Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Glacial Realm 9
Perry Yates watched as the furious players searched everywhere in the settlement. Finally, inside the largest ice house, they found the still-unconscious members of the Snow-Ox Clan.
Actually, the members of the Snow-Ox Clan weren’t completely unconscious. After all, their bodies were simply too massive.
So, while they couldn’t move, they were actually conscious—almost like being in a vegetative state.
Their minds were awake, but their bodies couldn’t move.
Therefore, they could clearly feel the pain being inflicted upon them.
The players who had personally witnessed the Snow-Ox Clan slaughtering their comrades showed the clan members no mercy.
They realized the poison probably wouldn’t be enough to kill them, so they took revenge in their own ways.
Perry Yates floated in the air, watching everything that was happening inside the room without a shred of sympathy.
’Under these circumstances, the Snow-Ox Clan members definitely won’t survive. There’s no point in me staying here anymore.’
So, she directed Claudia Vance to slowly float away.
As she traveled, she kept an eye on the ground below and started upgrading her cards. She took the White Cards from her card holder one by one, using Ascension to turn them into one-star cards before putting them back.
’These cards needed Ascension sooner or later anyway, and I have the time now.’
Besides, using Ascension to turn White Cards into one-star cards didn’t put any strain on her.
What Perry Yates didn’t notice was that not long after she left, a round hole suddenly appeared in the snow.
Immediately after, a delicate little pink nose poked out from inside.
The nose’s owner sniffed the air, seemingly trying to determine a direction.
Suddenly, the nose paused, pointing in a certain direction, then twitched forcefully twice as if to confirm.
After confirming it hadn’t misidentified the scent, the owner of the nose retracted it back into the hole and disappeared.
Meanwhile, Perry Yates floated from night until daybreak but found no trace of the Snow-Ox Clan, let alone one of their settlements.
’Though it’s possible I just didn’t spot anything because it was dark.’
Although she didn’t find the Snow-Ox Clan, Perry Yates did come across traces of many players.
These people had been lucky enough not to be found and captured by the Snow-Ox Clan, but in this frigid weather, it was only a matter of time before they collapsed.
Seeing this, Perry Yates couldn’t help but think of the clothes and food in her Space Backpack.
’The clothes are just taking up space, and I have delicious roasted meat for food. Plus, with so many unopened treasure boxes, I’m not short on supplies either.’
So, whenever she encountered a player, she would use her vines to send them some food and clothes.
It wasn’t much, but if they rationed it, it would be enough to keep them from starving for a short while.
Watching the players thank her profusely, Perry Yates steered her cloud away, feeling quite pleased.
On the fourth day of the game, Perry Yates flew for an entire day and found absolutely nothing, which left her feeling a bit disappointed.
’A snowfield this huge can’t possibly have only two Snow-Ox Clan settlements.’
’Looks like I need a new plan. The odds of finding them by searching aimlessly are too low.’
As Perry Yates was thinking this, she had a sudden idea. The Snow-Ox Clan captured players for treasure boxes, so couldn’t she just find a treasure box location and lie in wait?
No sooner said than done. She had actually spotted quite a few treasure box locations along her journey, but she hadn’t gone down to dig any of them up.
For one thing, the experience of being captured before had left her quite shaken.
Every time she thought about going down, the voices of the Snow-Ox Clan from that day would involuntarily ring in her ears.
For another, compared to finding treasure boxes by herself, wouldn’t finding a Snow-Ox Clan settlement be a much more efficient, all-in-one solution?
’Not only would I save myself the trouble of searching, but I could also skip the process of opening them. I would just need to swoop in and reap the rewards.’
With this in mind, after some searching, she found a place that likely concealed a high-level treasure box.
Perry Yates looked at the light emanating from beneath the snow; it was golden with a hint of red.
It was very similar to the box used for storing cards that she had found in the last settlement.
In the previous two settlements combined, only one such treasure box had appeared, which was a testament to how precious it was.
Perry Yates waited in that spot from morning until noon. Just as she was wondering whether she should keep waiting, a dark figure suddenly appeared in the distance, rapidly approaching her location.
’Here it comes! It’s here!’
Perry Yates quickly put away the card in her hand, her eyes fixed excitedly on the dark figure in the distance.
The figure was holding a fully equipped player in its hand.
With the speed of a Snow-Ox, it reached the treasure box’s location in no time.
The Snow-Ox put the player down and gestured with its eyes for him to begin.
With a fawning smile in his eyes, the player began to dig with his bare hands.
After digging through the thick layer of snow for a dozen or so minutes, the player lifted up a treasure box that glowed with a golden-red light.
The moment it saw the treasure box, the Snow-Ox’s brow furrowed.
Perry Yates had guessed correctly; there were different tiers among treasure boxes.
The higher the tier of the box, the better the items inside.
But "better" in this case was from a player’s perspective.
And what was considered a good item for players? Without a doubt, it was cards.
But for the Snow-Ox Clan, cards were the most useless items. After all, they couldn’t assimilate them, and they certainly couldn’t just discard them carelessly.
If a player were to pick one up and absorb it, the Snow-Ox Clan would be the ones to suffer the consequences.
Something similar had happened in the past. A "tamed" player, after accidentally finding a card, had proceeded to kill every single member of the Snow-Ox Clan in his settlement.
After that incident, they became extremely strict about managing cards, ensuring that players could never touch them.
In fact, the Snow-Ox Clan’s favorite types were Bronze and Silver Treasure Chests. Bronze Treasure Chests could yield large amounts of food, while Silver Treasure Chests could produce plenty of clothes and animal hides.
A golden-red treasure box like this one had a very high probability of containing cards, and they were usually Advanced Cards.
According to their rules, high-level treasure boxes could only be opened inside a settlement.
So, upon seeing that it was a golden-red treasure box, the Snow-Ox took down a bag that was hanging from its waist.
It held the mouth of the bag open, signaling the player to quickly put the box inside.
The player offered no resistance, obediently placing the treasure box inside.
From Perry Yates’s vantage point, she could clearly see that besides the golden-red treasure box that was just put in, the bag already contained many other types of treasure boxes.
