Chapter 311: Chapter 311: A Bewildered Emotion
Although Su Shuochi had never cooked before, after he married, he would often sit in his wheelchair at the kitchen door and watch his wife teach his mother to cook.
He had an excellent memory, so he remembered how to prepare all of his wife’s favorite dishes.
It was just that it had been too inconvenient to try cooking them from his wheelchair, even though he knew which ones she liked.
The last time Gao Xiangming visited, he’d brought dozens of pounds of tea seed oil from his hometown, and they had stored a jug of it in their space.
At this moment, Gu Jiaojiao was cultivating in the space, so Su Shuochi could enter and exit as easily as walking from the kitchen to the living room.
He washed the butchered chicken, placed the chicken blood, giblets, and feet in a bowl, then took some sweet potato vermicelli from the cabinet and set it in water to soak.
He was preparing to make a chicken giblet and vermicelli soup, one of Gu Jiaojiao’s absolute favorite dishes.
Next, he chopped the chicken into small pieces. Since the chickens were raised in the space, they didn’t need to be blanched. He simply marinated the pieces in soy sauce for a while before stir-frying them over high heat.
Mr. Su, Su’s mother, and the Gu Family had once lived in this courtyard for over a month, and they had planted some ginger, scallions, and greens.
Su Shuochi dug up a piece of ginger, picked a few cloves of garlic, and pulled up two scallions. He planned to make chicken stir-fried in tea seed oil.
He would also stir-fry a vegetable dish. Three dishes would be about right for the two of them. After all, this was his first time truly cooking.
In theory, it was no problem, but his practical skills were still unrefined. That’s why he didn’t plan on making too many different dishes.
Now that he could move freely, he could cook for her every day. As long as his wife needed him to, he was willing to learn anything.
Su Shuochi prepped all the ingredients, washed the wok, and heated the oil, stir-frying the ginger and garlic until fragrant before tossing in the chicken to sear over high heat.
He then added some spiritual spring water, covered the wok, and let it braise over a high flame. He was following the process his wife had taught him, with a few of his own creative touches...
Gu Jiaojiao circulated her energy for five full cycles in the space, and an inner breath had begun to flow throughout her body.
She felt a little hungry and figured her man was probably about done with dinner, so she emerged from the space.
As she reached the kitchen doorway, a delightful aroma wafted to her—the scent of chicken stir-fried in tea seed oil.
It smelled even more fragrant than her own cooking, and she felt her mouth begin to water.
’This man is a true genius. Not only can he replicate medical equipment, and do a convincing job of it, but even his cooking smells better than mine.’
Before Gu Jiaojiao could even gasp, she saw him—standing shirtless at the stove, cooking.
She didn’t know that Su Shuochi had taken off his shirt simply because he didn’t have an apron and couldn’t bear to stain his pristine white button-down.
His face was already covered in beads of sweat, and more trickled down his arms.
Sweat traced a path down his chest, over his abdomen, and disappeared into the waistband of his pants. It was an incredibly sexy sight.
Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but swallow.
’Su Shuochi never stopped working out, even when he was in his wheelchair. With that kind of self-discipline, if he didn’t have muscles, who did?’
’If he didn’t have a great physique, who deserved to?’
Perhaps Gu Jiaojiao’s gaze was too direct, too fiery, because Su Shuochi, immersed in his cooking, felt it.
He looked up and saw his wife staring intently at him. He set down the spatula and used the towel on his shoulder to wipe away his sweat.
He turned his head and said, "Why did you come in here? It’s hot. Go wait in the living room. Dinner will be ready soon."
"I was getting a little hungry, so I came out to see." Gu Jiaojiao’s gaze kept drifting to his abdomen.
Unwilling to look away, she lingered in the doorway and found something to say. "I’m not disturbing you, am I? Just ignore me and keep cooking."
Su Shuochi noticed where her eyes kept wandering, and the hand wiping his sweat froze.
’She seems to be particularly interested in my pecs and abs, doesn’t she?’
’The very first day she came here, her little hands were all over my chest and abs, and she wouldn’t let go, muttering something under her breath...’
As the thought crossed his mind, Su Shuochi subconsciously grabbed his white shirt and quickly put it on.
"It’s too hot in the kitchen. Go sit in the living room. I’ll bring you a bowl of the vermicelli soup to have first." Su Shuochi’s voice was calm, but his ears had turned red.
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t notice his red ears; she just saw that he had already put his shirt back on.
With his pecs and abs now hidden, she clicked her tongue in disappointment. She hadn’t had her fill yet.
Sighing inwardly with regret, Gu Jiaojiao nodded and said, "Okay, I’ll go wait for you in the living room then."
"Mhm." Su Shuochi saw her disappointment and felt a surge of pride.
’Don’t worry, darling,’ he thought. ’After dinner, you can look and touch as much as you want...’
But he had always been reserved, and it was nearly impossible for anyone to read his expression.
Gu Jiaojiao had just sat down when Su Shuochi came out holding a bowl of the chicken stir-fried in tea seed oil.
"Honey, try my cooking. I’ll go get the vegetables."
Su Shuochi ladled a bowl of the vermicelli soup and handed it to Gu Jiaojiao, then moved the plate of stir-fried chicken in front of her.
After returning to the kitchen to bring out the vegetable dish, he turned off the light and lit the red candles.
In the warm candlelight, the couple enjoyed a beautiful and romantic dinner.
"Wow, this is delicious! It smelled amazing, but I didn’t expect it to taste even better than Mom’s cooking."
After swallowing a bite of chicken, Gu Jiaojiao praised him sincerely. When she looked up, she met his smiling face.
Even his thick eyebrows seemed to ripple gently, holding a permanent smile, curved like a bright crescent moon in the night sky.
The atmosphere was utterly romantic. The couple sat at the table, placing food on each other’s plates and chatting softly.
With the delicious food and the handsome view, Gu Jiaojiao ate until she was stuffed before she even knew it. After dinner, they went for a walk in the courtyard.
The stars in the sky sparkled like diamonds, and the crescent moon hung in the night sky, pure and beautiful.
"Jiaojiao, I’m going to soak in the hot spring for a bit. You can go after I change the water."
Su Shuochi had actually wanted to suggest they go in together, but thinking about what he had planned for later, he decided against it.
"Okay." Gu Jiaojiao didn’t think much of it. After all, it was already late.
Su Shuochi exited the space and went directly into their room. This was the newlywed room they had decorated together, and tonight was their first time staying in it.
He knew his wife loved looking at his pecs and abs, so he took off his shirt and lay down on the bed.
An excited heart, trembling hands, a flustered mind, a restless body he couldn’t seem to control.
Hearing footsteps, Su Shuochi immediately closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep.
After Gu Jiaojiao got into bed and saw that her man was already asleep, she propped her chin on her hand and watched him quietly.
The bright moon shone outside, its light mingling with the stars to brightly illuminate the room. It cast the peerlessly handsome face of the man on the bed into sharp relief.
His long eyelashes looked like little fans when his eyes were closed. It was a drool-worthy portrait of a sleeping beauty.
Gu Jiaojiao swallowed and, feeling mischievous, leaned in to kiss Su Shuochi.
But just as her lips drew near, his eyes snapped open.
His gaze was bright, not the least bit groggy from sleep, which gave Gu Jiaojiao a huge fright.
"What, you want to eat me up so bad you’re drooling?" His stubble prickled her cheek.
