Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Survive
’This news is certainly unexpected.’
She narrowed her eyes, sizing up the five-year-old child before her.
’Five must be his current body’s age, and twenty-five must have been his age when he transmigrated.’
’So, in his past life, he was seven years old when the apocalypse began, and he survived in it for eighteen years.’
’He must still have memories of things that happened in his past life.’
In her own past life, Stella Sterling had died in the seventh year of the apocalypse.
This boy, however, had survived for eighteen years. She had no idea what happened after the seventh year, but he clearly did.
At this thought, Stella Sterling looked at him and asked again, "Did the apocalypse end after fifteen years?"
Hearing Stella Sterling’s question, the boy’s expression turned pained as if recalling something. He still answered, "No. Fifteen years in, the apocalypse was still going. By then, the living conditions on Earth had gotten worse and worse."
He stopped there. Stella Sterling had many more questions, but she knew this wasn’t something she could get to the bottom of in a moment.
’I could spare him. If I keep him alive, I can slowly extract information about the future.’
’The more I know, the better. If I know what disasters will happen after the seventh year, I can prepare for them.’
’Besides, technology eighteen years into the apocalypse is probably vastly different from what we have now.’
’Learning about future tech would be a great help to Professor Lawrence’s research. It could provide them with new lines of thought.’
So, she decided to spare the life of the person before her.
However, before that...
Stella Sterling’s eyes narrowed.
She took something else out from her coat.
She fed him a Loyal Servant Pill.
This person was no ordinary child, and even an ordinary child shouldn’t be underestimated.
Especially not one who had survived so many years in the apocalypse.
’By my calculations, he was just over seven years old when the apocalypse hit in his original world, and he survived for more than eighteen years. How could someone like that be simple?’
’Sparing his life is fine, but I won’t give him any opportunity to harm me.’
’Making him eat the Loyal Servant Pill is an excellent choice.’
After feeding him the pill, Stella Sterling looked at him and continued her questions. "So what’s your situation now? Did your parents really abandon you?"
"They really did. For years, they relied on my warnings to avoid countless dangers. They only managed to hoard so much food at the start because of me."
"After the apocalypse started, they lived so well only because of the information I had. But once they noticed there was something strange about me, and decided I was no longer useful, they just abandoned me."
As he spoke, his voice was filled with anger and resentment.
Stella Sterling got the gist of the situation. So, he did have parents.
Over the years, he and his parents had a symbiotic relationship.
He was too young to protect himself, so his parents did everything they could to keep him safe.
In return, he would "accidentally" discover things that brought them benefits.
Once they saw how he could benefit them, they protected him even more fiercely.
Even though they knew there was something unusual about him.
But it seemed the boy’s luck had run out.
Although he had memories of this period from his past life, he was still just a child back then. He remembered the major events, but the finer details were lost to him.
For quite a while, he hadn’t "discovered" any new food for his parents.
His parents decided he was no longer useful and abandoned him.
Once Stella Sterling understood the situation, she didn’t ask any more questions.
She knocked him unconscious with a chop to the neck, then picked him up and tossed him into the back seat of her car.
She drove away from the area.
After driving for a long time, Stella Sterling estimated she had left Mirefall and reached the next city.
It was almost noon. She stopped traveling for the day, finding a sheltered spot to park the car.
She then took a tent from her dimensional space and used it to cover the car. She got inside the car to sleep, leaving the air conditioning off.
She slept until evening.
Stella Sterling was woken by her growling stomach.
She took a pile of things out of her dimensional space.
In this scorching heat, Stella Sterling’s appetite was a bit smaller than usual.
She chose some light food and quickly finished her meal.
Then she took out a popsicle to cool down.
Just as she finished, she heard a noise from the back of the car.
She glanced back and saw that the boy, who had been unconscious for a long time, was finally waking up.
When he opened his eyes, they held a flicker of confusion. He looked around, his posture guarded.
It only took him a moment to realize he was in a car, and he sat up abruptly.
Then he saw the woman.
He was confused. He thought he was long dead, but he was still alive, and in a car no less.
’I’m not dead. She spared me.’
’And not only that, it seems she’s taking me with her.’
A flash of excitement appeared in his eyes at the thought.
He had managed to survive again. He had thought there was no escape this time and had already prepared for death.
He never expected such a pleasant surprise upon waking.
The lingering aroma of food filled the car.
Andrew Shaw took a few deep breaths and swallowed hard. Just then, his stomach began to grumble.
He looked at Stella Sterling, a little embarrassed. "Miss... could you give me something to eat?"
’She already spared my life by not killing me. Why would she share food with me? Food is so precious now.’ He had no confidence as he asked.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Stella Sterling tossed two loaves of bread to him.
Andrew Shaw caught them, pleasantly surprised but also suspicious as he looked at Stella Sterling.
’Why is she suddenly being so accommodating? There must be a catch, right?’
’Or... is she trying to fatten me up, and then...’
The thought of things he had witnessed in his past life made his body tremble in terror.
Stella Sterling glanced at him in the rearview mirror. "If you’re too scared to eat it, don’t. I’m not forcing you."
Hearing that, Andrew Shaw tore open the packaging and began to wolf down the bread.
’No matter what happens later, I have to survive for now.’
’As for the future... who can say what will happen?’
’I’ll just take it one step at a time.’
