Chapter 1203: Chapter 951: The Baptism of the Star Devourers
The second day finally arrived, and in the early morning, the sleep-bleary-eyed sisters were awakened and the first person they saw upon leaving their home was Zuo La.
"Where is Zemir?" Isrile asked, yawning.
"The baptism is a very important event, and he is not qualified to participate," said Zuo La.
"No, I still prefer him. Call him over," said Isrile.
Zuo La couldn’t help but smile. Among his subordinates, Zemir was considered to have a good eye for talent, although his strength was modest and his luck not so great. But now it seemed that fortune had turned his way. If in the future these two young girls truly become Apostles, then Zemir would surely benefit immensely.
"Go find Zemir," Zuo La ordered an attendant.
At that moment, Zemir was still at home, lost in thought. Lily and Sasa’s baptism was coming right up, and clearly, this matter had nothing to do with himself. Perhaps by tomorrow, he would have to leave this planet, continuing to search the entire Plane for new talent to bring back. Only, he wondered, how would the talent he found compare to Lily and Sasa?
No, he thought, don’t ask for them to be stronger, even if they are half as good, it’s reason enough for gratitude.
Zemir felt unexpectedly sentimental.
Just then, someone knocked on his door and informed him that Lily and Sasa had specifically asked for him to attend the celebration!
In an instant, Zemir’s sentimentality vanished.
Could there really be such good fortune! They hadn’t forgotten me after all!
In just five minutes, Zemir put on his most precious garments and then hurried over to Isrile and Ruosha’s residence. People had already been waiting there for a long time. Seeing Zuo La staring at him, Zemir presented his greetings, looking apologetic.
"Miss Lily and Miss Sasa wish for you to accompany them. This is your opportunity, make sure to perform well," Zuo La said.
"Yes, Lord Zuo La!" Zemir said happily.
At this moment, Zemir truly felt a surge of excitement. When Lily and Sasa first arrived here, he had thought he could become their mentor. Yet, they proved with their strength that he was no match for either of them. Then they started making progress step by step, and from the beginning, he got left far behind by the two. Now, they were about to be baptized and become prospective Apostles, while he himself was overjoyed at the prospect of serving an Apostle.
But this wasn’t something to be ashamed of, was it?
The group set off, and the two girls still looked half-asleep. Zuo La gestured several times for Zemir to remind them, but Zemir just shook his head. On his way there, Zemir had also carefully considered why these kids liked having him serve them—obedience, and not meddling in their affairs.
It was specifically for these two reasons that they liked him. Clearly, Zemir had no intention of changing his habits.
And indeed, that’s how it was. Isrile and Ruosha were unclear about who would be assigned to serve them in the future. Rather than that, they preferred to have Zemir follow them. Zemir was their man, and they felt reassured by that. Plus, Zemir had basically been trained by the two girls themselves, knowing what to do and what not to do.
Seeing Zemir not intervening, Zuo La could only shake his head secretly.
The site of the baptism was deep underground. The large escort that had followed them was now gone, leaving only Isrile and Ruosha, Zuo La, and Zemir. The four descended to the very depths below via a rune metal platform. When a giant iron door slid open with a roar, revealing a strange space, they were in awe.
They found themselves on a huge metal platform, surrounded by darkness, with no idea how vast the area was around them. The only thing they could hear was a deep, droning noise that made people uncomfortable.
On the metal platform stood a group of people, all wearing the same robes and holding a metal sphere in their hands that resembled an eye with fangs.
The old Apostle who had suggested Isrile and Elsa become provisional Apostles was standing in the middle. Suddenly, he raised the metal sphere in his hand high, and everyone around did the same. The little metal spheres emitted light, beaming towards the endless darkness in the distance. Then, in the midst of the darkness, a flame was ignited, and the light descended abruptly!
Isrile and Ruosha watched in shock at the distant spectacle.
What was glowing was the core of a Star Devourer!
And not just a single core! It was a cluster of cores!
Ruosha made a rough estimate—the cluster of cores consisted of at least thirty.
Could it be that the inside of a Star Devourer contained such a vast number of cores? This truly exceeded Ruosha and Isrile’s expectations.
Seeing the surprised expressions on the faces of the two girls, the old Apostle nodded approvingly. Yes, nobody could remain unperturbed upon seeing such a spectacular sight! Fear not their amazement, for soon that surprise would transform into reverence!
"Step forward and receive the baptism!"
The old Apostle called out loudly.
Isrile and Ruosha carefully stepped forward while the surrounding Apostles began to chant loudly. At first, the two girls were very nervous, thinking the Apostles were chanting some sort of brainwashing magic, but upon listening carefully, it was basically a clumsy praise of the Star Devourers in Giant language.
"There’s a grammar error, did you hear it?" Ruosha suddenly said.
"Focus," Isrile said.
The two arrived at the end of the metallic platform, right above the bottomless abyss, and ahead of them, the cluster of Star Devourer cores seemed to be getting closer!
The Apostles’ chanting grew louder, and with their chants, the cluster of cores continuously transformed, emitting different, strange glows from their surfaces, even producing faint sounds.
"Listen, what’s that sound?" Ruosha suddenly asked Isrile.
"What sound? I don’t hear anything," Isrile asked puzzled.
"No way, you’re not that old yet, are you? You can’t even hear such an obvious sound?" Ruosha asked.
"Cut the nonsense! There’s clearly no—wait a minute! Are you talking about that continuous metallic sound?" Isrile seemed to understand.
"Yes, that sound. Does it sound weird to you in any way?" Ruosha said.
"If it’s weird...it actually sounds like the chants of these people," Isrile said.
"Right, you heard it too," Ruosha said with a smile.
"I’m not deaf," Isrile thought to herself, rolling her eyes at Ruosha inwardly.
"These cores actually mimic singing, I’ve never heard of such a thing before," Ruosha said.
"Maybe they can dance too!" Isrile laughed.
And right before their eyes, the cores actually began to separate and recombine rhythmically with the chants, then separate and recombine again.
"Look, they really are starting to dance," Ruosha said.
Behind the two of them, on the platform, a group of Apostles also began to dance with mechanical and awkward moves that had no beauty to speak of. However, every Apostle was fully invested, their expressions dead serious as if this was the most magnificent thing in life.
With the dance, the group of Star Devourer cores started spinning rapidly. They orbited around a center, spinning ceaselessly, and tiny metallic fragments separated from them. Ruosha and Isrile, using their powerful vision, saw that these were not mere fragments, but tiny tetrahedrons separating from each core and then reassembling into two small cores at the center.
These two tiny cores joyfully shot into the air with the surrounding chants, heading straight for Ruosha and Isrile, circling them. It was then that the two finally realized these were not cores, but metallic eyes with large mouths, just like those held in the hands of the nearby Apostles!
The design was unmistakably two miniature Star Devourers!
So that’s it! These little things originated from here!
But what does this mean? Does it mean that Star Devourers reproduce this way? Can these metallic behemoths actually procreate? Through splitting?
The two metallic eyes circled around Isrile and Ruosha, continuously firing intense beams from within, bathing them in light. They instantly felt all fatigue swept away, their energy replenished, even their internal mana seemed much more abundant.
"Catalysis Beam?" Isrile said.
"Giant Device?" Ruosha asked.
"Right, designed by the Giants, it can increase the potency of magic by twenty percent. Following the Giant device’s characteristic of being foolproof and harmless, it’s absolutely a divine artifact," Isrile said.
"So, the Giant device you mentioned, is it supposed to be like this?" Ruosha asked.
"How could that be!" Isrile said.
Clearly, this was just the beginning. After receiving the irradiation of the Catalysis Beam, the two miniature Star Devourers automatically hovered above their shoulders, suspending there. At that moment, the Apostles ceased their chanting and dancing. The group of cores in front reassembled into a cluster, only this time very systematically, with powerful energy roaring as it circulated within the core.
Zuo La had been silently observing those two girls, clearly at this moment these two girls were different from other apostles receiving the baptism; from start to finish, they only showed curiosity, no tension or surprise, which was quite miraculous. Of course, they were exceedingly excellent, having grown up among the elite, they might not even care about these so-called little surprises. But no matter, because soon, they would experience truly formidable power.
The massive core group continued to emit sounds, but this time the sound was completely different from before; it was actually the trembling of space itself!
The Apostles behind them immediately cast spells, trying to produce a similar sound. Despite their power, could they shake space with high-frequency vibrations? That was simply impossible!
But Ruosha could do that, but should she? (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets, monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
