Chapter 335: Chapter 335: Advance Notification
He mulled this over, still a bit confused, and glanced at the person in front of him.
Her attitude toward him wasn’t friendly, and she didn’t seem like a good person either. He just didn’t understand why she’d decided to keep him around.
He’d thought she might have softened up, but she didn’t seem like the type.
Stella Sterling sensed the confused stare from behind her, but she ignored it.
She’d rested, eaten her fill, and even had a few snacks to lift her spirits. Now, she was ready to get back on the road.
And so, she got back in the car and started driving toward Sanctyr Base again.
This time, however, as she set off again, a little guy occupied the back seat.
Normally, Stella Sterling would never turn her back on a stranger, not even a child.
But this person was different. She had already made him take the Loyal Servant Pill. If he harbored any ill intent or tried to act against her, he would be immediately punished and stopped. She had nothing to worry about.
’This person knows what else is going to happen in the apocalypse. He’s useful to me.’
She was determined to keep him under her control.
This way, she would effectively have control over information about the future.
She already knew the future, of course, but her knowledge was limited to the first seven years of the apocalypse. She had no idea what happened after that.
Now, his arrival could fill that gap perfectly.
She would keep him firmly under her thumb and never let him fall into anyone else’s hands.
At that moment, another idea began to form in her mind.
Until now, she thought she was the only person in this world who had been reborn, a feat made possible by her spatial ability.
She had thought there would never be another.
But now, she had encountered someone who had traveled back from many years in the future.
’If he exists, could there be others in this world who have also come back?’
’Or even people who’ve come back from a future more distant than Andrew Shaw’s?’
’If so, and if I could find them and get them under my control, could I learn even more about what’s to come in the apocalypse?’
Of course, for now, this was just a guess. It was unconfirmed whether anyone else like Andrew Shaw existed.
Still, she decided she should pay more attention to this possibility from now on. She would have the other members of her base keep an eye out for any unusual individuals. If they found anyone, she would have to watch them closely.
Andrew Shaw sat quietly in the back seat.
His brow would furrow from time to time, as if he was contemplating something.
Moreover, he would occasionally glance toward Stella Sterling.
His gaze was appraising.
But Stella Sterling ignored him.
She just wanted to take advantage of the cooler night air to travel faster.
The roads were already bad enough. They constantly had to stop or take detours.
Their travel time was already limited as it was; she didn’t want to waste it on anything else.
’Even if I have questions for him, I can wait until we rest tomorrow morning to ask.’
So she let him continue to appraise her, saying nothing as she concentrated on the road.
Several times along the way, she came across large boulders that had slid down from the hillsides, blocking their path.
Each time, she simply got out of the car, effortlessly lifted the boulder, and tossed it aside.
The first time he witnessed this, Andrew Shaw was absolutely dumbfounded.
’Th-th-th-that... she’s basically a Titan!’
If he hadn’t come back from the future—and known that no one had awakened superpowers yet—he would have sworn she was a superpower user.
That wasn’t the kind of strength a normal person could possess.
After he saw her do it a few more times, the shock remained, but he began to grow accustomed to it.
He could only conclude that the world was full of all sorts of people.
Unfortunately, he had nothing of the sort.
Aside from coming back from the future, he didn’t have a single special power to his name.
It was no wonder that a seemingly defenseless woman like her dared to travel alone.
Aside from her decent combat skills and her self-defense weapon, her incredible strength was likely a major factor.
With that strength alone, who could possibly mess with her?
The thought made him feel both tempted and hesitant.
’It would be great if I could stay by her side. She’s so powerful, my safety would be pretty much guaranteed.’
’If I stay with her, I feel like my chances of survival would be much higher.’
’And since she’s bringing me along now, I think if I play my cards right, I might just be able to stick with her.’
But what made him hesitate was his feeling that she was not a good person.
And the crazed look on her face when she killed those men last night... that was truly terrifying.
’But if I stay with her and she has a psychotic break and decides to kill me, I’d have no way to fight back. I’d just be a lamb to the slaughter. That’s a huge risk.’
The two continued their journey, the world silent beneath the night sky.
"Don’t go this way. Take the other road."
Andrew Shaw, who had barely spoken, suddenly said to Stella Sterling as he gazed at the scenery on either side of the road.
He had traveled this road with his parents before. He remembered that a section up ahead had collapsed, leaving a massive chasm. The road was completely impassable. Worse, if you didn’t see it in time, you could fall right in.
It was a deadly drop. In his past life, he and his parents had been lucky enough to spot it just in time. If they hadn’t...
Now, since he was in the car with her, he had no choice but to warn her.
But as soon as the words left his mouth, he regretted it. It was strange and out of place for a five-year-old boy to suddenly say something like that.
’I hope she doesn’t read too much into it...’
Upon hearing this, Stella Sterling glanced back at him. Just as his face tensed with anxiety, she turned away again.
Then, she followed his advice and turned onto the other road instead.
Andrew Shaw breathed a sigh of relief, but the next moment, he became puzzled again.
’Why would she listen to me?’
’Did she already know about the road conditions ahead, or was it really because of what I just said?’
’It can’t be the latter. After all, she has no reason to believe me.’
He thought for a moment, still feeling uneasy, and decided to explain. "A few days ago, my parents and I came from the other direction. We were on that same road, but it had already collapsed, so we had to switch to a different route."
Stella Sterling merely nodded. After a moment’s thought, she said, "I hope that for the rest of our journey, you’ll continue to warn me of any problems ahead of time, just like you did just now."
