Chapter 344: Chapter 344: Caught

The moment he heard the voice, he knew he’d been discovered.

It wasn’t just that he’d been discovered—they had him in their sights. This group was trouble; they were actually trying to capture him.

Realizing this, he stopped crawling and scrambled to his feet, breaking into a desperate sprint toward Stella Sterling’s car.

As he ran, he screamed, "Help! Someone’s here! They’re trying to get me! Hurry up and save me!"

He was using his voice to warn Stella Sterling that people were coming, and they meant harm.

He hoped she would notice right away and come rescue him.

He also hoped his shouting would let these people know he had backup, that they weren’t afraid of them, and that they would back off when they realized the situation was difficult.

’That woman is so powerful, and so strong. That night, she took on four people by herself without any trouble.’

’So dealing with just a few people like this shouldn’t be a problem for her, right?’

Even as he thought this, Andrew Shaw couldn’t help but feel a little scared.

Just as he got to his feet, the vehicle screeched to a halt. A man in camouflage fatigues jumped out.

The man sprinted toward Andrew Shaw. Instead of being deterred by his cries for help, he just threw his head back and laughed. "HAHAHA!"

"So there are others with you, just as I thought. For a kid to still be alive in these times... it must mean his group still has food!"

"HAHAHA, once we catch them, we’ll have hit another jackpot! We’ll be eating and drinking well for a good long while!"

The others in the vehicle heard this and laughed as well. They pulled the vehicle to a stop. Everyone got out except for the driver, who stayed behind the wheel.

They were holding weapons, but they didn’t run toward the boy. Instead, they gathered by their vehicle, watching the scene unfold as if it were a play.

It was just catching a little kid, after all. One man was more than enough; the whole group didn’t need to get involved.

Still, their eyes were scanning the surroundings.

If the boy had companions nearby, they were most likely his family.

They wouldn’t be far from the child, so the group had to be somewhere in the vicinity.

Despite their boisterous laughter, they didn’t let their guard down. They were ready to fight at a moment’s notice.

Following the direction the child was running, their gazes soon locked onto a vehicle in the distance.

Though they all wore flippant expressions, their stances had shifted. They sized up the distant spot with probing eyes.

’Who knows how many people are in that car? And what kind of firepower do they have?’

’If their numbers are similar to ours, it could be a real hassle.’

’After all, in this apocalypse, anyone who can travel with a small child can’t be weak.’

’You don’t survive this long without some skill.’

’Hopefully, there aren’t many of them. Then we can use our superior numbers to take them down easily.’

’And if...’

At this thought, they glanced toward the child, a smirk touching their eyes.

’Their side has a kid. In this apocalypse, a kid is a weakness, a burden.’

’A little kid, maybe four or five years old, has zero offensive capability.’

’As long as we can grab the kid, we can use him to scare them, make them hesitate.’

’We can threaten them with the kid, make them hand over some of their supplies.’

In an instant, they had a plan. It all depended on the strength of the other party.

’If they’re weak, we’ll wipe them out and take everything.’

’If their strength is comparable to ours, we’ll take a step back. We can just use the kid to threaten them for some food. No need to go all out and make mortal enemies.’

’Best to avoid a fight if we can. After all, in this apocalypse, if you’re not absolutely sure you can win, it’s better not to start a conflict.’

’Getting injured in a fight can be a death sentence. It’ll be a huge problem the next time you run into danger.’

"Haha, you little brat! You think you can outrun me with those short little legs? Just give up and accept your fate."

The man in camouflage grabbed Andrew Shaw, hoisting him into the air. He let out a triumphant laugh. "HAHA!"

A flash of despair crossed Andrew Shaw’s face.

’I’m too small. Way too small. My body is just too weak. I can’t outrun them, and I can’t fight them.’

’To think that in my past life, I survived the apocalypse from age seven to twenty-five! I’d honed a whole set of skills.’

’An ordinary person could never have survived that long.’

’But now, I have all these skills and no way to use them. It’s all this body’s fault for being too small. I’m a five-year-old kid. Even with all the techniques I know, they have no killing power. Executing them would just be a waste of energy.’

’At this moment, I’m once again jealous of that woman’s incredible strength.’

’If I had her kind of strength, then even in this small body, a single punch would have devastating power. I wouldn’t be so helpless.’

Listening to the man’s arrogant voice, Andrew Shaw felt utterly suffocated with frustration.

’In my past life, scum like this wouldn’t have even been a worthy opponent. I could have dealt with him easily.’

’But now, I’m completely outmatched. I can only let him do as he pleases, like a lamb to the slaughter. I don’t even have the strength to fight back.’

He felt utterly defeated.

’Why did I get transmigrated without any kind of cheat ability?’

’Forget a cheat ability, at least give me a strong body! Why did it have to be a child’s?’

’I was a child last time, and I suffered plenty. This time, I’m in an even younger body. What kind of bullshit is this?’

Despairing, he couldn’t help but tilt his head back and look at the sky—

But the sun was too bright. It stung his eyes, and he quickly shielded them with his hand.

"HAHAHA, what an idiot. I really don’t know what your family is thinking, dragging a moron like you along in the apocalypse."

Hearing this, Andrew Shaw shot him a cold glare. "You think everyone in this apocalypse is an animal like you?"

’What’s that supposed to mean, "dragging me along"? And who is he calling a moron?’

’I really don’t like the sound of that!’

’Besides, while his parents this time around might not be the most reliable, his mom and dad in his previous life were amazing. They always protected him. Not everyone is as cold-blooded as these guys.’

’Across two lifetimes, I’ve seen far too many people abandon their children, their husbands, their wives, all just to save their own skin.’

’It really takes all kinds!’
