Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Kicked the Bucket

With a series of GULPS, it swallowed the air bullets, then shot them right back at an even faster speed.

Before the superpower users could even react, the air bullets WHIZZED right up to them. Their eyes went wide as they reflexively covered their heads with their hands.

But these were immensely powerful air bullets. In an instant, they knocked the superpower users to the ground.

Ethan Gable stared in disbelief. As the vortex appeared, he couldn’t help but slap his thigh and curse, "Son of a bitch!"

"HISS..." The movement pulled at his wound, and he sucked in a sharp breath. He snapped, his voice full of frustration, "What are you waiting for? Give me the painkillers!"

The lackey immediately presented the painkillers. Ethan Gable swallowed them in one gulp, and the pain finally began to subside.

But his head throbbed even more. He couldn’t understand it. ’Why is this Hart woman so damn powerful, and why are the superpower users I hired so pathetic?’

"Go! Roll out the cannon! I refuse to believe this!" Ethan Gable snarled.

The lackey wanted to protest, but one look at Ethan Gable’s ferocious glare made him back down. He had no choice but to wave to the men behind him.

Soon, two members of The Guardian Corps wheeled a large cannon forward. The crowd of onlookers in the distance couldn’t help but gasp in shock.

"The Base Commander actually brought out an ultimate weapon like that!"

"Looks like he’s really trying to kill Boss Hart!"

"Oh no! I think Boss Hart is a good person. If she dies, where are we supposed to buy our scratch-off tickets?"

"She really is! Not at all like those high-and-mighty capitalists."

"Boss Hart is so approachable~"

"We have to believe in Boss Hart! She won’t be defeated!"

"Yeah, let’s cheer her on!"

The idea was met with unanimous agreement. A roar louder than any loudspeaker shook the sky. Ethan Gable’s face twisted into a snarl as he glared in their direction, clenching his fists.

’They’re my residents! Why the hell are they siding with that damn bitch?’ Ethan Gable’s heart seethed with even greater resentment.

Lily Hart, meanwhile, leisurely raised a hand and gave the crowd a distant wave, acknowledging that she’d heard them.

The whole scene suddenly felt like a fan meet-and-greet.

Ethan Gable couldn’t take it anymore. "What are you gawking at?!" he commanded. "Fire!"

The lackey hesitated, but he hadn’t forgotten his job was to be a lackey. With a grand wave of his arm, he began stuffing dozens of Crystal Cores into the cannon with a series of loud CLANKS.

Then, he pressed a button, yanked the firing cord, and with a "BOOM—," the shell was launched.

The cannon shell was as blinding as the sun and moved with incredible speed. It was just slightly larger than her head.

Even the crowd, dozens of meters away, could feel the terrifying energy radiating from the shell.

Ethan Gable squinted, already imagining the scene of the RV being blown to smithereens.

Of course, the image of that bitch kneeling and begging him for mercy also played out in his mind, and he couldn’t stop a smirk from forming on his lips.

The residents watching knew the power of that cannon shell. It could obliterate even ten High-level Zombies at once...

They hardly dared to watch, covering their eyes and peeking through their fingers. All they saw was Lily Hart inside the RV, a disdainful smile on her face, as unshakable as a mountain.

’Was she scared? Of course not.’

The RV’s maximum protection system was already active. It would automatically absorb any and all attacks. In other words, it was completely immune.

And just as expected, the shell fired by the cannon was perfectly swallowed by the Protective Shield, which even let out a resounding BURP.

Ethan Gable’s face went pale with shock. He stammered, "How... How is that possible? That’s Spring-Watch Base’s greatest trump card..."

The lackey leaned in and whispered, "Base Commander, we should go. This woman is not someone we should mess with!"

"We’ve already provoked her! What else can we do?!" A pang of regret suddenly hit Ethan Gable.

’My nephew is already dead, and I’m still making an enemy of this bitch over a corpse.’

’And to top it off, this bitch was strong. He couldn’t beat her in a fight, he couldn’t out-argue her, and even his own damn residents were siding with her!’

Just thinking about it made Ethan Gable’s chest ache. ’How is this fair? How?!’

He refused to accept it!

Just as he was wallowing in his indignation, the lackey beside him shouted frantically, "AHH— Base Commander— RUN—"

He looked up in confusion, only to see that the cannon shell swallowed by the vortex was now being spat back out.

It had been split into a swarm of fist-sized projectiles, each as blinding as the sun, all hurtling toward him at high speed.

He frantically fumbled with the controls of his wheelchair. The lackey who had been at his side had vanished, not even his shadow remained.

Panic seized Ethan Gable. He struggled to turn his wheelchair around, and just as he was about to roll away...

Countless projectiles bombarded him in a deafening barrage of CRACKS and POPS, and plumes of black smoke began to rise.

Scream after scream tore from his mouth. Ethan Gable, his body twisting in agony, tumbled from his wheelchair.

He rolled back and forth on the ground, his body on fire, every inch of his skin screaming with burning pain.

His screams gradually faded, but the fire only grew stronger. No one moved to help; they all just watched with cold detachment.

Only when the fire was completely extinguished did the crowd slowly gather around. They were all shocked by what they saw.

All that remained was a stark white skeleton. Even the wheelchair beside it hadn’t been spared, reduced to a pile of ash.

Lily Hart shrugged helplessly. ’Hey, I didn’t do it,’ she thought. ’I didn’t lift a finger the entire time.’

Before she could even say anything, some residents had already taken it upon themselves to move the skeletal remains and place them on the pile with his nephew’s corpse.

They were so close in life. Now, they could keep each other company in death.

She figured she might as well take care of the pile of bodies. It was a horrible eyesore.

So she tossed a lighter to Diana Sharp. "Go burn that pile of bodies to ashes."

Diana Sharp and Tina Jacobs went together. Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe, who had been comfortably waiting inside the convenience store, also went to watch the excitement.

By now, neither of them worried about Lily Hart when she was in the RV. Inside it, she was invincible.

Not even God himself could do anything to Lily Hart in there.

The great fire blazed fiercely. From her distance, Lily Hart couldn’t feel its intense heat.

Once everything had burned away, leaving only a pile of ash, the residents buried it.

They felt no sorrow, no regret. Their mood was calm. To them, the death of a Base Commander was no big deal.

Central Command would just send someone else to take over anyway. It wasn’t their problem.

Still, some residents were quite happy that such a shitty Base Commander had kicked the bucket. They would no longer have to suffer under his oppression!

Lily Hart’s mood was also quite serene, completely unruffled. She simply sent a calm message to Logan Holland.

"The Base Commander of Spring-Watch Base is dead. When’s the new one getting here?"

Logan Holland didn’t have a good impression of Spring-Watch Base to begin with, and his opinion of its Base Commander was at rock bottom.

It was entirely possible the man had been killed by an enemy or in a civilian uprising. He didn’t ask for details, simply replying, "Within a week, at the earliest."

Lily Hart nodded, satisfied. ’I wonder if the next Base Commander will be able to get these residents in line,’ she mused.

The moment she looked up, the residents who had been watching the spectacle swarmed her, their eyes filled with pure adoration.

Lily Hart couldn’t help but laugh, thinking back to when she first arrived at Spring-Watch Base (which was, in fact, only a few days ago).

These people had been so aggressive, looking down their noses at everyone, ready to fight and kill at the slightest provocation.

But now, here they were, looking up at her with sparkling, eager eyes, like a litter of hungry little pups waiting to be fed.

"What are you all looking at me for?" Lily Hart asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.
