Chapter 298: Fight at the Farm (1)

The tolling of the bells interrupted all people present within the tense ball room. Kurtis along with his lady’s head instantly snapped in the direction of the ringing bells, a grow appearing on the guards brow.

Jasmin Sonantis turned back towards Violet and Luna, a cold smile adorning her face as she spoke. "We shall leave this incident behind us, for now I must investigate what is happening outside." With that she swiftly turned on her heel and strode out of the hall, her guard leading the way.

Sharing a look between themselves, Violet and Luna nodded in agreement before they too turned and exited the hall, aiming to get a better idea of exactly what the situation was outside.

Yet before they could fully spot what was going on their gazes wrrr instantly drawn to 2 large figures resting in the courtyard a short distance away. That being two large dragons, one with fiery red scales, it was slightly bigger than Violet standing around 20 meters in length with powerful muscles creating an imposing figure.

Besides it rested a much more elegant dragon with emerald green scales, it was delegate where the red was brawny. This one was slightly smaller than Violet’s own size and judging from the presence it released it should also be of around the same level as her.

The red dragon in contrast was clearly quite strong, almost definable at the very peak of tier 4 and only lacking a domain of its own to progress to the next tier.

Violet also noted a couple of interesting facts about these two dragons in her initial assessment. The red was clearly quite dumb, when it glanced in Violet’s direction its eyes were glassy and seemed to lack any true intelligence, it didn’t even seem to react to the warning bells that were still ringing even now.

The emerald dragon on the other hand, now she was clearly intelligent. For as soon as Violet had walked out of the door the emeralds gaze had instantly locked onto Violet, her pupils widening as both realisation and shock rippled through her body.

Violet too paused upon meeting the emeralds gaze, a unknown surge of emotions welled up within her as she saw the beast before her, then her gaze dipped to take in her form and froze upon noticing the iron collar that adorned the emeralds neck, faint golden runes glowing along its width.

A smoldering fury ignited once again within Violet as she saw this, her hatred for those responsible almost palpable. Yet she swiftly reigned in her surging emotions, knowing that now was not the time to let them loose, no that would be coming soon however.

Violet had intended to rush towards the wall where the sounds of shouting could be heard, yet she found herself instinctively reaching out with telepathy towards the emerald dragon, her mind bridge connecting without issue.

As it did she felt a faint connection to the dragon before her, a faint swelling of curiosity and long long hope filtering through the temporary link between them.

"How? Why are you here wild one?" Came a hesitant voice, soft yet rich, like the rustling of grass in wind.

Violet took but a moment to reply her heart surging with newfound determination. "I’m here to help. Will you accept my aid?"

A shudder of shock rippled along the link between them, soon followed by that tiny ember of hope surging for the briefest of moments before being subdued once again.

"I wish that I could. But I am bonded and chained. Even if I wanted to I am unable to flee whilst the Lady still lives." Sorrow tinged with resignation marred her words, built up over years of forced servitude.

Yet a wicked smile adorned Violet’s face as she mentally spoke her next words. "Then it is a good job that she won’t be around to restrain you soon enough. Be ready and do what you can till then."

Like that Violet cut the connection, not allowing herself to linger when everyone was happening so quickly. With a simple nod towards the emerald dragon Violet and Luna rushed off in the direction of the commotion by the walls.

They moved swiftly through the rapidly emptying compound. Attendants and slaves rushing to and fro to complete whatever task they were currently doing before rushing away to safety, several young dragons being rushed into some of the larger buildings.

Before long they had arrived by the gates, and with a step from Luna and a blink from Violet they found themselves standing atop a tall building just within the walls of the compound and able to see out into the open grassland beyond.

The sight that they saw there caused wide smiles to adorn the girls faces.

Coming from the direction of the forest came a veritable hoard of beasts, from several different varieties.

From deers, boars, giant snakes and bison type beasts, all of them being led by a particularly strong Lord. Yet they were merely the vanguard of the force that was coming towards them.

For standing in the centre of the assembled beasts stood a singular giant form, her fur better resembling steel bristles and her figure overshadowing all other beasts present. The form of Steelclaw surrounded by her remaining pack made up the true force of this assembled army, her domain floating for all to see.

Violet glanced over to the wall and saw Kurtis, the personal guard of Lady Sonantis stood ramrod straight. His own domain bristling out and surging forwards to try and impeded the advance of the approaching beasts.

Yet Steelclaw was unwilling to allow the human sovereign to impede her new subjects, her own domain unfurling in all of its glory and covering her entire force.

Every beast that stood within its protective aegis suddenly gained a touch of steel on their bodies, be it on the fur of the deer, the tusks of the boars or the scales of the snakes. Every beast within the domain of the beast sovereign found themselves being bolstered and empowered.

The humans however, they did not share in the beasts advantage of having a domain that empowered them physically. Instead as they submitted to the domineering domain, their discipline and coordination seemed to take a noticeable jump. All submitting to the command of the human sovereign as he took command of the assembled guards.

The two domains clashed, steel against subjugation.

Neither side held an obvious advantage.

All the whilst the human guards rushed towards the walls, swiftly climbing up and taking their place in the formation as dictated by their commanding sovereign.

Lady Sonantis stood on the wall aswell, magic swirling around her as she too readied herself for the upcoming fight. A shimmering barrier of magic snapped into place around the walls, encasing them and the defenders in a potent magical defense that would allow the defenders to attack uninterrupted until the beasts managed to break down the barrier.

Yet Violet noticed with barely contained glee that the barrier ended just past the walls, meaning that the entirer wall was contained within, and that no further magical wards had appeared on the walls surface.

A mighty howl rang out, the very air itself seemingly to ripple with its power, causing some of the weaker guards to stumble in place as they were assaulted by the powerful call of a sovereign.

That call was swiftly joined by dozens, no hundreds of other calls from the assembled beasts. A cacophony of noise crowing out even the warning bell that still continued to ring.

Luna glanced around and quickly noticed the location of said bell, it stood at the top of one of the watchtowers flanking the main gates a scrawny young man ringing it with great gusto.

Then the first attacks were launched. Fire balls, wind blades and a dozen different magical attacks flew forth from the defenders on their walls.

Yet the beasts were not to be outdone.

Powerful defensive magics sprang to life before the beasts, protecting them from the initial clash.

Yet Violet was not content to simply let the current status to continue. No, she had a plan to drastically turn the battle more into the favour of the attacking beasts.

Which was why runes began to etch themselves into reality as a magic circle just above Violet.

No one seemed to notice her building attack, everyone instead focused on the attack occurring before them.

That would prove to be a fatal mistake if Violet had anything to do with it.

Her magical circle grew larger and larger as time swiftly passed. The power residing with her void cannon building at a steady clip as mana poured into her attack.

Once satisfied Violet’s grin grew ever wider as she unleashed her attack.

The world turned monochrome with everything turning various shades of purple. A condensed purple line instantly linked Violet’s magical circle and at the main gates themselves.

Then came the explosion.

The gate suddenly had a wagon sized whole in the center of it. The gates themselves entirely thrown off their hinges from the force of the attack.

Then colour bled back into the world accompanied by the surge of sounds held back momentarily by the sheer might of a void infused attack.
