Chapter 215: Chapter 215 She’s already asleep.

Anya stared at the vehicle, her tears still falling.

She knew Caleb’s weapon better than anyone else. It was only an ordinary rifle.

There was absolutely no way it could have instantly blown apart the heads of three monsters with only three shots.

That kind of firepower belonged to only a handful of people and one of them was Ivy.

A complicated expression flashed across Anya’s face before she quietly wiped away her tears.

"Come on," Caleb said, helping her back onto her feet. "We still have monsters to deal with."

Anya nodded firmly.

The siblings immediately returned to the battlefield.

Meanwhile...Erick arrived carrying two large kegs of gasoline.

Without wasting a second, he ordered several soldiers to pour the fuel around the outer perimeter while others provided covering fire.

The moment the circle was complete....

Whoosh!

The gasoline ignited instantly.

Fire erupted around the survivors, cutting off many of the monsters’ paths and forcing them into predictable directions.

"Keep shooting!" Erick commanded egije gunfire erupted nonstop.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Others fought with swords, while several archers continuously fired flaming arrows into the advancing horde and little by little...the monsters’ numbers continued to decrease.

After an exhausting battle that seemed to last forever, the final monster finally collapsed onto the blood-soaked ground while silence gradually returned.

The only thing lingering in the air now was the suffocating stench of rotten flesh and monster blood.

Caleb walked over to where Anya was resting on a chair, exhausted from overusing her ability.

He knelt beside her before smiling warmly.

"You’ve become much stronger than your big brother now, Sister," he said proudly. "Your ability is seriously incredible."

Anya couldn’t help but smile faintly despite her exhaustion. "Thank you, Caleb," she replied gently before reaching out and affectionately ruffling his soft curly hair.

Caleb chuckled sheepishly.

The monster tide had claimed five lives as four survivors who had been bitten during the battle chose mutual destruction, sacrificing themselves to eliminate nearby monsters before the infection could completely take over.

The fifth survivor wasn’t willing to accept his fate.

"Please..." the injured man begged desperately, crawling across the ground. "Please spare me."

Everyone looked toward him.

"I’m sure there’s some kind of medicine somewhere," he continued frantically. "Only a tiny bit of monster blood entered my wound. I’m sure... I’m sure I can still be saved."

As he spoke, his fingernails rapidly elongated into sharp black claws, his bloodshot pupils gradually lost their humanity while his skin also began darkening.

"Spare you?" Antelope asked coldly. His expression completely emotionless. "We’re not idiots."

Bang!

Just like that, he pulled the trigger while the explosive round struck the infected survivor directly in the head.

The man’s head exploded instantly, his lifeless body collapsing onto the ground.

Just like Ivy’s explosive firearm, Antelope’s weapon and those carried by several of his subordinates possessed the same terrifying destructive power.

The members of the dead survivor’s base immediately became furious.

"You shouldn’t have shot him yet!"

"There had to be another way!"

"You didn’t even give him a chance!"

"A chance?" Antelope repeated before letting out a mocking laugh afterwhich he shot the other three survivors in their heads.

He then slowly facepalmed himself as he turned to the remaining survivors. "Are these really the people I’m supposed to be going to war with?" he muttered in disappointment. "How unfortunate."

He lowered his hand and looked at everyone with cold eyes.

"There is no cure for monster infection, you idiots.Once you’re infected, there are only two possible outcomes and that is you die before the infection fully takes over or you become a monster."

No one could find the words to argue anymore.

After a brief pause, Antelope spoke again.

"Each base that lost one or more members during this operation will receive additional resources as compensation once everything is over."

Without waiting to hear another complaint, he turned around and walked away.

The leaders of the affected bases lowered their heads in grief as they stared silently at the bodies of their fallen comrades.

After grieving, everyone began cleaning up the battlefield.

Some survivors carefully carried the corpses of their companions toward a nearby patch of forest, where they dug graves and buried them with as much dignity as the situation allowed.

Others focused on washing away monster blood that covered the ground and vehicles, hoping to get rid of the unbearable stench of decay hanging in the air.

After personally confirming that everyone had settled down and that all the fallen had been properly taken care of, Erick quietly made his way toward the truck where Ivy and Darren had taken shelter.

Standing outside the vehicle, he gently looked through the window and his gaze landed on Ivy.

She had fallen asleep against the seat, looking completely peaceful despite everything that had just happened.

"...She’s already asleep," Erick murmured under his breath before letting out a long, helpless sigh.

His eyes then shifted toward Darren.

The young man was also fast asleep, his head tilted awkwardly against the window, completely unaware of everything happening outside.

Erick couldn’t help sighing once more.

"...Unbelievable."

Shaking his head with a faint smile of resignation, he quietly turned around and walked away.
