Chapter 125: Governor of Dunmarrow Province
"The Governor’s reputation, within the Imperial Administration, is recognized for his meticulous organization, balanced decision-making, and ability to coordinate large civil projects without disrupting military operations.
Under his administration, Mirefall has developed a reputation for efficient governance despite the province’s challenging environment.
The road connecting to every settlement was headed by him.
Thus, he is known for approaching problems methodically, relying on verified reports, expert consultation, and careful planning before authorizing major initiatives.
This is only possible because of the Imperial Family’s Academy in Aurelion Prime. I was also a graduate there, albeit in the Military Academy.
The Governor and the Vice Governor graduated in the Imperial Administrative Academy, where they teach future leaders and bestow class advancement from the Supreme Strategist S-Class sequence."
The Commander couldn’t help but feel nostalgic.
Max frowned.
He asked, "If they graduated from the Academy, doesn’t mean there were supposed to be many of them who possessed the same capability as them?"
The Commander suddenly remembered after realizing something from Max’s question.
He explained. "Those who graduated from the Imperial Administrative Academy was designated in the Aurelion Prime as administrators.
As for those excellent individuals, they were chosen to study in the Imperial Steward Corps, an elite administrative institution founded by the Imperial Family to identify and cultivate individuals capable of governing the Empire’s provinces, cities, towns, and frontier settlements.
Members like the Governor and Vice Governor undergo years of practical service under experienced governors and commissioners before becoming eligible for independent appointments.
Because of the nature of the curriculum, the vast majority of graduates naturally awaken into the Support Branch, with the Architect of Fate class being regarded as the ideal culmination for those destined to oversee provinces and major administrative centers.
I, myself, graduated from the Imperial Military Academy and was fortunately chosen to be part of the Imperial Command Corps."
At this point, the Commander’s voice was enlivened, filled with admiration and astonishment.
"The Imperial Command Corps is the Empire’s highest professional officer corps, established by the Imperial Family to cultivate military leaders capable of commanding armies, fortresses, military regions, and provincial defense networks.
Graduates are selected from among the Military Academy’s most distinguished officers after demonstrating exceptional leadership, tactical ability, and administrative competence.
Unlike ordinary commissioned officers, members of the Imperial Command Corps are considered strategic assets of the Empire and are eligible for appointments to the Empire’s highest field commands."
Max nodded. He silently applauded the Commander, knowing his background.
He came from the poor family, but that didn’t stop him to be chosen by the Imperial Command Corps and became one of the highest leading positions in his hometown.
While Max was applauding his achievements silently, the Commander suddenly recalled the vice governor and giggled.
"If you’re interested to beautiful women, you’d be disappointed. We might not get to meet Vice Governor Aimee.
She’s one of the beautiful women in Dunmarrow. Unfortunately, she didn’t show interest in any men."
Max stared at him strangely. "You’re the only one who’s disappointed."
The Commander chuckled. "Well, I indeed had a crush on her. But given how devoted she is on her position, even threatening the governor in his position, I have nothing but respect for her now."
Max didn’t believe him.
Their conversation was cut off the moment they arrived outside of the Governor’s office.
There was a knight stationed on the door, greeting the Commander with a bow.
When he saw Max, he hesitated until he saw the insignia. He immediately bowed, still confused what it represented.
But it definitely conveyed higher rank than him.
Given that he accompanied the Commander only confirmed his speculation.
The knight then knocked the door and informed the Commander’s arrival.
The Governor’s calm voice echoed on the other side, granting the knight to open the door, allowing the Commander and Max to enter.
Max surveyed the office as the door behind him closed.
The office contained a provincial administrative desk, a large strategic map of Mirefall, provincial census records, infrastructure reports, budget ledgers, a communication crystal array, and a meeting area for official consultations.
Similar to the Commander’s office, there were large windows behind the administrative desk, overlooking both the administrative square and the distant skyline of Dunmarrow.
In the administrative desk was the Governor of the Dunmarrow province.
He appeared to be in his early fifties.
He possessed a composed and scholarly demeanor, standing slightly above average height with a lean build maintained through years of disciplined routine rather than martial training.
His silver-streaked dark hair was neatly combed back, complementing sharp blue-gray eyes that seemed to describe his observant and thoughtful nature.
He wore finely tailored administrative robes in deep navy and white, embroidered subtly with the provincial insignia and the Imperial crest.
The Governor was deeply immersed in scribbling in the paper, having the Commander and Max to wait.
The Commander himself didn’t distract the Governor from his work.
He was aware that if he disturbed the Governor, a life might be lost.
That was how important the Governor’s work was.
The Commander didn’t even bother explaining it to Max, but the latter himself was already aware.
He was not dumb. He could wait patiently anyway.
Thankfully, after ten minutes, the Governor finally put down his pen and glanced at them.
He beamed a smile and stood up.
The Commander greeted first, "Elia, how have you been?"
He walked towards the Governor and hugged him tightly.
Max simply followed the Commander behind.
The Governor held his breath from the Commander’s tight hug and tried to pull himself away from the Commander, feeling suffocated.
His face reddened and before it exploded, the Commander finally put him down, allowing him to gasp for breath.
"Y-You almost killed me."
The Commander laughed.
He waited until the Governor finally regained his composure and asked, "What was the isolation about, huh?
You doing good?"
The Governor shrugged. "Not too bad. I only wanted to increase my proficiency skill to solidify my foundation, or else, Aimee will obtain my position in no time."
The Commander exploded into the hoot of laughter. ..
