Chapter 303: Fight at the Farm (6)

The courtyard of the Beast Emporium had turned into a war zone reminiscent of the space outside of the walls.

The guards numbered in the hundreds, a truly impressive amount of forces to defend the place, although given the inate value of what is raised here it is quite understandable. That and given the fact that several high ranking nobles and the city lord herself would be in attendance today it made sense why the security was so high.

Saddly that now posed a serious risk to the now freed slaves and dragons. Both freed peoples were without question weak.

All of them were below level 40, with the sole exception of a singular slave that couldn’t be higher than level 50. So whilst the escapees held the advantage in numbers, with the slaves numbering well over 200 and the dragons numbering in the low hundreds.

They severely lacked when it came to power and skill.

The guards were all tier 3 at the minimum with dozens of tier 4’s, their was obviously the personal guard of the city lord at tier 5 but he was preoccupied with the sovereign Steelclaw outside of the walls. Additionally the vast majority of the tier 4 guards were also battling against the beast hoard rushing towards the sundered gates.

Still even with that fact the freed slaves were not in a good position. Close to 80 tier 3 guards had rushed over to pen them in, led by two tier 4 guard captains.

That was the situation that Andrea found herself in. She alone was able to fend off the bulk of the guards, yet the restricts bound into her very soul with the bond of servitude disavowed her from truly taking action against the guards. She found herself restricted to simply playing defence. Unable to lash out at those that she so dearly wanted to harm.

Still that alone was enough for now. It allowed her to just barely hold off the attacks, able to coral the freed slaves into one section of the compound and put herself inbetween the guards and the former slaves.

Still her position was untenable. And if something did not change soon she was unsure how long she would be able to hold out.

**

The blade of blue yellow power sliced through yet another of Luna’s frozen illusions, Luna herself only barely being able to avoid the deadly blade.

Luna failed to hide the wide grin that adorned her face as she bent at a near impossible angle whilst the sword she wielded extended into a spear and stabbed directly into the woman’s abdomen.

Whilst her spear failed to pierce the city lords defence, due to the shear force behind the attack she was still sent staggering back, her ballence thrown slightly off. That slight stagger allowed Luna to close in and put the pressure on the woman before her.

Yet the city lord was no easy foe. Her magic was truly impressive, it acted as a near impenetrable fortress, causing the woman behind those blue yellow plates to be able to nearly entirely disregard defense in favour of focusing almost entirely on offence.

That coupled with her impressive swordsmanship allowed her to truly hold her own with the best of them.

Her fighting style was unlike anything Luna had faced before. Luna worked as a evasive fighter, utilising her impressive speed coupled with her illusions and deceptive footwork to confuse and elude her foes whilst she steadily built up stacks of her chain strike skill.

Her chain strike was her true hidden ace in fights, for every attack she landed her hits would deal just a tiny bit more damage, this effect stacked, allowing her to eventually pierce even the sturdiest of defences.

Yet it was quickly apparent that Luna had finally met a counter to her skill.

For apparently landing an attack against a magical construct did not count towards building up stacks of her chain strike. Thankfully she had already built up some stacks when she had taken out several of the guards that once aided the Lord. Still those metre stacks were soon about to degrading, lowering her damage and creating potential issues for finishing off her foe.

Still that alone would not be enough to dissuade Luna, if anything discovering a potential weakness of her fighting style only excited the Arctic leopard. It proved that she still had room to grow, room to improve.

So Luna knew that she had to change things up slightly, she just needed to figure out how she should change things up.

Her spear shrank and then split into twin swords as Luna parried a thrust of arcane mana, her sword crackled with the impact yet the small cracks instantly froze over under the unrelenting cold being emitted from Luna’s body and Arctic pseudo domain.

For whilst the city lord possessed a neigh impenetrable defence with an impressive ability to attack. She did lack any true means of controlling a battlefield, and that, now that was where Luna truly excelled.

Luna took a step.

She left behind an illusion that evaded the rapid swings of the city lord. Luna meanwhile appeared in the midst of a clump of guards that were gathering to take down the escaped slaves and dragons.

Her illusions formed around her, their weapons already in mid motion to cut down those that were attacking the beleaguered former slaves.

She instantly took out the two tier 4 guards, leaving the remaining tier 3’s to have to pick up the slack.

Then she took a step again and reappeared behind the city lord.

Meanwhile her illusions focused on the guards. They did not go for the quick kills that they could have against such weak foes.

Instead they focused on death by a thousand cuts. They wielded twin daggers and swords, focusing on making small cuts and glancing blows. All in the aid of building up stacks of her chain strike.

Already Luna could feel the difference, her attacks hit harder, each one now leaving small scratches in the blue yellow force armour.

Yet those cuts were swiftly filled in with new arcane mana that constantly swirled around the city lord.

Pillars of blue yellow emerge formed around the Lord, shooting down towards Luna. She wove between the deadly pillars with enviable ease her Arctic domain growing colder and colder as time slowly passed.

The arcane blade thrust forwards once again, its edge extending at the last minute leaving Luna no time to avoid the blow, a fresh cut sliced through her side, scraping along her ribs and drawing a grasp from her and sending her staggering back as a fresh wave of attacks were launched her way.

She took another step, now to the city lords side her swords changed into a mighty hammer that swung down onto the knee of the city Lord. A satisfying crunch rang out from the impact.

Whilst the armour did not break, merely buckling slightly. The leg underneath the armour was much more pliable.

A scream escaped from the city lord as her knee was broken apart, only held in place due to the arcane armour that she wore. Still that blow alone severely restricted the woman’s mobility and left her reeling from the pain.

Luna grinned.

Her chain strike stacks continued to build, one of her illusions had already shattered and another was soon to follow so she knew that she did not have much time left to continue before her advantage turned sour.

With that in mind she slid back slightly as she took in a deep breath.

The world around her dropped in temperature once again, everything began to freeze.

Even time itself.

The smooth movements of the city lord ground to a halt as a moment in time froze, everyone one and everything within the bubble of eternal cold froze, everyone except for Luna.

She did not waste a moment, she could already feel the truly staggering amount of mana that the skill cost draining out of her like a raging river.

She would not have long in this eternal moment, she would have to make every strike count.

Lina moved forwards, her hammer raised as she landed a heavy blow on the city lords lead arms shoulder. The snapping of bone did not ring out, the woman did not move, yet Luna knew her strike was successful.

She swung again and again, each blow targeting a limb of the woman, each blow deadline more and more damage to the flesh and bone beneath her impenetrable armour.

Then when Luna felt like her mana was about to gutter out she released hold her her frozen moment and allowed time to once more assert its influence on the area.

Then the city lord screamed.

Every bone in the limbs shattered in a moment, from her point of view she had just suffered her knee being broken, then her foe backed off, the next moment her everything was broken and she collapsed to the ground in a screaming heap. Her mana fled her control and her armour dissipated.

That was the last action she ever took as a moment later a giant hammer made of Arctic ice slammed down on her exposed head with a crunch.
