Chapter 311: Dragons Growth

With the evolutions of the first two dragons, the rest of the young ones dove head first into combat. All of them eager to advance themselves.

This was both great and annoying.

Great as the stronger that the dragons became, the less they would need to rely on Violet, Luna and Andrea. Additionally it would enable them to fight back against the kingdom, something that Violet saw as a massive win.

Yet the continual evolutions also presented a slight issue, that being that it drastically slowed down their travel speed.

They were forced to stop more often to allow for the dragons to undergo their evolution. Then came the issue of actually transporting the now much larger beasts.

It quite quickly became too cramped for all of the adolescent dragons to fit on the platforms created for them. Yet they were also unable to match violet and Andrea’s movement speed in the air, the two adult dragons were forced to drastically slow their movement speed to allow for the adolescents to keep pace with them in the air.

Then came the fact that they were simply unable to stay airborn for prolonged periods of time. Forcing them to have to land frequently to enable to dragons to swap out who is on the platform at any given time.

All in all it was quickly becoming a headache for the 3 Lords that watched over them.

Still even with that being the case, none of them were willing to prevent the young dragons from growing in strength, all of them understood the need to continually grow more powerful.

Then came the looming threat of the kingdom.

By the time that a week had passed since their fight at Sonantis, it was almost a certainty that word of the events their had spread.

Even if no one present survived of the event to report exactly what occoured. The simple fact that the city lord and a sovereign died, whilst all of the young dragons being raised mysteriously vanished must have caused some kind of alarm to be raised.

Violet and Luna had been informed by Andrea that the kingdom used a form of magical item to be able to communicate over vast distances. So it was very likely that the death of the city lord had been reported.

The girls did not know what the response of the kingdom would be, but they were sure that it would be coming.

They simply had to constantly stay vigilant to ensure that they were not caught unaware.

Still, even with the regular stops for both battle and evolution, the group made decent progress.

By the time that the second week since leaving Sonantis passed the group was already more than three quarters of the way towards the Endless Forest.

That same time frame also marked the point at which the last of the dragons evolved into tier 2.

Now of the original 5 infant and 10 young dragons that they rescued. Only 3 were young, whilst the remaining 12 had all reached adolescence and reached tier 3.

It was a truly impressive growth speed, being able to so rapidly grow in levels. It was only thanks to the concerted efforts of the three tier 4 beings. Violet and Andrea enabled them to reach and locate plenty of suitable foes to do battle with, whilst Luna acted as their guardian during the fights and their medic that quickly patched them all up after the fact.

This combination worked as the fuel for the young ones growth.

On the eve of day 17 since their departure, the girls finally laid eyes on the towering trees that made up this section of the Endless Forest.

This section was regarded as a ’danger zone’ by the kingdom. Regarded as an area to avoid at all costs, well at least for the regular citizens and army soldiers it was.

In reality this was an area with particularly high ambient mana, enough so that the entire section of forest was filled with tier 4 beasts.

This would undoubtedly prove to be a dangerous area to enter into the forest at. Yet it held two distinct advantages for the girls.

The first was that the kingdom did not house any significant population centers near this location. They instead only housed remote military outposts to prevent beast hordes from delving into the heartlands of the kingdom.

The second benefit was actually more selfish for Violet and Luna. That being that it was the perfect location for them to grow in power.

An abundance of tier 4 beasts, each one likely surrounded by numerous weaker beasts.

It was perfect for refining both their own strength and that of the young dragons. They would simply have to be carefull and ensure that the young ones did not venture too far away from them.

But before they reached the forest, the girls wanted to gift the kingdom with one final send off before they left their lands.

Paul yawned as he cupped his cup of hot tea whilst staring out from the walls of the isolated Fort Dolton. His job this evening was to stand on the western side of the fort, above the gate and keep a lookout for whatever may approach from this direction.

That usually meant arriving supply convoys or reinforcements from the kingdom. Yet those occoured on a regular schedule, so during the time inbetween this post was normally quite uneventful.

At least on the east side of the fort he would be able to try and spot the roaving figures of wandering beasts in the nearby forest. In this side he just got to stare at flat grasslands on no major import.

He let out a sigh as he cupped his hot tea, savouring the aroma and the fleeting warmth that temporarily drove away the chill winds of the evening.

The sun was just about to begin setting, the sky was painted with the glorious oranges that painted both the sky and clouds above.

Paul always enjoyed this time of the night. Everything seemed so serene, no attacks came at this time, the beasts always opting to either attack in the night or during full daylight.

So it came as some surprise when he spotted something glimmer in the sky.

Growing he focused in on the spot in the sky that he saw the glimmer, wondering what could have caused it. At first he could not make out what it was, yet soon his frown only grew as he finally realised what was causing the glimmer.

He recognised that shape, flying high in the sky with glittering scales, the silhouette of a dragon was not something that one easily forgot after all.

Yet as he focused in on that spot in the sky he grew confused. Why was a flight of dragons heading this way? He had not heard reports of any dragon riders being dispatched here, all riders and their dragons were heading into the endless forest along with the main army from what he knew.

Yet in the air above he managed to make out 16 flying shapes. Only one of which appeared to be a Lord level beast, the rest matching the size of a tier 3 beast at most.

That was unusual, dragon riders were only dispatched once their beasts reached tier 4. All tier 3 beasts were kept near the capital to be trained.

So what were these beasts doing here?

He decided that this was above his pay grade and rushed over to inform one of his superiors about the approaching dragons.

He soon located his Sargent and had just begun pointing them out to him when a shadow suddenly fell over the section of wall he and the Sargent stood atop.

They looked up and saw a void in space in the shape of a dragon.

It’s onyx scales perfectly hid it from view against the darkening sky. It flew above the fort, circling as if assessing them.

Then the dragon roared and its presence was entirely unfurled.

Both Paul and his Sargent were Lords. He was only just past level 80 but his captain was past level 100. Both of them were familiar with powerful presences, yet what they felt at that moment shook them to their core.

It was terrifying, overpowering both of them and leaving them shaking in their boots as they stared up at the dark dragon above them.

Then they saw a figure leap off the back of the dragon and fall towards the section of wall they stood atop. For a moment Paul was relieved, thinking that the presence was just a scare tactic.

Then a flash of blue white light engulfed the figure, when he next looked up his eyes widened in fright as a massive white furred beast descended down atop them. He hurriedly activated a defensive skill, a barrier of water appearing before him and the Sargent.

Yet to his horror that shield shattered from the impact of the beast on the wall alone.

Then the world turned purple and an almighty explosion rocked the world. He turned his head and saw the central keep begin to collapse.

Panic overtook Paul at the time as he looked up to see remenants of purple power displaying from the onyx dragon above.

Then the white beast overtook his vision with one paw raised as deadly claws of ice formed on them.

The last thing that Paul thought was that he wished he had finished his tea. Then the world went black and Paul was no more.
