Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Planning to Escape

Watching him wolf down the food, Stella Sterling didn’t say much.

While he ate, she pulled out some snacks for herself. They paid each other no mind.

Only after he finished eating did Andrew Shaw look up at Stella Sterling, and he saw her sipping a drink.

Looking at it, he found it both strange and familiar.

It was now more than three years into the apocalypse. Who could still get their hands on something like this?

If you were going to hoard anything, you’d hoard food that could fill your stomach. Things like drinks were just old stock from before, and after more than three years, they would have all been drunk long ago.

Most of the food collected three years into the apocalypse had already gone damp.

Especially drinks like these, which would be completely undrinkable.

’Where did she get this?’

He had seen such things before, but he hadn’t tasted one in a very long time.

In his past life, when the apocalypse began, he was seven years old. He’d had drinks like the one in her hand back then.

After that, for the next 18 years of the apocalypse, he never had a drink like that again.

When he transmigrated, this body was just a little over a year old, barely able to talk and walk. He couldn’t possibly have had a chance to drink these things, and then the apocalypse started all over again.

He stared at the drink in Stella Sterling’s hand. Even though he had just eaten his fill, he couldn’t help but swallow hard.

’It looks so good. I wonder what it tastes like. I’ve had it before, but it’s been so long that I’ve completely forgotten the taste.’

He looked at the woman before him with a hint of envy.

’In my past life, I managed to grow up during the apocalypse, but it was a miserable, hard-scrabble existence. I can’t even count the hardships I endured and the suffering I faced.’

’Then I died. I died in the 18th year of the apocalypse.’

’When I came to, I found myself awake once more.’

’Realizing this filled me with joy. I finally wouldn’t have to suffer through the apocalypse anymore.’

’But my happiness didn’t last long. I soon discovered I had been reborn into the same world, just 18 years in the past, in the body of another child.’

’In other words, I had to experience the apocalypse all over again.’

’But even that would have been bearable. I figured that, as someone who had come back from the future, I would at least know what was going to happen and could prepare in advance.’

’With my skills, I shouldn’t have too bad of a time. Maybe I could even thrive in the apocalypse, make a name for myself, and perhaps even become a warlord.’

’But a fantasy is just a fantasy. When I first came back, this body was just over a year old, not even two.’

’Even if I was full of ambition, even if I knew what was coming, what could a toddler do? One wrong move and I’d be dead!’

’In my past life, I was seven when the apocalypse started. I thought I had it rough back then, but my parents protected me with their lives, giving me time to grow up.’

’This life was even worse. I was just over a year old, still stumbling when I tried to walk.’

’Being reborn into a body like this and having to face the apocalypse again... it was a complete disaster.’

’Worse still, I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find any kind of special ability or cheat.’

’No special ability, and only a year old. What could I possibly do?’

’Coming back just meant suffering all over again!’

’And I wasn’t wrong. Although I used some memories from my past life to get a few advantages from Tanya Holloway and take some precautions...’

’...all that did was buy us a little more time and save us from a bit of starvation. In this apocalypse, I still had to endure all the same hardships.’

’On top of that, I was much unluckier this life than the last. I ended up with a pair of selfish parents.’

’If I hadn’t shown I had some use, they would have abandoned me long ago. At just over a year old, I would have had no chance of survival if they’d left me.’

’But no matter how hard I wracked my brain, the moment I was no longer useful to them, that pair of parents still abandoned me.’

He seethed with resentment. He was still too young now. ’If I just had a few more years, until this body has some ability to protect itself...’

He was certain that even if he couldn’t become an overlord in this apocalypse, he could at least ensure a decent life for himself.

But alas...

Thinking of this, his gaze on the woman before him grew even more envious.

’I, someone who came back from the future, am living such a miserable life. But her? Not only does she have plenty of food, but she seems to live in luxury.’

’She just leaves the car’s air conditioning on, not even thinking about how much fuel it’s using. She doesn’t seem worried in the slightest.’

’Isn’t this the exact life I’ve been dreaming of?’

He was incredibly curious how a lone woman like her was able to live so freely and comfortably in this apocalypse.

After a moment’s thought, he blinked his big eyes and asked, "Miss, what are you drinking? Can I have a little sip?"

He hadn’t forgotten the appearance of his current body. It was easy for a five-year-old child to evoke sympathy.

He had thought she was different, but in the end, hadn’t she spared him?

Maybe if he shamelessly acted a little pitiful and cute, he could win her sympathy again.

Hearing this, Stella Sterling shot him a glance. "It’s not good to be too greedy, you know."

Andrew Shaw bit his lip and said nothing, putting on a silent, pitiful expression.

But Stella Sterling felt not a shred of sympathy. She continued with her snacks, ignoring him.

’Setting aside the fact that he isn’t a real child, knowing his origins just makes his behavior seem bizarre to me.’

’And even if he were a real child, so what? They’re my things. I have no obligation to give them to him.’

’The food I gave him earlier was purely because he’s still useful and I need him to stay alive.’

’Otherwise, why on earth would I give him anything?’

’Food is a necessity; I have to give him that to keep him alive. But a drink is not.’

So Stella Sterling simply glanced at him in the rearview mirror.

Then she paid him no further mind and continued eating by herself.

Andrew Shaw watched her for a while, and seeing that she had no intention of paying him any mind, he could only give up on the idea.

He settled back into the rear seat.

He didn’t ask where she was going, nor did he ask why she had kept him.

And he didn’t ask what she planned to do with him in the future.

’Since I’ve survived for now, I just want to cherish this moment.’

’As long as I’m alive, there’s always a chance. So, I don’t really care what she’s planning to do with me. The most urgent task right now is to figure out a way to escape.’

’This woman... being with her means food, but she’s also extremely dangerous. For my own safety, it’s better to leave.’
