Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Card Furnace
Joyce Lynch looked around and found she was still sitting in her original spot, but it felt as if she were in a quiet, private room.
Only then did she realize that the table was also an item card, and a two-star one at that.
Shocked by The Card Tavern yet again, Joyce Lynch quickly composed herself and began to craft her cards.
From the attributeless cards the tavern owner had left, Joyce Lynch could tell that what was needed were practical cards, not flashy but useless ones.
With that in mind, Joyce Lynch’s hands moved much faster.
Meanwhile, Jonah Chase returned.
He took a stack of White Cards out of his Space Backpack.
"Here are eighty White Cards and ten Rare Attribute Cards. One Rare Attribute Card is worth two ordinary attribute cards of the same attribute."
Perry Yates called her butler over to inspect the cards.
Once everything was confirmed to be in order, Perry Yates handed the Demon Wind card to Jonah Chase. "Please come again," she said.
After seeing Jonah Chase off, no one else came. Still, it was only the first day, so Perry Yates wasn’t worried.
The next day, Perry Yates didn’t linger on the first floor as she had before. Instead, she was in her fifth-floor workshop, continuously ascending the cards she had acquired the previous day.
Jonah Chase had brought a total of ninety cards. Eighty of them were ordinary attribute cards, and the remaining ten were all Rare Attribute Cards.
These included two Poison Attribute, one Moon Attribute, two Sun Attribute, one spatial attribute, two Fire Attribute, and two Spirit Attribute cards.
Perry Yates set aside the Moon Attribute, Sun Attribute, and Wood Attribute cards, then picked up the card with the spatial attribute.
The face of the card showed a transparent white square. It was essentially a Sealing Card, capable of sealing a space of roughly ten cubic meters for about ten minutes.
After ascending the card to one star, Perry Yates then took out the Wood Attribute Green Grass Card.
She went to the Card Furnace, a round furnace about twenty centimeters in diameter that looked like a smaller, simplified version of the Laojun Eight Diagrams Furnace.
After she placed the two cards into the Card Furnace, a faint yellow light suddenly glowed from within.
Perry Yates couldn’t see what was happening inside the Card Furnace, but she received feedback from it indicating that the fusion process would take a full five hours.
During those five hours, Perry Yates didn’t stay idle. She started ascending the rest of the cards.
At her current power level, she could easily use her own energy to ascend a card to two stars. Reaching three stars was technically possible, but only if her energy was full; otherwise, she would overdraw her power.
While Perry Yates was busy ascending cards, more and more players were finding their way into The Card Tavern on the first floor.
However, not everyone had enough cards to trade for higher-level ones.
Perry Yates had naturally considered this, so she thoughtfully offered an exchange service. Players could trade cards of the same level—excluding Rare Attribute Cards—for a small processing fee.
That processing fee was a single White Card.
Of course, if you were trading a Rare Attribute Card or a Dual Attribute Card, you could make a direct exchange with no fee at all.
Just then, Perry Yates paused in the middle of ascending a card. She sensed information being fed back to her from two of her items: the Knowledge Crystal and the Immersive Experience.
"So that’s it. That’s what the next survival game will be," Perry Yates murmured to herself.
The Knowledge Crystal and Immersive Experience were items bound to her, meaning any information gathered by those who used them would be relayed back to her.
That was why she’d never used the two items herself, despite owning them. There was simply no need.
’Considering what the next game will be,’ Perry Yates thought, ’I need to prepare in advance.’
With that in mind, Perry Yates went to the storage area for her item cards and started searching through them.
"This one should be useful... and this one... and this one. I’ll take this one along as well."
Perry Yates selected these item cards and set them aside, planning to properly ascend them when she had time.
「Five hours later」
Perry Yates pulled the newly fused card from the Card Furnace.
The two cards, once of completely different attributes, were now perfectly merged.
The face of the card now depicted the green grass, but compared to before, its blades had faint, shimmering patterns, and its color seemed much paler.
Perry Yates glanced at the attribute section. The card was now clearly Wood Attribute plus spatial attribute.
However, judging by the card’s appearance, the Wood Attribute was dominant.
After ascending the card from one star to two, Perry Yates took out her Any Door card.
She placed both cards into the Card Furnace again. This fusion would take two full days to complete.
’But if there was one thing Perry Yates had, it was time. Two days is nothing. I can wait.’
After putting the Card Furnace back in its place, Perry Yates went on to other tasks.
A lot of people came to The Card Tavern that day, but since most were just there to exchange cards, the workload was light. The butler could handle it all by herself.
「The next day.」
Perry Yates woke up in her soft, large bed. She didn’t get up right away, instead grabbing her phone, rolling over, and starting to scroll.
The number one trending topic was a post about "The Card Tavern," along with news that a massive number of players were flooding into Drenfall.
At the same time, housing prices in Drenfall skyrocketed. The prices of gold and jade were also soaring, changing by the second.
This was because Perry Yates had previously stated that her tavern didn’t accept cash, but it did accept gold, jade, and gemstones.
However, Perry Yates’s peaceful morning didn’t last long before her butler was pulling her out from under the covers.
"Master, someone is downstairs. They say they want to custom-order a four-star card."
Perry Yates had told the butler to call her "Boss." The woman was obedient enough in front of others, but in private, she stubbornly insisted on calling her "Master."
After several failed attempts to correct her, Perry Yates had just let it go.
Hearing that someone wanted to order a custom four-star card, Perry Yates was instantly wide awake, all traces of her morning grogginess gone.
’A four-star card... that’s the equivalent of fifteen thousand White Cards!’
Without a second thought, Perry Yates got dressed and hurried down to the first floor.
The first floor was already crowded with people.
Some were drunk in their seats, others were chatting, and still others were lined up, waiting to exchange cards.
