Chapter 219: Chapter 219 We’re screwed!
Some soldiers formed long lines to pass the heavy grain sacks from one person to another, while others carried them directly toward the waiting trucks parked outside.
Meanwhile...Ivy and Darren remained outside, standing quietly in one corner while observing their surroundings.
Anya was among those loading the sack of grains into the truck. She specifically chose the position closer to the truck but her brother was far away hence her gaze kept drifting toward him.
"Doesn’t your brother eat?" A masculine voice rang out, followed by a loud burst of mocking laughter as the man passed another heavy sack of grain to Anya.
The young girl’s expression immediately darkened.
"I know you two are orphans," the man continued with a smirk, "but Dawn Base feeds both of you, doesn’t it?" His grin widened maliciously.
"Or is your brother suffering from another terminal illness?" He deliberately paused before adding, "You know... the same one that killed your mother."
Anya’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot with fury.
"How dare you say something like that?!" she snapped, her voice trembling with rage. She glared at him fiercely. "Don’t ever speak about her with that filthy mouth of yours again!"
The man simply scoffed. "And what if I do?" He stepped a little closer, clearly trying to provoke her. "What are you going to do? Beat me?"
His mocking smile only grew wider as he moved even closer to Anya.
"You think you’re all that now just because you’ve awakened some abilities?"
Just as Anya was about to fire back another reply...her pupils suddenly contracted as her gaze slowly lifted toward the warehouse ceiling.
High above them...something huge was clinging silently to the roof and she doesn’t need to be told that it was a monster.
Its body was so massive that it blended perfectly with the dark ceiling, making it almost impossible to notice unless someone looked carefully. Its skin resembled rough stone, and its long, rocky fingers were tightly embedded into the concrete as it remained perfectly still.
Anya felt every hair on her body stand on end, a cold chill raced down her spine.
Her throat went dry as she instinctively swallowed.
"Oh, that’s what I thought," the man continued arrogantly, completely oblivious to the danger above him. "You should always keep quiet like this then we’ll get al...."
Before he could finish speaking...
A gigantic rocky hand suddenly shot down from the ceiling.
Whoosh!
The enormous hand wrapped around the man’s entire body before anyone could react.
"W...What?!"
The man screamed in terror as he was violently yanked upward toward the roof.
"Help me!!"
The survivors froze in horror and before anyone could even raise their weapons...his agonizing screams abruptly stopped.
Silence filled the air then followed by a horrifying crunching sound echoing from above and soon blood began dripping from the ceiling.
The giant monster slowly climbed down from the rooftop while dragging what remained of the man as the head was already gone.
Only his mangled body remained, blood pouring endlessly from his neck as the monster casually dragged the corpse behind it.
The sight alone was enough to make several soldiers’ faces turn deathly pale.
"Oh, fuck!!"
Everyone standing outside continue shooting their guns at the monsters who walked casually into the warehouse, it’s head crushing the door, roof since it was too huge while the survivors inside the warehouse also couldn’t stop shooting.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The deafening sounds of gunfire echoed throughout the enormous warehouse yet
despite the endless barrage...the creature refused to fall.
"This motherfucker is made of rocks!" one of the soldiers shouted in disbelief while frantically reloading his rifle.
"My bullets aren’t doing a damn thing!"
"Mine neither!" another soldier yelled.
Even Erick couldn’t hide the panic creeping into his expression.
"My bullets can usually blow a monster’s head clean off," he muttered through gritted teeth. "But they’re barely leaving scratches on this thing."
The ability users immediately stepped forward.
Without wasting another second, flames erupted into the air while sharp blades of wind slashed toward the monster.
Stone spikes burst from the ground, lightning crackled violently through the warehouse as one ability after another struck the gigantic creature with tremendous force.
Smoke and dust quickly filled the air from the relentless attacks however, when the smoke finally began to clear...the enormous monster was still standing.
Not even a single step had been forced backward. It stood there calmly, almost as though it were mocking every single one of them.
Its glowing eyes slowly swept across the survivors as if it had intentionally allowed them to finish showcasing all of their attacks...
Before finally deciding it was its turn.
"We’re screwed!!"
