Chapter 299: Fight at the Farm (2)
The tenor of battle momentarily halted with the return of both colour and sound, all eyes turning to bare witness to the utter destruction of the gates that promised safety to those within its walls.
Yet with a single move that illusion of safety had been irrevocably shattered.
Some of the defenders looked around in a panic, desperately searching for the source of the attack, yet one pair of eyes instantly locked onto her. Amber orbs gleamed as the Lord of Sonantis looked towards Violet with barely restrained fury.
A growl escaped her lips as her voice effortlessly carried the intervening distance between them.
"What is the meaning of this treachery! Do you plan to invite death to us all? Your actions will not go unpunished!"
Violet let out a short, sharp bark of a laugh. Her lips curling into a vicious grin. "Oh but you shalnt be around to remember, my Lady." As she spoke Violet gave a mock curtsy towards the fuming city lord. Then with an even wider grin adorning her face she leapt into the air and a violet glow enveloped her body as she transformed back to her true form.
When Jasmin was able to see again after yet another flash of purple light her eyes nearly popped out of her head as she stared at the sight before her in both horror and confusion.
She had grown up raising dragons, she thought that she knew everything that their was to know about the once noble race. She had bent them to her will, moulded them into tools of war and status.
Jasmin thought that she understood their nature, that of a fairly intelligent beast, but only intelligent when compared to other beasts. Even then, they were nothing when compared to humans, not even beastkin for that matter.
Yet that their was her folly, for she had only ever met those dragons that had been beaten and broken over long years of servitude. Even then, with a bonded dragon of her own she had never spoken to it, or rather it had never talked back to her, and her Andrea was considered to be quite intelligent by dragon standards.
The truth of the matter was, that Jasmin had never imagined that dragons could be anything more than slightly above average beasts capable of flight and some small magic.
Yet before her she bore witness to a entirely diffferent breed of beast.
The large purple and onyx dragon now standing before her was nothing like any other dragon that she had ever witnessed. It, no, she, radiated power, intellect and confidence unlike any she had witnessed before.
Made all the worse by the fact that she had spoken to this woman, interacted with her, investigated her. Yet she had not known, could not have know that the strange and wealthy beastkin was in fact a dragon.
Jasmins eyes narrowed as disparate pieces of information collated together. She remembered the system announcement some time ago stating the birth of the wild dragon, the last true dragon as the rumors had stated. Could this violet be that dragon?
Then came the second realisation as she remembered the devastating magical attack that had just erased her heavily reinforced gate but a few moments ago. Hadn’t that wild dragon evolved into a void dragon?
She did not know what the void was, but... her eyes flickered to the scene of devastation left behind of the attack, in particular the seeming void left behind in the beams wake. Her gaze snapped back to the purple dragon before her as her suspicions crystalised.
Jasmin stood straight, her voice regaining her regal poise as she spoke. "So you are the rumored Wild Dragon that everyone has heard so much about. To think that you would show your face here of all places. Well it does not matter, for I shall defeat you this day and deliver you to the king myself, be that alive or dead, it matters not to me."
Then her voice projected out, loud and clear whilst being interwoven by magic. "My pets, assemble and capture the beast before me."
The sounds of rattling chains could be heard, followed by muffled shouts of alarm and the thud of heavy footfalls racing closer. Violet turned her head to look about, interested in seeing what exactly this vile woman was planning.
Yet when she saw what was heading her way her heart grew cold, her tail lashed out behind her, partially destroying a nearby building and her anger threatened to overwhelmed her.
For what was running towards her was not something that Violet had any intention of killing.
Dragons, dragons and slaves moved out in reluctant steps. Golden runes blazing with power on the collars around their necks as the magic imbued into them overrode any will of their own, compelling them to abide by Jasmins orders.
Violet snarled. Her mental voice blasting out to all around, cold, menacing and full of the promos of violence. "You dare send dragons after me? With your vile magics being the only thing enabling you to do so? How laughable."
Jasmin sneered at the dragon standing some distance away from her, even with Jasmin standing atop the wall she was not much taller than Violet, still she used that slight height advantage to look down upon Violet with all of her mistaken power and pomp.
That smirk however, faltered when Violet unleashed her presence and draconic aura.
It surged forth with unstoppable momentum. The sovereign on the walls unable to pay it any heed as his entire being was focused on dealing with the attacking sovereign outside of the gates.
Violet’s presence washed over almost half of the compound within the walls, wherever it passed people grew stiff. Yet it was the dragons present that were truly effected the most.
Dull eyes that had been bereft of any will suddenly blazed to life as their bodies instinctively froze. The compulsions that had bound them so long suddenly fell lax as instincts they had been denied all their short lives suddenly blazed to life.
Almost every dragon present came to a screaming halt. All eyes locked onto the regal dragon that towered over them and emitted such an overwhelming presence. The young dragons found themselves lowering their heads in unconditional surrender, unable to deny the instincts that screamed at them to submit to the might of the being standing before them.
For all dragons present could tell, that the dragon standing before them was unlike any dragon they had ever seen before.
Violet stood still as her presence and aura washed out around her, she felt the confusion and reverence of those young dragons around her. Confusion over their conflicting emotions, yet reverence as they gazed upon the apex of their species, gazed upon one who thrummed with the wilds to such a degree that their own nascent affinity with the wilds bubbles up to the surface.
It was to that scene that Violet spoke once again, her voice contained the authority of a ruler, a Lord, a sovereign of a species. "This is what happens when you send children to fight pathetic human. We are dragons, I do not bow to any being, I do not recognise your authority. I challenge it and deny it."
With that Violet let loose a ground shaking roar, the nearby buildings rattled and shook, soilders in the wall stumbled in place and Jasmin’s face paled.
It was then that something no one expected to happen occoured.
[Local Announcement:
Due to the resolute declaration of the last Wild Dragon rejecting the authority of bondage thrust upon its kin. No bonds will restrict any who desire freedom with the Wilds for the next 10 minutes.
Let free the heart, those that seek the Wilds.]
A moment of silence settled over the assembled crowd. Then it was broken by the sound of shattering metal and the heavy thud of metal hitting the ground. This same same then repeated, again and again and again.
Collars fell to the ground in a wave, it fell from the necks of dragons and slaves alike. The hope they had secretly held burried within their hearts surged as the system itself seemed to bend to the will of the wild one standing before them.
Then a particularly heavy thud rang out and Violet glanced behind her, only to smile wide as a particular emerald dragon distainfully glared at the metal collar that had just fallen from her neck.
Saddly, not all dragons or slaves felt their collars fall away. Those unable or unwilling to embrace the wilds found no succour I no freedom this day.
One such being chose that moment to make itself know. Heavy footfalls thudded out, the heat of the surroundings rose precipitously as a new presence attempted to lay claim to the surroundings.
It raged against the hold enacted by Violet, a growl escaping the jaws of the being that tried to oppose her. Violet’s face grew solemn as she gazed upon the fire red dragon that stared directly at her with madness and fury in its dull eyes, the mid day light gleaming off its still attached slave collar.
