Chapter 1202: Chapter 950: Cursed Youth
Speaking of which, the old researcher’s staff began to glow, ready to unleash the magic stored within!
But then, someone rushed forward and grabbed the gem at the tip of the staff.
"What are you muttering to yourself about?" Ruosha asked with a giggly smile.
"Fool!" The old researcher quickly pumped mana, trying to instantly shatter Ruosha’s arm that was in front of him. But at the next moment, the large gem made a crisp sound!
Bang!
The incredibly hard gem was actually crushed by Ruosha!
"How can this be? How is this possible!" The old researcher was instantly dumbfounded; in his mind, no researcher should be able to do this, people who only knew to delve into their research within their own fields wouldn’t have time to train their combat skills, let alone these two young girls! With their high scholarly abilities, their fighting prowess should be terrifyingly low. But just now, the seemingly delicate Ruosha had directly crushed the gem on the tip of his staff, a feat not so easily done by a warrior using Fighting Aura, yet she had crushed it by hand!
"Who... who exactly are you?" The old researcher’s voice started to tremble.
Ruosha grabbed the old researcher’s arm and handed him over to Isrile, "Little Zi taught you the mental magic better than me, the rest is up to you."
Isrile smiled slightly, "It’s rare for you to admit there’s something you’re not as good at."
Ruosha pouted, "Are you satisfied now? Get to work!"
Isrile didn’t waste words, her hands circled the old researcher’s head, and the researcher, already so nervous he was about to faint, immediately lost consciousness.
"It’s a recursive enhancement curse," Isrile said.
"Speak human," Ruosha didn’t understand.
"To put it simply, his passion for researching topics will augment his admiration and loyalty to the Star Devourers; and his admiration and loyalty to the Star Devourers will further enhance his passion for researching the subjects. This curse, which has been lurking in his psyche, was negligible at first, but as time passed, with the deepening of research and the mutual influence of both aspects, his mind is now filled with nothing but worship and loyalty to the Star Devourers and a frenzy for advancing his research," Isrile explained.
"So, did he try to assassinate us because we are too charming, or is this old guy just a creepy lolicon?" Ruosha asked jokingly.
"It’s neither; rather, jealousy and rage are a creature’s instincts. They’re the most fundamental parts of human nature, and even if his brain is completely filled, these two things will still exist," Isrile explained.
"Can it be cured?" Ruosha asked.
"Let me try," Isrile said, as she began to use the mental magic taught by Little Zi, not to remove the curse, but to completely quarantine it. This wouldn’t alarm the person who cast the curse, and it would lift the curse from someone.
"Wake him up to try," Ruosha said.
Isrile immediately woke the old researcher, and the old man came to his senses groggily. He looked at Isrile, then at Ruosha, his eyes filled with confusion, "What happened to me? Why was I researching subjects I don’t like, out of frenzied devotion to some ugly monster? Why did I become jealous enough to kill? My hands, why are they so aged? What has happened to me? No, no, I know what happened, but why do I feel like that person isn’t me at all?"
The old researcher, upon waking, seemed like a different person, his eyes devoid of any maliciousness and filled with only confusion.
Ruosha and Isrile exchanged looks, knowing they had achieved their goal. If the old researcher was to regain his senses on his own, it would still take some time. So Isrile used the mental magic again to speed up the process. Soon, the old researcher’s eyes brightened.
"Have I been cursed?" the old researcher asked.
Isrile laughed, "Yes, you’ve been cursed. I think with that brilliant mind of yours, you can immediately understand what happened, right?"
The old researcher nodded, "I was originally a scientist from the Azure Sky Empire, forcibly brought here for my achievements in spatial transmission, and through this curse, I was made to fervently believe in those two gargantuan and ferocious beings, my only thought each day was how to dedicate my strength to the Star Devourers. For this, I gave my all, aging from a man in his prime to the old man I am now!"
The old researcher’s thoughts were clear, as everything that had happened was his own experience; a little reflection, and he could understand it all quite clearly.
"Since you understand, we’re no longer enemies, right?" Ruosha said.
"Yes, I am ashamed, but at that time, I was truly out of control," the old researcher said, bowing his head.
"This is not a big deal since you can hardly hurt us anyway, but now the question is, do you plan to help us?" Ruosha asked.
"Actually, I still don’t know what exactly you’re planning to do," the old researcher said with a wry smile.
"Don’t worry, you’ll know soon enough." Isrile continued to cast psychic spells instead of verbally describing their purpose for coming here. Of course, they omitted many details, but the gist was that the Azure Sky Emperor was very concerned about those fanatically devoted to the Star Devourers, and had sent them to find out what these people were really doing and what their goals were. Most importantly, they needed to know why a Star Devourer had appeared here, whether it could wake up again, and how many beings like it existed.
Upon hearing it was the Emperor’s order, the old researcher, who had been filled with dismay and confusion, immediately became excited.
"Please let me help you! I’ve wasted the best years of my life here, and ridiculously enough, I was even proud of it! I must make amends for my mistakes with my own actions!" the old researcher said.
"Don’t worry, the opportunity will come very soon," Ruosha said.
Actually, the old researcher’s actions had always been under surveillance. When he left his residence and neared the dwelling of Isrile and Ruosha, someone had already reported to the Apostles. Zuo La, along with the Guard Team, immediately rushed over, fearing that something might go wrong. On this planet, the Guard Team rarely mobilized because most of the people were controlled by their faith and couldn’t break free from their chains of belief. However, there are always exceptions. If someone did break free and started causing trouble, then the help of the Guard Team was needed.
Today, the old researcher’s behavior had been very unstable, so naturally, his surveillance level had been raised. Zuo La felt this was very necessary. Losing an old researcher wasn’t important, but absolutely nothing could go wrong with those two young girls.
So, when he heard that the old researcher had sneaked off to find Lily and Sasa, he immediately brought the Guard Team. He even regretted not having followed the old researcher with the Guard Team from the beginning; if anything had happened to the two girls, how could he live up to his sworn loyalty to the Star Devourers!
Zuo La led the way with the Guard Team behind him. They quickly arrived at the entrance of Isrile and Ruosha’s dwelling. The broken door made Zuo La’s heart skip a beat. But the voices inside seemed to indicate no dispute was happening. However, Zuo La no longer cared about such details and led his men directly in. Upon entering, they saw the old researcher sitting in a chair, with Lily and Sasa standing in front of him. The room was filled with several whiteboards, the contents of which were similar to what they had seen before, only now there were additional notes and comments that seemed to be Ruosha’s explanations and discussions on certain ideas.
"Lord Zuo La!" The old researcher quickly stood up.
"Hey, what are you doing barging in here so aggressively?" Isrile asked, standing in front of Zuo La.
"Er..." Zuo La was somewhat at a loss for words. Clearly, there had been no confrontation, but the door had indeed been forcefully broken open. He then turned his gaze to the old researcher: "What are you doing here?"
Seeing Zuo La look at him, the old researcher said somewhat fearfully, "Ah, I wasn’t convinced by my loss to them, and I kept thinking that their formula was too simple. So, I kept studying it in my mind, thinking that I had found a flaw in their theory. Then I arrogantly came here to shame them. But as you can see now, I’ve lost again."
The old researcher’s voice was a bit helpless, but his tone clearly showed that he was convinced.
"Is that so?" Zuo La turned his head to look at Ruosha. In his memory, Ruosha was quite well-behaved and was not likely to lie.
"It’s not as simple as he says! You didn’t see how smug he looked at the time! He was clearly the one who made the mistake, yet he boldly came to point out our errors!" Ruosha said with a pout.
Zuo La then laughed, which basically indirectly confirmed that what the old researcher had said was true. This put Zuo La at ease, as what he feared most was a breach of the faith shackles, and now it seemed that such a thing had not occurred. He secretly cast a spell to check the curse residing within the old researcher’s psyche, and the curse was still intact.
"That’s where you’re wrong! As a senior, instead of guiding your juniors, you actually did such a thing? Go back and reflect on your actions immediately!" Zuo La shouted.
"Yes, Lord Zuo La!" The old researcher, as if granted amnesty, hurriedly left the place.
"Are you two alright?" Zuo La asked with concern.
"What could happen? Whether it’s combat power or research ability, he is not stronger than us in any aspect!" Isrile said proudly.
"Hahaha, good to hear that, good to hear that! The baptism starts early tomorrow, so you’d better get some rest!" Zuo La left with his men. Even though the door was broken, Zuo La directly left all of the Guard Team there to protect them and ensure that no one could harm them.
"Baptism? We’re really looking forward to it!" Isrile watched Zuo La leave through the window, a smile spreading across her face.
Meanwhile, after the old researcher returned to his residence, he was drenched in sweat. If not for Isrile casting a calming spell on him, he might have fainted from fear earlier. Fortunately, he didn’t have many lines, and since he was supposed to be afraid, his fearful expression did add a touch of realism to his performance.
Having regained his free will and recalling everything that had happened here, he was overwhelmed with an inexplicable sadness. But before tears could flow, he immediately remembered what Isrile had said, "Instead of mourning your fate, you should think about how to take revenge on those who brought you here!"
When anger took over, the sadness immediately disappeared.
"Revenge! I want revenge!" (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please read at m.qidian.com.)
