Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Sylas Sawyer
By now, the sound from upstairs had attracted the attention of quite a few people.
They then saw a figure in a golden mask descend from the second floor. She appeared to be quite young, but no one dared to underestimate her.
Led by the butler, Perry Yates made her way to a secluded corner of The Card Tavern.
On a sofa in the corner, a figure was casually sitting with his legs crossed. On the table was a glass of bubbling—sparkling water.
"So, you’re the real owner of this Card Tavern?" the man asked, sizing Perry Yates up from head to toe.
Perry Yates nodded. "My butler tells me you want to order a custom four-star card?"
He nodded. "I do. My name is Sylas Sawyer, by the way."
Sylas Sawyer flashed Perry Yates a brilliant smile, his two prominent canines glinting under the lights.
Perry Yates ignored his charming offensive, her expression remaining strictly business.
A white light flashed, and a clipboard and pen materialized in her hand. Perry Yates sat down across from Sylas Sawyer and began, "First, since you’re commissioning a four-star card, you need to be aware of the waiting period. The exact time will depend on the Card Level and attributes you request.
"You’ll need to pay a twenty percent deposit upfront. If you cancel the order, that deposit is non-refundable.
"If you agree to these terms, we can start working on the specifications right now."
After hearing Perry’s terms, Sylas Sawyer looked troubled. "Boss, isn’t the non-refundable deposit a bit harsh? And I heard a custom four-star card costs fifteen thousand White Cards. Can’t you make it a little cheaper?"
At his words, Perry Yates merely shot Sylas Sawyer a cool glance, then stood up without hesitation and said to the butler behind her, "Show our guest out."
In the blink of an eye, the butler was standing before Sylas Sawyer. "This way, please," he said, his expression placid.
Seeing that Perry Yates was serious, Sylas Sawyer immediately dropped the act. He stopped trying to pull any fast ones and said, "Wait, wait! Boss, I was just kidding! Why so serious? I know custom cards are hard to make. The price is the price."
Perry hadn’t actually intended to kick him out. ’After all, he’s my first customer for a custom four-star card.’
’With those fifteen thousand White Cards, I’ll finally achieve card independence.’
So, once Sylas Sawyer relented, she motioned for the butler to stand down.
"In that case, let’s determine the requirements for your card."
What followed was a simple question-and-answer session, with Perry Yates asking and Sylas Sawyer answering obediently.
"What card attributes do you want?"
"Any attribute is possible?" Sylas confirmed.
Perry Yates looked up and gave a very serious nod. "Of course. Any attribute is possible, as long as it’s a known one."
Upon hearing this, a glint of excitement flashed in Sylas Sawyer’s eyes.
Seeing this, Perry suddenly had a bad feeling.
And sure enough, her feeling was confirmed a moment later.
Sylas Sawyer said with a straight face, "I want a card that combines the following attributes: Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Ice, Poison, Thunder, Light, Healing, Sun, Moon, Space, Time, Mental, and Devour."
After listening to his request, Perry Yates just gave him a deadpan look.
"Theoretically, your request is possible. However, with so many attributes, the energies will be too volatile and chaotic. Accidents could happen, and if they do, this establishment will not be held responsible."
Hearing this, Sylas Sawyer’s smile froze. "What kind of accidents?" he asked.
Perry Yates shrugged. "What kind do you think? You should know what happens to players who try to fuse too many attributes."
Unless Sylas Sawyer could, like Perry, find a card capable of balancing multiple attributes.
Even so, Perry still wouldn’t recommend it. ’After all, who knew what kind of *thing* would result from fusing so many attributes together?’
"My recommendation is to fuse three attributes at most. The most powerful Multi-attribute cards discovered so far only have three attributes."
Hearing Perry’s words, Sylas Sawyer grew pensive, clearly taking her advice to heart.
The problem was deciding which ones to keep.
"Boss, how do you think I should choose?" Sylas looked to Perry, hoping for a suggestion.
"That depends on what you want. If you don’t like to fight, pick cards with survival abilities. If you’re going for a combat build, pick ones with high attack power."
After listening to Perry’s advice, Sylas Sawyer thought it over carefully. After a long while, he finally decided on the attributes he wanted: a combination of Wind, Thunder, and Fire.
Perry Yates nodded, marking the three attributes on her clipboard before asking a few more questions.
After asking the final question, Perry pushed the clipboard over to Sylas for his confirmation.
Once he confirmed the information was correct, the clipboard began to change, transforming into a formal contract.
"Sign it, pay the deposit, and then all you have to do is wait."
After signing, Sylas asked, "Roughly when can I expect to get the card?"
Perry Yates thought for a moment, doing a quick mental calculation. "About six or seven days. It won’t take more than ten."
Sylas calculated the time until his next game entry and nodded. "That works. Let’s exchange contact info, then. You can let me know when the card is ready."
Perry didn’t move. Instead, the butler produced a red wristband.
"We won’t need to exchange contact info. Take this wristband. When it turns green, you can come and pick up your card."
Failing to get Perry’s contact info, Sylas sighed in disappointment. "Alright, then. Here’s the deposit."
Twenty percent of fifteen thousand cards was three thousand cards.
Watching him produce the cards without a moment’s hesitation, Perry thought to herself, ’This guy’s background is definitely not ordinary.’
’She even suspected he’d actually come prepared to pay in full.’
’Oh well. Whether he brought the full amount or not has nothing to do with me.’
After collecting the three thousand cards, Perry left.
Before she left, she had a complimentary glass of soda sent over to Sylas Sawyer.
’He was a major client, after all. A free drink was only proper.’
Arriving at her workshop on the fifth floor, Perry took the cards out of her Space Backpack and began to sort them.
She separated the cards by attribute, placing them in different piles to make them easier to find later.
Then, she took out one card each of the Wind, Fire, and Thunder attributes and set them aside.
