Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Planting a Tree

After burning the pile of corpses, Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe lingered outside for a while to get rid of the smell before returning to the RV.

They each flanked Lily Hart, and catching the looks from the crowd, they felt a sense of strangeness.

At this, the residents erupted into a clamor. "Boss Hart, how about you become our Base Commander?"

The moment the words were out, everyone voiced their agreement. What a great idea! Kill two birds with one stone, and they could buy scratch-off tickets every day!

"Yeah, yeah! Ethan Gable is dead, after all."

"Exactly! I’ve had it with the Gable Family for a while now. He looked down on everyone in the base!"

Lily Hart: "Huh?" ’How did we end up on this topic?’ She shook her head again and again, decisively refusing. "No way."

’She had no desire to stay in the same place forever.’

The residents were crestfallen, but they understood. ’Someone like Boss Hart, who’s destined for big things, couldn’t possibly stay here forever.’

The RV grew lively again as everyone went back to their scratch-off tickets. The death of a Base Commander had made no impression on them.

Lily Hart sat down and asked the two men, "Have you had breakfast? Want to get a bite?"

The RV had a defense mechanism, but it seemed to be tied to her spiritual power. After that massive energy drain, she was tired...

She hadn’t eaten breakfast and had gone through such an ordeal; now she was hungry too.

"Let’s eat!" Roman Rowe replied enthusiastically. He immediately sat down beside her and asked attentively, "What happened this morning?"

Frost Shaw also sat down, gazing silently at the wall opposite them. Lily Hart waved her hand. "It was that Base Commander, making trouble. He insisted this was his territory and told us to scram. How could I tolerate that?"

Roman Rowe shook his head like a rattle-drum. "You can’t! Absolutely not! It’d be one thing if we were inside the base, but how can he claim this is his territory when we’re so far away!"

"Exactly!" Frost Shaw added, offering his quiet support.

Lily Hart nodded emphatically. "That’s what I told him. I didn’t tolerate it, but I didn’t attack him, either. I don’t know how he died. Isn’t that strange?"

Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe exchanged a glance and nodded. "Very strange!"

Lily Hart nodded, satisfied. She ordered a bowl of beef ball rice noodle soup, then asked the two, "What are you having?"

"I’ll have what you’re having," Roman Rowe said, practically drooling.

"Alright." Lily Hart bought two more portions before starting to eat. The beef balls were firm and chewy, having absorbed the savory soup. She took a big slurp of noodles.

Although the flavor was a bit light, it was perfect for breakfast, warming her from the inside out.

As he ate, Roman Rowe said, "These beef balls are great, and the rice noodles are delicious, too. Could we buy some to cook ourselves?"

Lily Hart nodded in agreement. She didn’t want to always buy food from the Light Brain either; it always felt like eating a ready-made meal.

Buying them to cook at home sounded so wholesome and comforting. The kitchen had a large refrigerator, so Lily Hart immediately placed an order.

She bought some of both beef and pork meatballs, put them all in the freezer, and also purchased some rice vermicelli, flat rice noodles, and the like.

After they finished eating, the three of them sighed in contentment and leaned back in their seats.

Frost Shaw said, "Now that Ethan Gable is dead, what comes next...?"

Lily Hart let out a soft "Huh?" "I told Logan Holland. He said he’ll appoint a new Base Commander to come over within a week. It has nothing to do with me. I’ll just do my own thing."

Frost Shaw felt relieved. He knew Lily Hart wouldn’t be affected by this, but he worried about the rumors it would start.

’They’d say she kills without batting an eye, that she even dared to murder a Base Commander, that she holds no regard for human life.’

’Is she running wild just because she has a powerful superpower? But on second thought, that kind of gossip wouldn’t affect Lily Hart anyway.’

’At least, of all the people he knew, Lily Hart had the strongest mentality. To her, outside opinions were just bullshit.’

After finishing up with a wave of customers, Diana Sharp and Tina Jacobs also sat down. The moment Lily Hart saw them, she ordered two more bowls of rice noodle soup. "Go on, eat up."

It was another extremely busy day. With nothing else to do, Lily Hart went for a walk around the bathhouse.

As usual, it was packed. People who just wanted to take a bath and have some fruit would choose the cheaper first floor.

Those who wanted to truly relax would choose the second floor, where the cheapest option was 188 points per hour.

However, the food was portion-controlled, and customers could only select three services. For example, in the massage area, there was ear cleaning, scraping, shoulder and neck massage, cupping, and more...

You could pick two services from the massage area, plus either a soak in the bath or a body scrub.

Lily Hart went up to the second floor, which was even more crowded than the first. The recreation area was full of people holding plates of food; as soon as they finished, they’d go back for more.

She wasn’t worried about them eating Owen Warren into bankruptcy, though. The food and fruit for the buffet table were supplied on a monthly contract.

The stock would be automatically replenished if it fell below fifty percent, and it was certainly far, far cheaper than buying items individually from the store.

As she walked further in, customers greeted her one after another, and she responded with a smile.

Next to the recreation area was a small movie theater—a single screening room that could accommodate about two hundred people. It played a rotation of classic films from morning till night.

Lily Hart peeked inside. Wow, it was packed to the gills. People were even sitting on the floor in the space between the front row and the screen.

Almost everyone was holding some food, eating as they watched. It was a happy scene, giving one the feeling of having returned to civilized times.

Lily Hart stood at the entrance with her hands on her hips, watching the movie for a bit before quietly slipping away. She wandered around the second floor for a while longer before heading down.

She sauntered over to the front desk. There were no customers at the moment, so the Zombie King was taking advantage of the lull to doze off.

"Hey!" Lily Hart leaned in close, stomped her foot, and let out a shout, successfully startling the Zombie King awake.

Seeing it was Lily Hart, the Zombie King’s eyes lit up with a tell-tale gleam. The fragrance she carried grew more intense with each passing day.

But he was sleepy right now. The Zombie King simply turned his head, propped it on his hand, and went back to dozing.

Lily Hart whispered, "Tch. No fun." She sauntered off again, taking a turn through the convenience store.

With her hands clasped behind her back, she was like a lord inspecting their manor, swaggering about as she surveyed her territory.

The convenience store was packed to the brim. She glanced in from the outside, realizing she wouldn’t be able to squeeze in. Her young staff were all busy, so she turned and walked away.

Next, she wandered over to the Dawn Hotel and happened to run into Stan Sterling coming downstairs. Remembering something, she asked, "Did you plant that sapling of yours?"

Stan Sterling subconsciously tugged at the hem of his shirt, his heart tensing. He nodded. "I was just on my way to check on it."

He paused, then seemed to extend an invitation. "Would you like to come see it, Boss Hart?"

Since she had nothing better to do, Lily Hart raised an eyebrow. "Sure, let’s go. Where did you plant it?"

The two of them left the hotel, one walking behind the other. From behind the front desk, Leo Colby glanced up with a resigned sigh but didn’t give it much thought.

Lily Hart followed Stan Sterling around to the back of the hotel. He pointed to a hidden corner. "There."

She took a few steps forward and squatted down for a closer look. "When I first scratched it off, it was all wilted and looked half-dead. I didn’t expect it to look so lively once planted."

Stan Sterling squatted down beside her, his eyes darting to the side. "Tell me about it."

"Can it really improve the soil?" Lily Hart asked doubtfully.

’It wasn’t that she didn’t believe the system, but she was skeptical. How could such a tiny sapling improve the soil?’
