Chapter 57: Chapter 57: That Building... It’s Not Yours, Is It?

After Bai Zhi and the others finished eating, they rested for a bit. Xiang Ling slowly got to her feet, clutching her stomach. "I have to go," she said. "I still need to drop by the company."

After just one meal, Xing Fan and Xiang Ling had already become fast friends. He eyed her stomach and teased, "What’s the rush? Is it something important? If not, you should rest a little longer. I’m worried that if you go out now, people will think you’re pregnant with a cub."

Xiang Ling replied, "It’s kind of important. The owner of our office building suddenly changed, so I need to contact them about re-signing our contract. And if I really did have a cub, my Beast Husbands would be over the moon."

As she spoke, Xiang Ling covered her mouth and giggled.

Due to the severe pollution in the Interstellar Beast World, it was very difficult for Beastmen to have children. Some couples were married for many years without a single child.

That was why Xiang Ling said her Beast Husbands would be so ecstatic if she were to have a cub.

The birth rate in this world was extremely low, which was one reason a female had multiple Beast Husbands. With enough tireless effort, the thinking went, a child was bound to be conceived.

Bai Zhi hadn’t paid much attention at first. It was only when she heard about the building changing owners that she remembered. ’Didn’t I get some building that I haven’t had a chance to see yet?’

’I just got a building, and Xiang Ling’s company building just so happens to have a new owner?’

’The building Xiang Ling is talking about couldn’t possibly be mine, could it?’

Bai Zhi shook her head. ’It can’t be that much of a coincidence, can it?’

Just as she had that thought, Xiang Ling spoke up. "Alright, I can’t keep chatting with you all. If I stay any longer, I’ll end up staying for dinner before I leave."

"I wouldn’t mind," Bai Zhi said with a smile. "I made plenty. You all barely made a dent at lunch, so there’s a lot left. Why don’t you go take care of business at your company and then come back? Everything’s already on skewers. It would be a waste not to eat it."

Xiang Ling’s eyes lit up at the suggestion, but she quickly shook her head. "No, that’s a bad idea. You’ll spoil my palate. How will I ever be able to eat at those awful restaurants again!"

Xiao Yu immediately nodded in agreement. "Exactly! Now that I’ve eaten something this delicious, how can I ever go back to those other restaurants? I never thought they were that bad before, but after tasting your cooking, Bai Zhi... what am I supposed to do now?!"

Hearing this, the gears in Xiang Ling’s head started turning. "Bai Zhi, have you ever considered opening a restaurant? I can provide all the funding!"

The moment the words left her mouth, she realized Bai Zhi probably didn’t need her investment. Her tone immediately shifted, and she clasped her hands together pleadingly. "Then again, you’re probably not short on cash, so you could just open it yourself! Or we could go in on it together! The point is, whether I fund it, you fund it, or we do it together, just please open one! I’m begging you! Otherwise, what will become of me?!"

Xiao Yu’s eyes lit up. "That could totally work! I can have my uncle get you a space in a prime location! Xing Fan can design the interior! As long as you’re willing, we’ll take care of everything! All you need to do is provide your culinary skills!"

Xing Fan nodded. "I can do that."

Bai Zhi was taken aback. She knew the restaurants around here weren’t great, but she never imagined they’d be desperate enough to ask her to open her own restaurant just so they could get a decent meal.

"Even if I don’t open a restaurant, you can always come over whenever you feel like eating," she said.

Xiang Ling wagged her finger. "That’s different. I’d feel too awkward mooching off you every day. But a restaurant? I could go there for every single meal!"

Bai Zhi offered, "I could also teach you my methods. You could have your own people learn from me."

Xiang Ling rejected the idea without a second thought. "Absolutely not. We may be friends, but you have no idea what a game-changer a talent like yours is on Blue Star. If you don’t want to do the hands-on cooking and you trust us, we can go in on it together. You take a fifty percent stake, and the three of us will split the rest."

"I guarantee you, if you agree, none of the other restaurants out there will stand a chance. I’m confident I can make it the number one restaurant on Blue Star!"

Xing Fan chimed in, "And for the decor, I can open up my personal storeroom. It’s full of treasures I’ve collected from all over the place over the years."

With that, the three of them began chattering away, discussing how to market it, how to decorate it, when to open, and even started brainstorming names.

Then, the three of them turned in unison to look at Bai Zhi with wide, expectant eyes.

Bai Zhi hesitated under their combined gazes. They had already thought of everything. It seemed like it would be rude to refuse at this point.

She could only relent. "Alright, then. Let me know once you’ve figured out the details. I only have one condition: all the ingredients used each day must be personally inspected by me."

The three of them looked at Bai Zhi and said in unison, "No problem!"

"Of course," Xiang Ling said. "That’s a given."

Many chefs had their own particular preferences, from their personal knives and the arrangement of their workspace to the freshness of the ingredients.

There was one more thing Xiang Ling didn’t mention. Unlike Xiao Yu and Xing Fan, she suspected Bai Zhi had a Purification Ability. After all, to be able to treat ingredients so perfectly that not a trace of impurity remained, who else could it be but an Advanced Purification Master?

But she was tactful enough not to say it out loud.

Xiang Ling promptly created a group chat and added them all. She glanced at the time and said in a rush, "I have to head to the company now. We’ll have a proper chat about this later."

Speaking of the company, Bai Zhi thought for a moment before deciding to ask, "What’s your company’s name? And what building is it in?"

’It’s just a question, after all,’ she thought. ’No harm in asking.’

Xiang Ling replied, "Blueray Technologies. We’re in the Sanrui Building on Central Street. If you guys ever want to buy any smart products, just let me know. I’ll give them to you."

Hearing this, Bai Zhi glanced at the information about the building her system had rewarded her. The corner of her eye twitched. It really was the same building!

’And I’m the new owner Xiang Ling needs to find...’

After saying her piece, Xiang Ling prepared to leave.

Bai Zhi sighed. "You don’t have to go."

Xiang Ling hadn’t even processed it yet, but Xing Fan and Xiao Yu, who had a better sense of Bai Zhi’s financial situation, exchanged a glance. "That building... it’s not yours, is it?"

Bai Zhi blinked. "If it’s the Sanrui Building on Central Street, like Xiang Ling said... then I guess it is?"

Bai Zhi could practically read the thought in Xiao Yu’s eyes: ’I knew it! You’re a secret rich girl!’

Bai Zhi felt a bit helpless. ’Just one day ago, I wasn’t rich, I was in the red!’

’Though now, I guess I really could be considered a little rich girl.’

Xiang Ling stared at Bai Zhi in shock. "I can’t believe the owner I was looking for is you! You just watched me, with my stomach sticking out like this, talking about going to meet you, and you didn’t say a word about the building being yours!"

Bai Zhi blinked innocently. "You didn’t say you were going to the Sanrui Building on Central Street... and I really didn’t think it would be such a coincidence..."

Xiang Ling was speechless. That was, in fact, true.

Meanwhile, outside the Grand Domain Estate, four or five shady-looking Beastmen were loitering about. They kept peeking toward the building, sizing something up inside, before quickly ducking back out of sight.
