tell Mom and Dad we won’t be back for dinner. I want to stay here tonight."
Su Shuochi’s voice was a little hoarse. His mind was racing. ’My legs are all better... It’s time for our real wedding night...’
"Alright. I was going to make you some chicken soup tonight to help you recover, but now that you can stand and walk, I guess you don’t need it anymore."
Gu Jiaojiao’s thoughts were much more innocent. She assumed his voice had changed because he was emotional about being able to stand again.
"Whatever you say, darling. We’re leaving early the day after tomorrow, so let’s not tell Mom and Dad that I can walk just yet."
"I’ll leave it up to you. I agree, we should wait a while. Standing up out of the blue would probably give Mom and Dad a heart attack."
"Okay. I’ll go into the space and catch a chicken. Tonight, your husband will show off his skills and cook three dishes for you."
"Oh, really? I’m looking forward to it! Do you need a hand?"
"No need, it’s only three dishes. Why don’t you go into the space and do some research on your inner breath? I’ll call you when dinner is ready."
"Su Shuochi, you’re the best. I’m looking forward to our candlelight dinner, then~" Gu Jiaojiao stood on her tiptoes and pecked him on the lips.
She had never experienced kissing him while he was standing, because this was the first time.
But Su Shuochi wasn’t about to let her go with just a peck. He wrapped his arms around her and deepened the kiss.
He felt it too. ’Kissing while standing is a totally different experience from kissing while sitting or lying down.’
"I’ll go cook," Su Shuochi said, reluctantly releasing his wife.
He was afraid she’d get hungry, so he had to restrain himself with all his might. ’There’s always time later,’ he thought. ’After dinner...’
The couple were both looking forward to dinner.
Gu Jiaojiao was eager to taste Su Shuochi’s cooking and experience the romantic atmosphere of a candlelight dinner.
