Chapter 528: Chapter 527: Just sleeping

Shhhhhhh...

Rain began to fall as the crowd scattered in search of cover.

While everyone rushed about, the man and the woman were soon drenched, the two simply looking at each other.

"Have you been waiting long?" she asked with a smile as she approached him.

She was a head shorter than him, and with her standing this close, the man had to look down at her.

Then she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him.

Time seemed to slow as the rain poured over their bodies.

The kiss felt like electricity coursing through them as they lost themselves in it for what felt like an eternity.

After a minute, they finally broke apart, both of them breathless.

"The wait was worth it," the man said, his voice deep and his breathing heavy before kissing her once more.

His hands slowly trailed around her waist as the two left the bridge and headed toward the house they had bought.

Click...

The door shut behind them as they embraced, their clothes quickly falling to the floor.

As the rain intensified outside, soft moans filled the room as sweat and pleasure intertwined.

"I love you."

After an hour, the two lay naked in each other’s arms as thunder roared outside and the rain continued to pour.

"I love you too," the man replied as he gently rubbed the woman’s stomach, the two smiling warmly.

They had only met a few days ago, yet one thing had led to another, and they had fallen deeply in love.

However, both of them came from different places and still had things they needed to settle.

So they made a promise.

If, after one week, they both returned to meet each other on that same bridge, it would mean they had left everything behind for one another and would spend the rest of their lives growing old together.

And now...

Having met each other again...

They knew they were meant for one another.

The two snuggled closer before quietly closing their eyes.

---

Five years came and went.

The two eventually got married, and their wedding became a grand celebration within the small town.

Two people blessed with otherworldly beauty had come together.

No one doubted that if they had a daughter, she would be incomparably beautiful, and if they had a son, he would grow into an astonishingly handsome young man.

Eventually, they gave birth to a boy.

His wife learned embroidery while, like many other men, he learned a trade before eventually becoming a hunter.

The two lived happily together, and their son, Keith, grew deeply attached to them.

"Dad! Dad! I caught something!"

Just as the setting sun dyed the sky orange, the excited shout of a young boy echoed through the area. A dead bird was clutched tightly under his arm as he ran toward his father.

Finishing the skewered meat in his hands, the man looked up to see his son rushing toward him.

"Hey there, slow down, champ," his father said with a wide smile as he crouched down.

The boy stopped and opened his palm.

"While I was trying to hunt, I saw this bird. But when I got closer, it wouldn’t move. I threw it into the air to help it fly, but..."

Just then, his father’s large hand rested gently on the boy’s head.

"Keith, it’s okay. I understand," his father said as he took the bird from him.

"It’ll fly."

"It just needs to sleep."

Looking at his son, the father smiled as Keith slowly nodded.

"Let’s wait for your mom, okay?"

Keith nodded obediently.

"So, Father, what meat is this?" Keith asked excitedly as he sniffed the delicious aroma with a bright smile.

"Ah..."

"Good question."

"You see, this is..."

His father began explaining as the two, one big and one small, chatted happily about the animal he had hunted.

Before they realized it...

Darkness blanketed the sky while the fire illuminated their surroundings.

At that moment, the three of them sat around the table, enjoying their meal together.

"Keith, your father told me you have something to show me?"

After finishing her meal, the beautiful woman smiled as Keith looked toward his father, who gave him several encouraging nods.

"This... bird..."

"It won’t fly, and Father said it’s sleeping."

"Mom, can you wake it up?"

Keith asked hopefully.

The woman frowned slightly before exchanging a glance with her husband.

"Okay."

"Where is it?"

After a moment, she smiled warmly as Keith excitedly brought the dead bird over and carefully placed it on the table.

By now, a pungent smell had already begun coming from its body.

"Yes..."

"Just like your father said."

His mother quietly observed the bird.

"It’s only sleeping."

She gently tapped the bird as a faint red light enveloped its body.

Several seconds passed.

The foul smell disappeared.

Then...

Its feathers twitched.

Moments later, the bird opened its eyes.

"Mom! You did it!"

Keith shouted excitedly as his mother smiled.

"Go on."

"Take it outside."

"It’ll fly this time."..., his mother said.

"Thank you, Mom!"

"I’ll be back, Father!"

Keith happily carried the still-confused bird outside.

The moment he was gone, the woman’s expression changed.

"What was that for?" she couldn’t help but ask.

The father sighed heavily.

"My love..."

"I’m afraid our time is almost up."

"I overheard them talking."

"They’ll make their move soon."

"So..."

"Wouldn’t it be better to make the boy as happy as we can while we still have the chance?"

The man asked, worry filling his face.

But he wasn’t the only one.

The woman’s expression also changed the moment she heard those words.

Her head slowly lowered in silence.

"But... isn’t it too soon? Keith hasn’t even grown up yet. He’s only five years old. Once I’m gone, won’t he..."

Before she could finish, she felt a warm embrace as her husband stood up and wrapped his arms around her.

"He’ll be fine, I promise."

"And..."

"You’ll be fine too."

He gently kissed her cheek.

Just as the couple was sharing their moment, it was interrupted by the excited voice of a child.

"Mom! Dad! It flew away! It isn’t sleeping anymore!"

Keith came running inside on his little legs, causing both of his parents to smile.

"Come on, kid. Show us how it flew," the man said.

Keith’s face lit up.

"Like this, Father!"

He spread his arms wide and ran left and right around the room, making his parents burst into laughter as they watched him.

Meanwhile...

While the family of three enjoyed their precious time together...

Outside their house...

Pairs of eyes lit up within the darkness as they coldly stared at the home.
