Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Pre-ordering Medical Equipment
Hearing Mr. Ren’s teasing, even someone as thick-skinned as Su Shuochi had to let go of his wife’s hand.
He rubbed his nose and chuckled sheepishly. "You’re out, Grandpa. Is my older cousin feeling any better?"
Mr. Ren’s face was alight with joy. "The tumors on Xiao Yu’s body are all gone! He still can’t believe it. He’s in the bathroom admiring himself in the mirror, HAHA..."
Su Shuochi and his wife exchanged a look. ’So the spiritual spring water can really cure all poisons?’
His usually stoic face was filled with astonishment, and Gu Jiaojiao gasped, "Heavens! Really? All of them are gone?"
Seeing the couple’s astonished expressions, Mr. Ren said with a wide grin, "Don’t look so skeptical. This old man saw it with his own two eyes."
"TSK TSK TSK... My master is worthy of the title ’Divine Doctor.’ A single treatment was all it took to cleanse the toxins from my older cousin’s body."
"You’re already incredible, Jiaojiao, to say nothing of your master. He must be the most amazing of all."
Just then, Ren Fangyu walked out from inside, his face beaming. His gentle, refined voice was filled with boundless joy.
His white shirt was slightly stained, its cuffs rolled up to reveal his slender, pale forearms.
Mr. Ren stepped forward, grabbed his grandson’s arm, and led him over to Su Shuochi and his wife before lifting the back of Ren Fangyu’s shirt.
"Jiaojiao, both of you, take a close look. Even the scars on his back where the tumors were are gone. It’s completely back to how it was before."
Staring at Ren Fangyu’s smooth back, Gu Jiaojiao said, "They really are all gone. Let’s go to the medical room and run another scan to be sure."
Ren Fangyu nodded emphatically. "Alright. Thank you, Jiaojiao."
As they walked, he muttered under his breath, "I got a huge shock when I saw myself in the mirror after washing up."
Overjoyed, Mr. Ren patted his grandson’s shoulder. "Xiao Yu, you have to work even harder from now on, so you’ll be qualified to protect Jiaojiao."
Ren Fangyu’s handsome face grew serious as he nodded. "Yes, Grandpa. Rest assured, I will."
’She’s such an incredible cousin. I have to work hard to protect her and ensure she lives a life of peace and happiness.’
’I don’t have to take any more medicine. This is just too wonderful!’
’It wasn’t that I was afraid of taking medicine; I just really, really hated it.’
’It had been three whole years since he was poisoned. In that time, he’d taken countless medicines.’
’Chinese medicine, Western medicine, even secret concoctions from folk remedies—he’d tried them all. One folk remedy even involved drinking water boiled with earthworms...’
’But nothing ever improved. The bitterness and nausea had long ago made him detest taking any kind of medicine.’
’Sometimes he even thought, ’Since this medicine won’t cure me anyway, maybe not taking it will let me die sooner. Death would be an end to it all.’’
’But whenever that thought surfaced, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of shame.’
’Sometimes, you’re not just living for yourself. From the moment you’re born, you’re inevitably tied to family and friends.’
’He could want to die, but he couldn’t just selfishly give up on life in front of all the family members who loved him.’
’His grandfather, his parents, and his second uncle were all trying everything, desperately pulling strings and calling in favors to get in touch with any Divine Doctor they could find.’
’They were doing everything in their power to cure him and prolong his life.’
’If he just gave up on life that easily, it would be too cruel to the family that cared so much about him.’
’Over the past three years, he’d lost count of how many times he had suppressed the urge to end his own life.’
’No one knew his despair and vulnerability. Through all those dark nights when he wanted to end it all himself, he had forced himself to live on through sheer willpower.’
’His new wife and his family were his salvation and his light.’
’His poor wife. They hadn’t even shared a bed since their wedding day. And she was his childhood sweetheart.’
’He didn’t dare face the woman he loved with a body covered in tumors. He was afraid she’d be disgusted by him, that she’d pull away from him.’
’That was why he always used the excuse of feeling unwell to keep his distance, refusing to even sleep in the same room as her.’
’For three years, his family had been walking on eggshells around him because of his strange illness.’
’They were afraid to mention his strange illness or his physical condition in front of him.’
’They carefully guarded his pride, worried he couldn’t withstand even the slightest hurtful remark.’
’They only ever said kind things to him, but what they didn’t know was that he wasn’t afraid of death.’
’What he feared was his family treating him like a fragile porcelain doll.’
’He hadn’t done anything to deserve this, yet he had become a monster—a stinking, tumor-covered monster!’
’Growing up, he had always been an exemplary student, what everyone would call a "good kid." He was the pride and joy of his parents.’
’So the pain of falling from that pedestal three years ago, of being reduced to a monster... he wasn’t a god; naturally, he felt it deeply.’
’The agony was immense. Few could have endured such torment, yet he had survived it for three whole years.’
’Just when he felt he couldn’t hold on any longer, he saw his younger cousin, the one he’d doted on since they were kids.’
’Her medical skills were exquisite, and her master... his skills were like those of an Immortal who had descended to the mortal world.’
’And just look at his cousin-in-law in the wheelchair—that completely smitten gaze was glued to Jiaojiao.’
’Everyone is drawn to the strong. He was no exception.’
Walking back into the medical room, Ren Fangyu felt like a new man. He curiously pointed to several pieces of medical equipment he’d never seen before and asked,
"Su Shuochi, did you guys actually spend a fortune to privately import such advanced medical instruments from overseas?"
"Oh, these weren’t bought. Shu Ci developed them himself, specifically to get clearer scans of his legs."
Gu Jiaojiao continued with a perfectly straight face, "Every trip to the hospital for a scan added a huge amount to the medical bills.
So, to cut down on costs, Shu Ci devoted himself to developing this 4D color ultrasound machine. It saves a ton of money."
Mr. Ren and Ren Fangyu were speechless.
’They wanted to save money too, but they couldn’t just build something so high-tech!’
"Jiaojiao, you’re sure this wasn’t imported? You developed this product yourselves?" Ren Fangyu was astounded.
This time, it wasn’t just Ren Fangyu who was surprised; Mr. Ren was thoroughly astonished as well. The grandfather and grandson circled the machine, looking like they wanted to take it apart right then and there to see how it worked.
"Mhm." Su Shuochi, however, was perfectly calm.
’He hadn’t been the one to develop it, but he could already replicate its design.’
"Su Shuochi, would you be able to produce more of these machines?"
"Is Director Ren asking on behalf of the major hospitals in Yun City? If I can make one, I can certainly mass-produce them. And I can guarantee their quality."
"What about the price? Is it expensive?"
"Let’s put it this way... one of our machines would cost less than a third of what an imported one does."
"That cheap? We’re definitely buying. I’ll take all the machines you have here!" Ren Fangyu declared magnanimously.
The last time they’d looked at an imported piece of equipment, the price had been so high it was sickening.
Besides, foreign medical equipment had to be paid for with foreign currency, which was why Ren Fangyu was so stunned.
He wished he could close the deal and buy all of these machines on the spot.
