Chapter 302: Fight at the Farm (5)
A deafening roar shook the ground as the red dragon charged towards Violet once again, flames wreathing the ruby scales of the behemoth and the ground erupting into deep furrows as the beasts claws tore through the flimsy soil.
Yet even with the beast charging Violet did not move to escape, instead she stood her ground. Her body was positively radiating both mana and power, her limit break pushing her body beyond what it was supposed to be able to handle.
When the dragon got within range Violet moved like a blur. She twisted her body whilst tensing her tail, the very air itself cracked as the long limb whipped forth at incredible speeds.
CRACK! BOOM!
Her tail smashed into the side of the reds face with a resounding crack that shattered what little glass remained while in the nearby buildings. Then the reds body was launched to the side, colliding with the remains of the building they had just recently barreled through.
Violet did not stop with just that one attack though. She had grown to understand the sturdiness of this beast and understood that that hit, whilst effective would at beast only momentarily leave it stunned. If she wanted to truly deal with this beast then she would need a more permanent solution.
She had already tried to establish a mental link to talk to the beast, yet no coherent thoughts passed through, only rage and madness. It hurt to consider but Violet knew instinctively that this dragon was a lost cause, the only relief that could be granted to him would be death.
With that knowlage burning though her mind Violet began to work her magic.
With her enhanced multicast she split her magical attention three ways. One focused on immediate damage and containment, this stream would focus on launching spears and beams to hinder and harm the beast, she knew that this alone would not be capable of killing the dragon before her but it was necessary to delay it enough for her true finisher to come to fruition.
Her second mental stream was to focus entirely on forging runes. Purple line of nothingness began to etch themselves into the ground around both her and the red. They took new forms unlike what she had previously used before now.
Whilst Violet was in the city and was spreading absurd amount of money, she had come across a tomb that detailed runic magic and how it can be utilised. She had spent some time studying this tomb, reinforcing the knowlage that she had learnt from Val whilst on the dungeon expedition.
The runes that now covered the ground were more than simple spears or shields. Now they covered a wide range of utility that she hoped would prove useful, granted she was cautious about the effectiveness of these new runes given the destructive nature of her void mana. But, what better chance would she get to find out then when fighting against a powerful but simple foe like this?
Finally her third mental stream was focused on her void cannon. It was her most potent attack just behind her breath, but given her recent study of runes she wanted to see how far she could push this skill whilst in a combat situation.
She had already experienced the potency of this attack when she destroyed the gates earlier. However, she had only cast the basic version of the spell then, with some overcharge to ensure it fulfilled it’s purpose.
So above and behind violet a massive magical circle began to etch itself into reality. Dozens, then hundreds of runes began to form in tight concentric circles, each one brimming with untapped power.
Her mind was being strained yet that only excited her all the more. It had been some time since she last had the opportunity to truly go all out and she was eager to see just how far she had improved since the last time she fully pushed herself.
The red dragon erupted from the debris of the ruined building with a growl. It’s bestial eyes locking onto the source of its anger instantly.
It took a step forward, its foot landing directly into a rune that flashed with purple light.
The ground beneath the rune was erased, the foot plunging into the ground and toppling the beast over with a surprised yowl of indignation.
As it fell spears of void rushed through the air to stab into its exposed flank.
The spears punctured through the reinforced scales, the flickering flames around its body not able to erode the force behind the spears enough to halt the attack.
Each individual spear did not puncture too deeply, only a few inches at a time. Yet when the detonated a good chunk of scales and flesh were removed, providing an opening through which Violet could inflict greater harm.
The red did not allow itself to stay down for long. It tore its leg out of the hole and roared in defiance at the approaching spears. It reared back slightly and flapped his powerful wings.
As he did so two swirling steams of fire rushed forwards towards Violet, she instantly reacted.
Spears shot directly into the twisted stream of flame, yet they did little not no impact. So she resorted to summoning her segmented shields to block.
Violet layered the shields 3 times to be safe, yet that was not enough.
The heat of these flames melted the ground they talked across, her first shield shattering before the flames even touched it. The second shield burst upon contact whilst the third lasted only for a heartbeat longer before it too burnt into nothingness.
Having her shield broken so easily stunned Violet for a moment, that delay proving to be costly as the flames reached her then.
The heat hit her first.
Scorching fire that burnt the very air itself impacted the void dragon. Her void shell only providing momentary succor before the true flames landed.
Her scales changed from purple to red, then they cracked before breaking fully.
Red hot pain lanced across her side where the flames hit, she felt like her very existence was being burned away from the shear intensity of the flames assulting her.
She was almost overwhelmed by the pain before she managed to blink away. Yet even that did not allow her to fully escape.
The heat from those magical flames was more than simple physical, it was almost conceptual. Even whilst her body was in the strange liminal space she went to during her blinks she still felt the flames scour her very soul.
When Violet returned to reality she felt like she had just been sent through the wringer. Her body hurt, her soul hurt and her pride hurt.
Yet she would not allow that to keep her down.
A dozen runes flashed to life around the red dragon. A multitude of effects happened instantly.
Chains of void snapped out to lash onto his wings and legs, binding him in place as the void ate away at the magic surrounding him. Runes flashed into existence on his scales, the piled with purple light as they greedily began to drain away his mana, feeding the drained magic back into the chains to empower them.
At the same time Violet herself released a barrage of spears and beams to rake across the beasts hide. She aimed the spears when possible into already exposed part of his hide, the beams however she focused on his head to see if she could remove or wound one of his eyes.
The dragon roared in fury at being contained, his muscles strained against the magical bindings, the air around him flaring in temperature as his mana surged.
The ground beneath him turned to glass and the void chains showed signs of cracking. Still they held, for now.
More spears flew forth as Violet slowly paced around the wbound beast. Each attack chipping away just that little bit extra from his defence and health.
As this was happening Violet was pondering her limit break skill. It was a truly amazing ability, her mana had never flowed more smoothly, her spells formed faster and her movemrnts felt fluid.
She was excited to discover more about this wonderous ability as time progressed. It just might not be against the red dragon before her as her void cannon was finally ready to fire.
The last rune etched itself into reality. A thrum of mana echoed out across the world around the two dragons.
The red noticed this, even through his maddened mind it understood the danger that the working of magic before it was a serious threat. It struggled fiercely to try and escape its chains if void.
Yet how could a beast that had already refused to throw away its chance at freedom ever hope to remove chains bound to it by Violet herself.
The world turned purple once again, the sound of shattering glsss rang out as a massive beam of utter destruction linked Violet to the red dragon.
A 3 meter wide beam of nothingness charged straight at and straight through the red standing before her.
A crackling hole emerged that punched right through the dragon. It remained standing for a moment, then it collapsed to the ground, dead.
