Chapter 313: Chapter 214: Whereabouts (Part 2)

Paige Summers had no choice but to leave Sweetie behind and head to Jovitas by herself.

She was quite famous among the personnel there.

Everyone knew she was the one cherished by the next successor, a fact Marcus Monroe never hid. So even though they rarely saw her, the moment Paige Summers gave her name, their attitude became exceedingly warm.

Soon, a dedicated staff member came to greet her.

This man, Hugh Whitlock, was none other than the head of the intelligence team.

He was now considered the third-in-command at Jovitas.

After their leader, Black S, and the next successor, Marcus Monroe, he was next in line.

Black S was in poor health and only relayed instructions, rarely making public appearances. The important task of receiving Paige Summers naturally fell to him.

Besides, he knew exactly why she had come.

After all, he was the one who knew the most about Marcus Monroe’s whereabouts and the information she needed.

However, he still sought instructions from their leader, Black S, regarding what could and could not be disclosed.

After the call, he led Paige Summers directly to Marcus Monroe’s office with a smile on his face, showing he was willing to tell her everything.

Paige Summers didn’t stand on ceremony and got straight to the point. "Marcus Monroe left the city to find Levi Young and the others?"

"Yes. According to our intelligence, Erin Quinn and Levi Young were most likely kidnapped by Sheldon Reid. So after hearing news of his whereabouts, Red S decided to go rescue them himself."

"It’s really Sheldon Reid? What happened? Can you tell me the details?"

"Of course!"

Hugh Whitlock began by explaining the coup within Central City’s Power Corps. He went on to say that both Sheldon Reid and Nora Lowell had disappeared, and it was highly likely that Sheldon Reid had encountered Erin Quinn and Levi Young on his way back to Central City and kidnapped them. He held nothing back, relaying every detail to Paige Summers.

Paige Summers sighed to herself. ’What rotten luck. Of all the people to run into, it had to be Sheldon Reid! And those two troublemakers... they knew how chaotic it was over there, so why did they have to get involved! Still, since Marcus Monroe rushed over, it should be fine... right?’ "Has any news come back since he left?"

Hugh Whitlock nodded. "Three days ago, a message came back saying he had found Sheldon Reid and his group and was preparing to make a move."

’Three days ago...’ Paige Summers’s brow furrowed subtly. ’If he was preparing to act then, three days should have been enough time. So what happened? Why hasn’t there been any more news?’

Hugh Whitlock said, "Don’t worry. Red S is incredibly powerful, and the people who went with him are some of the best in Jovitas. Besides, Sheldon Reid is poisoned. They’ll be fine."

Paige Summers smiled. "Could you draw a simple map of their route for me?"

Hugh Whitlock was startled. "You’re planning to go yourself?"

"If there’s still no word from him." ’It must mean he’s in danger!’

"Well..." Hugh Whitlock felt a headache coming on. ’Should I give her the map or not? It’s not that I’m worried about her going, but if something happens to her on the way... will I still be alive when Red S gets back?!’ He wanted to refuse, but the woman before him was notoriously hard to fool—he had long since heard all about her exploits.

Seeing his hesitation, Paige Summers didn’t press him. Instead, she changed the subject for the moment. "If it’s convenient, could you tell me about the current situation in Central City and Norgate?"

That, of course, was no problem.

Hugh Whitlock breathed a sigh of relief and began to speak at length.

Regarding Norgate, although both Sheldon Reid and Nora Lowell had disappeared, the plan to attack the city hadn’t stopped. Commander Walsh of The Power Corps’ First Division was now presiding over the operation.

However, the battle wouldn’t be over so easily.

Since Gryphon Lowell dared to declare independence, he must have had an ace up his sleeve.

Ever since he came to power, Norgate had been particularly keen on recruiting large numbers of talented individuals.

Mainly Superpower Users and researchers.

Norgate’s treatment of powerful Superpower Users was excellent, no worse than Central City’s. They could even enjoy many privileges not available in Central City.

Under these circumstances, many Superpower Users were quite tempted.

Central City was too crowded, making it difficult to stand out. In comparison, while Norgate was small, it had its own advantages.

As the old saying goes, "Better to be the head of a chicken than the tail of a phoenix."

Many people thought this way.

Therefore, on the surface, Norgate had appeared to be a picture of prosperity and growth for the past few years.

Now, facing Central City’s attack, they dispatched their own Power Corps to fight without the slightest hesitation.

The battle between the two sides was extremely fierce!

Hearing this, Paige Summers couldn’t help but ask, "Are you saying they’ve been fighting this whole time with no clear winner?"

Hugh Whitlock hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "It seems so. But because of the recent heavy rain, communications have been temporarily cut off. Our people haven’t sent any messages back, so the current situation is unclear."

’No news again.’

A strange thought crossed Paige Summers’s mind.

’Norgate and Marcus Monroe have both gone silent. Could there be a connection?’

’Is it really just because of the heavy rain?’

But Hugh Whitlock said, "This has happened before. As you know, even though we have communication stations set up now, the signal isn’t great. It’s intermittent at best. Plus, with the heavy rain—which I hear was astonishingly fierce—a delay of a few days is quite normal."

Paige Summers looked at him noncommittally, then changed the subject again. "What about Central City? The news of Sheldon Reid’s disappearance must have gotten back by now. Have The Government or the military had any other ideas or taken any action?"

A sly smile appeared on Hugh Whitlock’s face. "Of course. And even if they didn’t, someone would make sure they did."

Paige Summers understood instantly.

’Marcus Monroe would never let such a good opportunity to deal with Sheldon Reid slip by.’

’He’s probably already laid a trap. If Sheldon Reid disappears for good, then so be it. But if he comes back, he probably won’t get off easy.’

Seeing that Hugh Whitlock didn’t elaborate, she didn’t ask any further.

’This probably touches on one of Jovitas’s deeper secrets,’ she thought. ’I can’t be so tactless.’

In any case, she had learned everything she needed to know.

The only thing missing was the map.

With this in mind, she stood up and pointed to the pen and paper on Marcus Monroe’s desk. "I have nothing else I need to know. Please, Mr. Whitlock, draw me a map of the direction Marcus Monroe went. I should be heading back now."
