Chapter 312: Fights in the Fort

Violet flew above the collapsing fort, staring at the main keep where her breath attack had utterly destroyed its structural integrity.

It was quite the satisfying experience being able to so easily destroy what was likely considered a strong defensive structure. She chuckled to herself over the ease upon which her void mana so effortlessly tore through defensive magics.

Then she chuckled again as she watched a swarm of dragons descend on the fort with all the corordination of a pack of wild beasts.

That chuckle however, sent shivers down the spines of those young dragons nearby that could hear it. Over the past few weeks they had been thought by Violet, Luna and Andrea.

Whilst Andrea and Luna seemed to prefer a gentle approach when dealing with the young ones, Violet, well Violet seemed to be a strong believer in tough love.

She would teach the dragons what they needed to survive, yet some of her methods could be considered... creative.

For example when passing over a nest of giant spiders she had unceremoniously thrown half a dozen of the young dragons right into the centre of the nest.

It was obviously a complete coincidence that those dragons had been acting up and not paying attention to her lessons the previous day. Totally a coincidence and not at all a planned form of petty revenge.

And the fact that similar occurrences happened multiple times was surely only poor luck on those dragons that suffered through this ’intensive survival training’ as Violet liked to call it.

The reason for Violet’s current dark chuckle was due to what Violet had tried to drill into the heads of those dragons right before the assault had happened.

She had told them, in no uncertain terms that they were to act as a team, not as individuals for the upcoming fight. So when she saw the young ones rush headlong into battle with no regard for teamwork she was understandably frustrated.

Still she could use this as a training moment, she simply had to hold back on helping the dragons that got themselves into trouble. So long as they didn’t die, Luna could get them back into working order without much trouble.

With that in mind she quickly informed Luna of her plan and set about focusing on a more passive approach for this battle.

She stayed airborn, flying over the battleground, she kept track of the various battles taking place, always ready to jump into action at a moments notice.

Noel was excited! She had been traveling with the terrifying yet awesome big sisters for a couple of weeks now, yet she had never had as much fun in her entire life as she was currently having.

She had been trained how to fight, been allowed to grow in power to her hearts content and got to eat some really tasty treats!

Now they had been entrusted to help their big sisters in taking down an entire fort! She was ecstatic and could hardly contain her excitement.

So it was that after the opening salvo launched by Violet and Luna she had rushed right into the thick of the fighting. She had not wanted to wait for the rest of the dragons to arrive, believing that they would only slow her down.

Not even Sylus, that slippery overgrown snake could keep up with her!

She she arrived first, descending down upon a stunned cluster of guards with reckless abandon. She landed on one man, her claws tearing through his flimsy leather armour and managing to tear off one of his arms.

His body crunched to the ground under her weight, his head smashing into the ground with a sickening crunch.

Particles of rock began to grow along her scales, reinforcing her natural armour as she looked up and met the momentarily stunned gaze of the remaining 3 guards.

She let out a roar and instantly pounced towards the nearest guard. She bit down on the man’s head, his helm doing little to blunt the bite and soon he too joined the first guard as his lifeless body collapsed to the ground.

By then the other two had regained their composure. They had drawn their weapons and turned to properly face her, yet Noel did not fear these two men, what could they hope to do against her with her sturdy defences?

So she unhesitantly charged once again. Only this time her leap was intercepted by a ball of fire that formed besides one guard and shot towards her with incredible speed.

The ball exploded upon contact and Noel was set flying back several meters, she came to a stop and grunted in pain as her rocky armour had absorbed the heat but was now scalding her scales.

She hurriedly dismissed her armour to get rid of the burning rock. Then she was forced into a desperate dodge as the second guard dove in, his sword swinging down to remove her head.

Noel avoided the worst of the attack yet the sword still sliced through her scales on her shoulder and left a nasty wound in its place.

Her tail lashed out to try and slow down the swordsman, yet her senses screamed at her and she was forced to dive to the side as an arrow flew at her from an unknown location. Then more arrows fired towards her, she raced around, frantically dodging arrows and spells fired at her from range.

All the while the swordsman chased her down, never allowing her even a moment of rest. Noel looked up in the sky at the circling violet, wondering why she had not come to help.

Yet her eyes instantly met with Violet’s own and she felt a mental bridge snap into place for the briefest of moments. During that time a memory was sent to her, the memory of what Violet had told the dragons to do during this assult.

The memory of Violet explicitly telling the dragons that they needed to work together else they would be overwhelmed by teamwork.

And was that not the exact situation that Noel had found herself in? She inwardly cursed her earlier arrogance as she desperately wove between the well co-ordinated attacks of the trained guards as they slowly got closer and closer to pining her down.

She couldn’t even launch any retaliatory attacks, simply surviving was taking all of her focus.

Noel continued running, gliding and dodging around, desperately looking for some way for her to survive this. Wounds built up, small scratches for the most part, yet some more significant injuries were quickly building up.

Then the inevitable happened. She found herself trapped in a corner, surrounded on all sides with half a dozen guards surrounding her. Her mind raced, looking for any avenue of escape, any chance that she had to survive this unmitigated disaster of her own making.

Then Noel heard a roar, an all too familiar roar that she would recognise anywhere.

A flash of yellow flew by overhead, swiftly followed by the scream of pain from one of the mage guards as he found his head drenched in potent acid that began eating away at his flesh at an alarming pace.

That momentairy distraction caused by the man’s scream allowed for Noel to escape the encirclement and even managed to land a lethal claw swipe against another guard.

Then the flash of yellow reappeared once again, this time two guards standing besides one another were drenched in acid. Their combined screams working as the turning point for Noel as she was finally able to turn the tides.

By the time that the last of those guards fell Noel was panting with exertion and pain, blood ran down her body from her numerous wounds. Yet she did not allow herself to be stationary just yet, she had been saved by that slimy Sylus, so how could she in turn not go and assist her fellows.

Her eyes tracked the flying form of Sylus, naught but a yellow blur as he dashed from one battle to the other. His acid raining down constantly to provide relief for his kin.

With a snort Noel dashed off in search of dragons that she could help.

Up in the air Violet smiled faintly. She had naturally been watching Noel’s battle, whilst she was at first quite disappointed in the brown dragon for her lack of foresight. She had to give it to the girl, she was stubborn.

Their was a number of times when Violet thought she would have to intervene to protect the girl, yet she always managed to just barely survive.

Then came Sylus, she was honestly surprised that that cheeky man had been the only dragon to actually follow her orders and worked solely to protect and assist his fellow dragons.

So whilst a surprise, it was a greatly appreciated fact, one she would be sure to praise him later on for.

Violet quickly glanced over the battlefield once again, noting with some satisfaction when her kin finally began to work together. The shift in the battlefield was noticeable, slowly, the young ones began to push back.

They had quickly lost the advantage after their initial blitz almost everywhere as they fought alone, only once they began to work together did they manage to overcome the numerical advantage posed by the guards.

Finally Violet’s gaze moved over to Andrea. She was currently battling again several tier 4 guards outside of the walls, she had drawn most of the Lords out of the fort to do battle there, away from the squishy tier 3 and below dragons and guards.

Only a couple of Lords were left within the fort. They had thought themselves sneaky, hoping to pick off several of the dragons whilst they battled foes of similar strength.

Violet’s eyes narrowed whilst a ferocious grin split her face. Through her bond with Luna she spoke up.

"Hey Luna, we have some sneaky rats to deal with, do you want them or shall I take them?"

The reply came a moment later. "Hmm I’ll take them, just show me where."
