Chapter 213: Chapter 213 There’s Danger!
Without offering Ivy another glance, he turned back toward Erick and the other base leaders.
"Anyway..." His expression became serious as he reached into one of the document folders brought by his men. "There is a form every participating base will be required to complete."
He held one of the papers up for everyone to see.
"This document is for resource allocation after the mission." His voice remained calm yet authoritative. "Once this operation is complete, all resources gathered during the mission will be distributed according to each base’s overall contribution."
His gaze swept over every leader present.
"Every base will receive only what their contribution deserves." He then paused briefly."Does anyone object?"
"Of course not!"
"We agree!"
"That’s only fair."
"Let’s do it."
The smaller base leaders immediately voiced their agreement.
No one dared challenge Antelope’s proposal anyways.
Satisfied by their responses, Antelope gestured toward his subordinates, who began distributing the forms.
Each base leader quickly filled in the required information before returning the documents.
Once everyone had finished, Erick collected the remaining form and walked toward Ivy who was still happily enjoying another bite of roasted corn before washing it down with sweet coconut.
"Captain Ivy," Erick called with a smile as he sat beside her.
He handed her the final form. "Don’t worry. Even if you don’t contribute much physically during this mission, you’ll still receive your share of the resources."
Seeing Ivy raise an eyebrow, he hurriedly explained.
"I only need you to remain nearby." He smiled sheepishly. "Your danger perception ability has saved both me and my people countless times already. My mind can only truly be at ease if you’re around to warn us whenever something unexpected happens."
His tone became more sincere.
"Everyone else will receive resources according to their contributions." He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "But just like I promised before...I’ll still give you a portion of my own reward afterward."
Ivy simply stared at him for a moment before letting out a long, helpless sigh.
You really are an idiot...
You should be thinking about obtaining as many resources for your own base as possible.
To hell with fairness.
Everyone should be allowed to fight for themselves and keep whatever resources they personally obtain.
Instead, all the resources gathered during the mission have to be handed over first before being redistributed according to whatever contribution score one base leader decides? That’s honestly ridiculous.
She inwardly shook her head.
Still...
It looks like you’ve already made up your mind to follow Antelope’s rules. There’s nothing I can say now that would change your decision.
Without another word, Ivy accepted the form and quickly signed her name before handing it back to Erick.
Only after Erick left did she slowly rise to her feet.
"I’ll see you later, Anya," Ivy said, dusting her hands clean. "I want to rest inside the truck for a while."
"Okay, Captain Ivy," Anya replied happily, her mouth still full of roasted corn.
She gave Ivy an enthusiastic wave before taking another large bite.
Just then, Darren walked over.
"Is everything alright?" he asked, concern evident in his voice as he studied Ivy’s face.
"It’s fine," Ivy replied calmly as she stretched her shoulders. "Let’s get some rest."
Darren nodded immediately.
Truthfully, he was already exhausted hence he quietly followed Ivy toward their truck.
*****
Night arrived before anyone realized it.
A full moon hung high above the earth, surrounded by countless stars that shine brightly in the dark sky.
The cool evening breeze drifted gently through the campsite while occasional chirps from night birds echoed through the forest.
Far away, the faint growls of wandering monsters occasionally drifted through the darkness before fading once more into silence.
The convoy had long since stopped for the night.
Tents had been erected while campfires burned quietly.
Most of the base leaders and their subordinates had already gone to sleep, hoping to recover their strength before continuing the journey at dawn.
Inside one of the tents, Ivy lay quietly with her eyes closed but just as she began to believe the night would pass peacefully....a violent headache exploded inside her head without warning.
She immediately clutched her forehead, her breathing becoming uneven as sharp pain shot through her skull.
Her instincts screamed at her.
Ignoring the throbbing pain, Ivy slowly turned her gaze toward the small opening in the tent....her pupils contracted instantly.
"What the hell is going on now?"
Fear flickered deep within her eyes.
Outside...the bright silver moon that had illuminated the earth moments ago slowly began losing its glow. Its pale light gradually darkened.
Then...thin red streaks spread across its surface like veins.
Ivy’s heartbeat nearly stopped as her danger perception had never reacted this violently before.
She immediately shifted her gaze toward the surrounding forest where the darkness between the bushes suddenly came alive as red glowing eyes could be seen.
Without wasting another second, Ivy spun around and grabbed Darren by the shoulder.
"Wake up!" she shouted urgently, shaking him hard. "There’s danger!"
Darren’s eyes snapped open instantly.
Years of surviving the apocalypse had trained his body to react before his mind fully awakened.
He didn’t waste a single second asking questions as if Ivy said there was danger then there was danger.
Immediately, he grabbed his weapon and rushed out of the tent alongside her but however...before either of them could alert the others or even make it halfway toward the nearest truck....
Low growls suddenly echoed throughout the forest as the monsters began rushing towards them.
