Chapter 214: Chapter 214 We’ll just watch.
Despite everything, Ivy and Darren still managed to dive into one of the trucks, slamming the door shut behind them just as a massive monster that had been targeting them lunged at the vehicle.
Bang!
Its huge body crashed against the side of the truck, making the entire vehicle shake violently.
"Fuck... that was close!" Darren muttered under his breath, his face drained of color as fear filled his eyes.
Meanwhile, the other members of the different Base had already been awakened. It wasn’t as though anyone had been sleeping deeply. The moment Ivy and Darren shouted the word "Danger!", everyone had instinctively snapped awake and rushed into action.
The monster that had targeted Ivy and Darren refused to give up. It repeatedly hurled itself against the truck with frightening force, each impact making the metal groan loudly. Its jaws opened wide, strings of poisonous saliva dripping from its fangs and splattering across the windows as it snarled viciously.
The truck rocked from side to side with every collision.
"Why the fuck did we even get into the truck?" Darren whispered under his breath, his voice filled with confusion as he watched the creature preparing to flip the entire vehicle over. "I still don’t understand."
Just as the monster raised both massive arms to overturn the truck....
Bang!
A deafening gunshot echoed across the battlefield as one of Erick’s guards had fired first, the bullet piercing straight through the monster’s skull.
The attack staggered the creature, but before it could recover...Erick pulled the trigger on his heavy explosive weapon.
The projectile struck the monster squarely in the head before detonating instantly.
The monster’s head exploded into countless bloody chunks, rotten flesh and blackened blood splattering across the ground as its body collapsed.
"I should get down and help," Darren said immediately, reaching for the truck’s door handle.
However, before his fingers could even touch the lock, Ivy calmly reached over and placed a hand on his wrist, stopping him.
"Huh?" Darren frowned, turning toward her in confusion. "What’s wrong?"
"We’re staying here," Ivy replied calmly, her tone leaving no room for argument. "We’ll just watch."
As she spoke, she casually pulled a packet of cookies from her pocket before opening a bottle of juice. Without the slightest hint of panic, she began eating and drinking as though she were watching an ordinary show instead of a life-and-death battle.
Darren stared at her in complete disbelief.
"Huh?" he exclaimed. "Are you serious right now?"
He looked back toward the battlefield where countless monsters continued charging at the people.
"There are too many monsters out there!" he protested anxiously. "How can we just sit here while everyone else is risking their lives fighting?"
"Just sit and watch," Ivy repeated, her voice firm with only the slightest trace of annoyance. "And if watching is too much work..." She took another bite of her cookie before shrugging indifferently. "...then go back to sleep."
Fuck... What is she planning this time? Darren wondered inwardly, swallowing hard.
Although every instinct told him to rush outside, he ultimately leaned back in his seat without another word.
He had learned one thing after spending time with Ivy and that is whenever she did something that made absolutely no sense.....there was almost always a reason behind it so this time, he chose to trust her again.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield...
Anya fought desperately against wave after wave of monsters, squeezing every last drop of strength from her exhausted body.
Her breathing had become ragged, sweat soaked her clothes, and her ability had long since reached its limit.
Still...she refused to stop fighting.
"Just fucking die already, you motherfuckers!" Anya cursed through gritted teeth as she swung her weapon at the monster before her.
The creature barely flinched.
Instead, it suddenly disappeared from her sight making Anya’s eyes widened and before sfe could even process everything....a gigantic fist slammed directly into her chest.
The terrifying impact launched her several meters through the air before she crashed heavily onto the ground.
"Cough...!"
Anya spat out a mouthful of blood, her vision blurring as excruciating pain spread throughout her body. She gritted her teeth and desperately tried to push herself back onto her feet but her trembling arms refused to support her weight.
"Damn it..." she muttered weakly.
Before she could recover, the monster that had struck her slowly approached with two more monsters beside it.
Their horrifying mouths split open while long strands of poisonous saliva dripped from their razor-sharp teeth as they prepared to tear her apart.
I think this is the end. Anya thought as sfe slowly closed her eyes, accepting what she believed would be her inevitable death.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three deafening gunshots rang out almost at the exact same moment.
The monsters’ heads exploded one after another while Anya opened her eyes immediately.
Rotten flesh, shattered bone, and dark blood burst into the air before the monsters lifeless bodies collapsed heavily onto the ground, landing only inches away from Anya.
Silence briefly swept across the battlefield.
Anya’s eyes remained fixed on the three lifeless monsters lying before her. They were wide with horror, disbelief, and lingering fear as tears streamed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
She had truly believed she was about to die.
"Anya!"
A young man with curly brown hair came sprinting toward her, his expression filled with panic.
"Are you okay, Sister?" he asked breathlessly as he dropped to one knee beside her.
The young man was Caleb...Anya’s younger brother.
Instead of answering him, Anya suddenly threw herself into his embrace, wrapping both arms tightly around him as she broke into uncontrollable sobs.
"I... I thought I was dead..." she whispered between cries.
Caleb gently patted her back, allowing her to cry as much as she needed.
"It’s okay," he comforted softly. "You’re safe now. I’m here."
However, while clinging to her brother, Anya’s gaze instinctively wandered toward one of the nearby trucks.
At that exact moment...the truck door quietly closed.
Ivy...?
