Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Prank
However, creating, nurturing, and controlling even a single zombie was incredibly difficult; it couldn’t be wasted for nothing.
The person beside him finally breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Within moments, the zombies began showing signs of retreat.
The two of them had just started having fun with the killing. Roman Rowe even proposed a competition, to which Frost Shaw just rolled his eyes.
"Huh? Why are the zombies leaving?" Roman Rowe stopped what he was doing and asked in confusion.
Frost Shaw fell silent, his gaze fixed on the distant gates of Nutwood Base. Jason Lynch’s heart jolted. He had a very strong, bad premonition...
Even though they were hundreds of meters apart, Jason Lynch just knew that Frost Shaw had seen him.
He hurried down from the wall. With the extremely thick wall acting as a barrier, the uneasy feeling in his heart lessened slightly.
"They’re gone." Frost Shaw returned to Lily Hart’s side, looking at her with considerable worry.
Her face was pale, and her once-rosy lips were now colorless. Her brow was tightly furrowed, as if she were enduring immense pain.
Frost Shaw’s fingers twitched. He wanted to step forward and smooth her furrowed brow, but he forcefully restrained himself.
Lily Hart was propping her head up with one hand, her eyes tightly shut. Hearing him, she opened her eyes slightly and offered a perfunctory compliment, "Okay. Nicely done."
A mere ten minutes had completely drained her mentally. Lily Hart now felt exhausted and sleepy, as if her body had been hollowed out.
"I’m going up to get some sleep." Lily Hart stood up, swaying slightly. Diana Sharp quickly caught her to steady her.
Diana Sharp turned to Frost Shaw and said, "I’ll help Lily up." Tina Jacobs also stood up to support her on the other side.
Frost Shaw nodded, his worried gaze never leaving her. The two helped Lily Hart over to the driver’s seat area and pressed a button.
Then, one by one, they went up, successfully laid Lily Hart on the bed, took off her shoes and socks, and placed a glass of warm water on the bedside table before coming back down.
Seeing the two come down, Frost Shaw immediately stood up and asked, "How is Lily... Boss Hart? Is she okay?"
Diana Sharp said, "She was out the moment she hit the bed."
Hearing this, Roman Rowe said, "She probably just overexerted herself."
"I shouldn’t have let her do it," Frost Shaw said, annoyed at himself. ’I could have clearly handled it quickly on my own...’
’But seeing her so full of spirit and vigor, I couldn’t bear to interrupt. I even wanted to watch for a while longer...’
Outside the RV, aside from the severed arms and legs of zombies littering the ground, which made for a rather gruesome scene,
everything was peaceful, as if nothing had ever happened. Leo Colby had left at some point.
After a brief moment of regret, Frost Shaw led the "little guys" to collect Crystal Cores. That stuff was important and couldn’t be wasted.
But after searching every last zombie at the scene, they couldn’t find a single Crystal Core. Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe exchanged a look, a shared suspicion now all but confirmed.
"Everyone go back and rest. We’ll open for business again tonight. If you get hungry, just grab something from the convenience store," Frost Shaw said.
But they had all just woken up a few hours ago and weren’t the type to sleep all day. One by one, they started cleaning up the battlefield.
Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe joined in, huddling together and discussing something in low voices.
"Do you think Nutwood Base was behind these zombies?" Roman Rowe asked.
"A rare moment of brilliance," Frost Shaw glanced at him and praised dryly.
Roman Rowe scratched the back of his head. He was about to laugh when it dawned on him. "Why do I get the feeling you’re insulting me? You are, aren’t you? Watch it, or I’ll tell Boss Hart!"
"Go ahead," Frost Shaw said fearlessly.
Roman Rowe was stumped. ’The one thing I had on Frost Shaw is now useless?’
"Why would Nutwood Base do this? Are they trying to take out Boss Hart? What’s in it for them? Can’t we all just cooperate and win together?" Roman Rowe continued with his questions.
Frost Shaw explained, "What do you think? How many pairs of eyes are on the lottery shop right now, wanting it for themselves? They have no interest in cooperating!"
Roman Rowe instinctively declared, "I won’t allow it!"
This was his only utopia in the apocalypse—a place of beauty and peace. He would never allow it to be destroyed!
Frost Shaw said softly, "Don’t worry. I won’t allow it either."
Roman Rowe glanced at him and felt reassured. Even though Frost Shaw was younger than him, he was reliable and responsible, and he gave people a sense of security.
The group gathered the zombie limbs into a spatial storage, cleaned up the battlefield, and then Frost Shaw sent the "little guys" back.
He then went to Nutwood Base by himself, found the Base Commander’s office, and released all the zombie limbs from his spatial storage.
Only when the huge office was completely filled did he clap his hands in satisfaction and turn to leave.
A few minutes later, Jason Lynch returned to his office, followed by several high-level base officials, intending to hold a meeting.
He twisted the handle and pulled open the door. WHOOSH... A flood of body parts surged toward him, instantly engulfing the group.
BOOM— A surge of immense energy burst forth, sending the body parts piled on him flying. Jason Lynch stood up, his face livid.
"H-help me up," a trembling voice said from behind him.
Jason Lynch, looking displeased, turned and kicked the man, cursing, "Have you gotten too comfortable holing up in the base? Your legs turn to jelly just from seeing dead zombies?!"
The man was sent flying several meters, only stopping when his back slammed into the wall. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead from the pain, but he didn’t dare to resist.
Jason Lynch stared at the zombie parts filling his office. The atmosphere grew heavy, and the men behind him were dead silent.
There was even a large face, all its teeth gone and one eyeball missing, staring right at Jason Lynch as if in provocation.
"Who was on watch today?" Jason Lynch turned, his expression growing darker, his voice thick with suppressed rage.
"B-Base Commander..." Someone came running up, frantically pulling up his pants with a panicked look on his face.
The man let out a scream, "AHHH—", and was instantly decapitated. His legs continued to run for a moment.
Jason Lynch took a deep breath, but it did nothing to quell the fury in his heart. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he ordered icily, "Get someone over here to clean this up!"
"Yes, sir." Someone complied. The high-level officials watched Jason Lynch’s departing figure—small, yet unnaturally imposing—leave.
A long while later, after Jason Lynch was completely gone, the men finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Whew... That was terrifying," one whispered.
"Keep your voice down. Be careful or you’ll lose your head."
"Who would be so bold?"
"Don’t even have to think about it. It was obviously that group from outside the base!"
The high-level officials discussed it in hushed tones for a few more moments before dropping the subject and dispersing to their duties.
Nutwood Base was actually quite efficient. They called in a few squads of The Guardian Corps, and the office was restored to its original state within half an hour.
...
"HAHAHAHAHA! You’re telling me you dumped all that in his office? With how petty he is, he must have been furious enough to die!" Roman Rowe slapped the table, delighted.
"It’d be best if he did," Frost Shaw sneered, his expression full of disdain.
Jason Lynch’s reputation was well-known throughout Rodington City: cunning, petty, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.
The saying went: if you can avoid provoking him, do. Otherwise, you’d better start sleeping with one eye open, because you’ll never know how you died.
Roman Rowe was still gloating. ’Just imagining the furious expression on that shorty Jason Lynch’s face is incredibly satisfying!’
"By the way, Boss Hart, this RV is seriously amazing! It can even block zombies?" Roman Rowe exclaimed in admiration.
"Huh?" Lily Hart, who had just walked over, only caught the last part of the sentence and let out a questioning sound.
Roman Rowe turned to look at her. Seeing that some color had returned to her face, he said, "I was just complimenting you, Boss Hart! Where did you get this RV? It’s so awesome!"
