Chapter 216: Chapter 216 Let’s get out of here.

The next morning arrived swiftly, with the golden sun slowly rising above the horizon. Its warm rays spread across the land, illuminating the abandoned highway, the parked convoy, and the exhausted survivors who had somehow managed to live through the previous night’s monster tide.

Inside one of the trucks, Ivy slowly opened her eyes and stretched lazily before turning her gaze toward the truck window.

Outside, several survivors were already awake, moving around the campsite while preparing breakfast and checking their weapons.

However...What caught Ivy’s attention wasn’t their movements, instead she noticed faint blue lights surrounding a number of them.

"Huh?" Ivy thought inwardly, narrowing her eyes. "What’s going on now?"

She quietly observed the glowing lights for a few more seconds.

Fortunately...they weren’t red as from what she had learned so far, red lights usually represented danger or hostile intent.

Ding!

{Congratulations, Host. Your mental ability has increased. You can now sense the abilities of others much more clearly than before.}

A satisfied smile slowly appeared on Ivy’s face.

That’s great. she thought happily while her curiosity immediately shifted toward another matter.

"Let’s check Antelope Base out. I haven’t been able to detect anyone’s abilities from that base until now but I’ll love to start from that base first."

Ding!

{That was because your previous ability scanner was still somewhat underdeveloped. After your recent upgrade, its detection capabilities have significantly improved.}

"I see.Thank you."

Closing her eyes, Ivy quietly released her mental power as an invisible wave spread outward from her and its target was no other than Antelope.

The moment her mental energy approached him, she immediately sensed something unusual as countless number of invisible needle-like threads surrounded him as well as others from his base, forming what resembled a massive protective barrier.

The sharper she tried to probe, the more resistance she encountered.

So he had prepared against mental-type ability users...Ivy thought with slight surprise.

The barrier made it nearly impossible to scan them directly or even Antelope but then sfe was still able to gain little information.

A Rare-Class Ability...

A highly restrictive control-type ability user.

"So that’s his ability..."

Before she could investigate any deeper, Ivy immediately withdrew her mental power at almost the same time before she could get discovered as several dozen meters away...Antelope slowly frowned.

"Hm?" His sharp senses had picked up something unusual.

For the briefest moment, it had felt as though someone had been peeking into his abilities.

His eyes slowly swept across the surrounding area but unfortunately for him....Ivy had already completely withdrawn her mental energy.

Meanwhile back inside the truck, Ivy let out a quiet sigh.

"I’ll try again another time."

Just then....

The sound of knocking on the truck window interrupted her thoughts.

Ivy raised her head before looking outside.

Standing there were numerous survivors from several different bases and the only people missing were those from Antelope, Dawn and Erick’s base. Every single person outside wore an expression filled with anger.

Ivy calmly opened the truck door before stepping down.

"Yes?" she asked, looking around at everyone with genuine curiosity. "Is there a problem?"

"Oh, there’s definitely a problem."

A masculine voice answered immediately.

The speaker was the same man from Starlight Base who had openly challenged Antelope after the execution of the infected survivor the previous night. His expression was filled with resentment. "How could you stay inside that truck throughout the entire battle?" he demanded angrily.

"Do you really think the rest of us enjoyed risking our lives out there?" You think everyone else wanted to fight monsters while you stayed safely hidden?"

Another base leader stepped forward.

"You spent the whole battle sleeping inside your truck." His voice became even colder. How could you do that? You’re a base leader! People are supposed to look up to you."

"You could’ve hidden too if you didn’t want to fight," Ivy replied calmly, her answer immediately caused several people’s expressions to darken. "But that wasn’t possible, was it?" she continued without the slightest hint of guilt.

"You were all capable of handling the situation anyway so why are all of you shouting first thing in the morning?"

Her calm response only made everyone even angrier.

"What exactly is your purpose for joining this mission?" another base leader demanded, glaring at her.

"You seriously expect to receive a share of the rewards after doing absolutely nothing?"

Instead of answering him...Ivy simply turned toward Darren, who had also just climbed out of the truck.

"Come on, Darren." She scratched her ear lazily before speaking. "Let’s get out of here."

Just before another leader could continue accusing her....

"What’s going on here?" A familiar voice interrupted everyone.

Erick looked around at the gathered crowd before his gaze settled on Ivy.

His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Why is everyone gathered here this early in the morning?" He then looked directly at Ivy."Are you alright, Captain Ivy?"
