Chapter 312: Chapter 214: Whereabouts
Because of what happened to Erin Quinn and Levi Young, Paige Summers didn’t wait for the next day. She decided to depart that very night.
Before leaving, she made a point to leave many things for Claire Chapman.
First was food. In addition to the jerky and other supplies she had brought from Central City, she also left the crops grown in her space. The crops in The Evo-Space were flourishing, and Paige had already transferred countless batches to The Stillspace, which was now quite full.
This time, she left more than half of them behind.
In addition, the huge assortment of daily necessities she had collected over time was piled up like a small mountain.
Claire Chapman had some Bloodfall members set up two small warehouses. One was a secret warehouse dedicated to storing the food from The Evo-Space, while the other was a public one for regular food and daily necessities.
Of course, the most important items of all were the crop seeds, which he would be sure to keep on his person.
At The Foundry, as long as they cleared out all the Zombies, it wouldn’t take too long to get the place in order.
After all, the Superpower Users on the team could do more than just fight. They could clear away rubble to build new houses, plant protective mutated flora around the base’s perimeter, and even create many daily necessities themselves, like beds, tables, chairs, bowls, and chopsticks.
And while they worked on all that, they could also begin trial plantings.
Paige knew she wouldn’t be able to return very quickly. Not wanting to cause any delays, she decided to leave some of the seeds with Claire Chapman for him to manage as he saw fit.
On the team, a few of the members with Mason Hayes were in their late thirties. They reportedly came from rural families before the apocalypse and all had farming experience. With them there, at least getting the seeds planted wouldn’t be a problem.
The initial costs of building the base were bound to be high.
After the recent cleanup operation, even Paige was low on Crystal Cores, to say nothing of the others.
Bloodfall needed a source of income.
Mass-producing weapons would have to wait for Paige’s return. It was a long-term project that involved setting up equipment, reconfiguring the workshop, training workers to smelt, and gathering sufficient materials.
Farming, on the other hand, was a different story.
If those seeds could actually grow in the soil outside, they could reap a huge harvest in just a few months, even if it was only a one-time success.
After all, grain like that was an absolute luxury these days!
Even a harvest of just a couple hundred pounds could be sold for a substantial number of Crystal Cores.
Claire Chapman and Paige Summers had discussed the matter and made their decision: they would give it a try first and see what happened.
By the time they finished arranging everything, night had already fallen.
Traveling at night was not ideal, but Paige was too impatient to wait.
Fortunately, Sweetie had night vision, a good sense of direction, and was well-behaved. As long as it was with Paige, it seemed perfectly capable. Although it was very unhappy about the extra passenger, Sean Raines, it eventually agreed after some coaxing. As for the corpse bag, it was surprisingly light, its weight completely negligible.
After a brief exchange with the bird, Paige decided they would leave at once.
The journey was relatively peaceful. They sometimes encountered other mutated birds, but these were either scared off by Sweetie or swiftly shot down by Paige.
With Sweetie, an aerial hunt would have actually been quite fun.
But Paige was in no mood for it.
For the past few days, she had been turning the matter of Levi Young and Erin Quinn’s disappearance over and over in her mind.
But it was hard to come up with any leads.
’If they had disappeared Outside Norgate, then it might have been Sheldon Reid’s doing.’
’But speaking of Sheldon Reid, that man should have made his move by now... I wonder if he succeeded. If he did, then Sheldon Reid and Nora Lowell should no longer be a threat.’
’But besides those two, she couldn’t think of any other suspects off the top of her head.’
’After thinking it through, the only other possibility was that they ran into someone with ill intent on the road.’
She was deeply worried.
Sweetie seemed to sense her anxiety and flew with all its might. Despite carrying the weight of two people on its back, it still reached Central City on the seventh day.
The moment it landed, the poor bird was utterly exhausted and ready to collapse—a far cry from its last visit, when it had proudly gone to see Marcus Monroe.
Paige had to feed it several Crystal Cores in a row before it started to recover.
The two humans and one bird entered the city and hastily parted ways.
Sean Raines headed back to the Taoist Association, while Paige went to see Marcus Monroe.
’Marcus Monroe must know about this, and he wouldn’t just sit idly by. His information network is fast; perhaps he’s already discovered something.’
When she returned to the residence she hadn’t visited in so long, Paige didn’t find Marcus Monroe. Only a few people were there, standing guard.
They only knew that Marcus Monroe had left the city to rescue Levi Young, but they couldn’t provide any specific details.
