Chapter 313: Clean Up
With the information provided to her by Violet, Luna quickly moves to intercept the remaining Lords within the Fort.
Their are 3 such Lords in the Fort, yet only one of them is of any concern to Luna. The other two seem to be only just past the lvl 80 threshold, whilst the third looks to be around level 100.
Still not exactly an issue for Luna to face off against such a foe. Still if she let them run rampant these tier 4’s could cause untold damage to the young dragons in their care.
With that in mind she does not delay in rushing to find and eliminate her designated targets.
She takes a step through the void to appear right behind one of the Lords, he is currently wrapped in thick shadows. It would have been a solid stealth tactic if he had made it look even slightly realistic.
Instead of thickening the shadows in the entire area, the man simply condensed the shadows directly around him.
The effect was quite comical for Luna to see. From her point of view she could just make out a rough sphere of shadows against one wall, whilst the rest of the room he was in was mostly clear of darkness.
The man didn’t even seem to notice Luna presence, despite her not hiding herself. He did notice however when a large glave of ice cut through the darkness and severed one arm and cut deeply into his side.
He cried out in pain as he collapsed to the ground, his control over the shadows collapsing along with him due to the shock.
That just left a bloodied and disheveled looking man sprawled out before her, Luna did not waist any more time and thrust her glave forwards, the blade removed the man’s head before embedding itself into the flood beneath his corpse.
From there it did not take Luna too long to search out and eliminate the second assassin, this one fell with only a single attack.
Yet it seemed like the third and most powerful of them had noticed the death of his two comrades. Instead of staying hidden she decided to enact her plan ahead of time and rushed out into the open to try and eliminate at least some of the invading dragons.
Seeing this Luna rushed forwards, each of her steps carrying her dozens of meters at a time.
The distance between them was rapidly closing, yet the assassin was still closer to one dragon. The assassin wielded twin daggers, their edges dripping with deadly poison.
A single scratch of that would be able to kill all but the hardiest of Tier 4 beasts, let alone a human, or in this case a tier 3 dragon whelp.
The assassin appeared behind the dragon, stepping out of its very shadow.
Her blades lashed out towards the side of the beast only to bounce off a hexagonal barrier of nothing with a muted clang.
That seemed to catch the attention of the dragon who whirled around to face the foe besides him. Yet the dragon hardly had a moment to process the sudden arrival of the assassin before half a dozen spear of utter nothing impaled the woman.
A look of frozen shock remain stuck on the assassins face for a prolonged moment, right up until the spears exploded and sent her body flying in messy chunks of flesh and bone.
Luna appeared an instant later, just in time to help as she frantically dodged chunks of assassin. She glared up at Violet flying in the sky.
"Did you have to be so messy? You nearly got my all dirty!" She complained.
Violet just laughed at the look of indignation on her companions face. Meanwhile the young dragon that they had saved just looked on in surprise and confusion, not quite sure what he should do.
Sensing that Luna waved the dragon off. "Go on off you go, still plenty of guards left to fight. Just don’t go off on your own you hear!" The dragon quickly bobbed his head in agreement before darting off to go and find more of his kin to finish up the battle.
"So anyone else that we need to deal with?" Luna asked Violet after she took a moment to settle.
"Hmm not really, Andrea is doing fine, she only has a couple more tier 4’s to beat. She might need some healing once she is done though. The rest of the little ones are doing ok now that they are finally starting to work together." Violet reported dutifully, all the while her eyes never stopped scanning the battle ground, ever vigilant in case she needed to step in.
"Well that’s good then, I’ll go wait on the wall near Andrea, let me know if I’m needed anywhere else alright." Luna stated, then began to make her way through the rubble strewn mess that was the interior of the fort. Soon appearing in the mostly intact wall, there she was able to see Andrea battling against a couple of human Lords.
Around the dragon several more bodies lay sprawled out, all of them looking to have been rended by claw or vine.
The fight was definitely entering its final stages, the humans were ragged and tired. Numerous wounds littered their bodies as the ground around them seemed to be alive, vines, grasses and other plant life grew and moved with incredible speed.
Each one aimed at incapacitating one of the remaining humans.
One of the human lords remaining seemed adept at fire magic. Flames licked around the man’s feet, constantly speaking out and burning away any plants that grew to close to him.
The other wielded a bow and arrow, a near constant barrage of arrows forged from wind itself flying out at great speeds towards Andrea.
The dragon in question was suffering from countless small wounds, whilst the Lord were unable to truly finish her off they had apparently gone for the tactic of death by a thousand cuts.
The emerald dragon’s scales were died red with her blood, yet she remained fighting ferociously, not giving an inch to the last two guards standing.
The two worked together well, a solid mix of defense and offense. Yet they could not overcome a determined dragon.
It was not a speedy end the the battle, Andre’s took her time to finish them off, slowly but surely she piled on the pressure until one of them made a crucial mistake.
The fire mage failed to spot a root emerging from the ground at his feet, said root exploded upwards with devastating precision.
The hardened wood pierced into the fire mages gut, the pain causing his flames to falter just long enough for several vines to lash out at the wind archer.
The man tried to dodge out of the way, but that just sepersted him from the fire mage, that proved to be the final mistake the man made.
Andrea pounced, her claws lashing out to cut into the archer’s side. His body was sent crashing into the ground with a bone shattering crunch. The fire mage lasted but a few moments more before plant life overwhelmed him and summarily tore the man apart.
Silence reigned over that section of the battlefield for several seconds, only interrupted by the ragged breathing of Andrea as she basked in her win.
Luna took a step and appeared on Andrea’s head and spoke up with a smile. "Good fight Andrea! Let me get you all healed up."
Andrea had momentarily tensed up, ready to battle against whatever had suddenly landed on top of her head but soon relaxed once she heard Luna’s voice.
"Gosh! Don’t surprise me like that! I almost attacked you out of reflex!" The emerald dragon replied in exasperation.
Luna just chuckled at the dragons words, as ice slowly spreads over her scaled body in search of wounds to heal.
As that was happening Luna quickly filled Andrea in on the happenings outside of the fort. Informing her of the various battles being fought by the young dragons.
She listened attentively as her wounds slowly healed over. Whilst Luna’s healing skill was effective with even quite serious wounds it did lack in speed.
The ice not being the fastest to spread over a body, particularly very large bodies like that of beasts. Still it did the job well enough.
Violet meanwhile stayed airborn as she watched the young ones pick off the last of the humans.
Before long no more guards remained and Fort Dolton was officially destroyed.
[A group under your command has successfully eliminated a defensive fort without suffering any casualties. Exp rewarded.]
Violet blinked in surprise at the system message, not aware that she would gain experience just for being the proverbial commander of the arrayed forces. Still she would not turn down free experienc, in fact Violet could feel that with that boost she was only a little away from her own next level and bringing her one step closer to reaching sovereignty.
