Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Well Done
"It fell from the sky," Lily Hart said earnestly.
It was true. On her first day in the apocalypse, the RV had fallen from the sky and saved her life.
Roman Rowe didn’t believe her—in fact, no one would. They just assumed it was a secret she couldn’t easily talk about.
Frost Shaw gave her a once-over. Perhaps it was because she’d gotten some sleep, but her complexion was much rosier. She looked as healthy as ever.
"What about the... the zombie bodies?" Lily Hart asked, sitting down. She took a large gulp of water and gazed at the flat, clean ground ahead.
She couldn’t help but wonder if it had all been a dream and nothing had actually happened.
Speaking of which, Roman Rowe couldn’t hold back his glee and eagerly shared the news. "Frost Shaw put all the zombies in Jason Lynch’s office! BWAHAHAHAHAHA—it was hilarious!"
Lily Hart couldn’t help but chuckle. She glanced at the silent Frost Shaw beside her. ’I never thought he’d do something like that,’ she mused.
"Brilliant!" Lily Hart exclaimed, slamming her hand on the table as she stood up. She started clapping enthusiastically. "CLAP, CLAP, CLAP."
Lily Hart said excitedly, "To celebrate Jason Lynch getting what he deserves, for lunch today we’ll have... Frost Shaw, what do you want to eat?"
"Fried chicken?" Frost Shaw suggested.
Before the apocalypse, his parents would often take him out to eat. They would order a whole table of high-calorie food, complete with cola.
The family would eat happily, then go play at the mall’s playground. He missed those days.
"Alright," Lily Hart agreed. She immediately opened her Light Brain and began selecting a suitable combo.
Back in the 21st century, she had been a loyal devotee of the Golden Arches. Whenever she didn’t know what to eat, McDonald’s was the answer.
She skillfully ordered enough for everyone, picking out various snack platters and a family-sized bucket meal.
Soon, the table was laden with food. Everyone got a burger and a cola, and she opened packets of ketchup, sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, and even chili powder.
As Frost Shaw watched, he felt an uncanny sense of having returned to civilized times. The only difference was that now, he was with friends instead of his parents.
Who doesn’t love high-calorie food like fried chicken? Lily Hart certainly did. She called for everyone to sit down and dig in.
It was just as crispy and juicy as she remembered, with generous portions. Lily Hart took a bite of a spicy wing, followed by a sip of cola.
The weather outside was scorching, but inside the temperature-controlled RV, sipping on a cold cola was pure bliss.
With them around, Lily Hart no longer had to worry about portion sizes. They could polish off anything.
Sure enough, in less than half an hour, the mountain of food was gone. Easton and Diana Sharp even bickered over who got the last french fry.
After their meal, it wasn’t even four o’clock. With three hours left until nightfall, the wait was going to be tough...
The previous day’s scratch-off tickets had sold out by early morning, so Lily Hart placed a new order for the usual combination.
Twenty books of "Big 7s" and five books each of the other three types. She had also discovered something after reaching Level 5.
The scratch-off tickets would change, too. The current rules would be completely overturned and replaced.
For example, the scratch-off tickets would come in four price tiers: 25, 50, 100, and 150 points.
The prizes would also be tiered accordingly. A 25-point ticket would only yield the most basic daily necessities.
As ticket prices increased, the number of points you could get for a Crystal Core would also rise. Eventually, a single Level 1 Crystal Core could be exchanged for 100 points.
But all that was still a long way off. She was still 950,000 points short of the one million needed to reach Level 5...
Lily Hart bought a deck of playing cards and taught them all a game. The loser of each round had to fork over a Crystal Core. Time passed surprisingly quickly.
As seven o’clock approached, the first customer arrived. His first words were:
"Boss Hart, why does it smell so strongly of zombies here?" he asked, sniffing the air in confusion.
He didn’t dwell on it, though, saying anxiously, "Quick, quick, I need some scratch-off tickets."
Lily Hart was about to answer, but his fervent desire for scratch-offs cut her off. She had no choice but to take them out and set up her display.
"So, how are things at the base today?" she asked casually.
The man picked out his tickets impatiently, glancing nervously behind him from time to time like a thief with a guilty conscience.
At her question, he replied indignantly, "Hah, don’t get me started! The Base Commander threw a massive fit today! The Guardian Corps is in for it."
Lily Hart feigned curiosity. "Oh? What happened?"
The man’s voice dropped abruptly. Even though they were a hundred meters from the base, he lowered his voice to a whisper. "They say someone played a prank on the Base Commander."
"What kind of prank?" Lily Hart could barely keep from smiling.
"I heard someone filled the Base Commander’s office with zombies. Piled it to the brim, they say," the man said, reporting what he knew.
"Where’d you hear that? That’s completely wrong. It was the Base Commander’s office, and it was filled with the bodies of people he’d killed himself. They came back to haunt him."
At some point, another person had joined them, his voice also low and his expression complicated. He kept glancing over his shoulder.
’How is this story getting more and more ridiculous? It’s the apocalypse, and people are talking about vengeful spirits coming back to haunt someone?’
"And where did *you* hear that?" The two men started to argue, forgetting their tickets and beginning to debate loudly.
More people began to arrive as dusk fell, and hearing the discussion, they immediately jumped into the conversation.
The conversation grew heated, and they gradually forgot their original purpose for being there, as well as the need for caution.
Lily Hart wanted to hear some firsthand gossip, but she found the stories were getting more and more outlandish. All sorts of versions were popping up.
One story even claimed Jason Lynch was severely injured when he opened the door—that he’d lost a leg and an eye.
Lily Hart thought, ’These guys are such gossips.’
The searchlights on the base walls swept back and forth. The members of The Guardian Corps on duty were dozing, completely unaware of the lively scene just a hundred meters away.
Jason Lynch lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. The more he thought about what had happened during the day, the angrier he became.
Not only had he lost most of the zombies, but he’d also been played for a fool. He had lost everything—both face and fortune!
Besides him on the large bed were two beautiful women, one on each side. They saw him tossing and turning in frustration.
Finally, one of them had no choice but to speak. "What’s wrong, Base Commander? What is troubling you so?"
As she spoke, she pressed her soft, pliant body against him, trying to soothe his temper.
Jason Lynch had been lying on his side. Now, one woman pressed against his chest while the other snuggled against his back.
The soft touch on both his front and back slightly eased Jason Lynch’s frustration.
But that was followed by a stuffy heat. His body grew sticky with sweat, making him extremely uncomfortable.
He shoved them both away, got out of bed, and snapped, "Don’t follow me. I’m going for a walk by myself."
The two women didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until the door slammed shut with a BANG. Then, they began to complain in low voices.
"The Base Commander is in a bad mood tonight. Just our luck that it’s our turn... What a miserable fate, sister..."
The other woman sighed as well. Jason Lynch had no hobbies to speak of, other than his love for beautiful women.
That’s why there was a building in the base dedicated to housing his beloved beauties. He would even choose which one would serve him for the night like an ancient emperor picking from his concubines.
When he was in a good mood, he would summon two or three of them. When he was in a bad mood, it could be as many as five or six.
And he was a superpower user—strong, with incredible stamina. A single night with him could leave the women completely wrecked.
Some of these women had been offered up by families in the base trying to curry favor, while others he had "picked up" on his excursions.
