Chapter 522: Chapter 521: A satisfied void
Void appeared in Din’s world and immediately realized that everything had changed.
The world seemed to have advanced by an entire level, as Void could sense multiple Rank 2 auras.
More than that...
A single Rank 3 aura spread across the world like a calm blanket covering everything.
Void instantly knew it belonged to Din as he appeared inside a grand palace.
Within it, the very best stood before a single man.
The King of Humanity.
The protector and ruler of this world.
Countless tales had been told about him—about his prowess and the great feats he had accomplished. How he had single-handedly defeated the evil gods and the predatory outsiders who called themselves immortals.
How Din had stood up and split open the heavens, releasing the seal those evil beings had placed upon the inhabitants of the world.
Before Din sat upon a throne forged from gold and countless rare materials.
Standing before him were his ministers and advisors.
These were the former Ten Ancient Martial Warriors, alongside several wise humans who had lived for many years.
Together, they had rebuilt this world.
And even now, they continued to build it as the dawn of prosperity lay within arm’s reach.
Void watched their meeting silently.
Before long, night fell, and Din walked back to his chambers.
Removing his embroidered robes woven from the world’s rarest materials, he sat behind his desk and began reading the reports brought to him.
As he read, however, Din couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
He slowly turned around.
"Who’s there?" Din asked as he looked around his room.
After several seconds...
No one answered.
Din stood up and released his Rank 3 aura.
Yet even then...
He found no one.
"Osiris..."
Suddenly, Din spoke.
Void appeared with a grin on his face.
"How did you know?" Void asked.
Din laughed.
"I’m the strongest being in this world. If anyone could escape my senses, it had to be someone stronger than me."
"And that’s you, Osiris."
Void smiled faintly.
"Interesting... but I should only be around Rank 2."
"At least that’s what the gods and immortals believed," Din corrected.
"But the World and I both know you’re much stronger than that."
"You might not even be from this world."
Void looked at him with amusement.
"Alright, alright."
"I see you’re running the world quite well."
"Of course," Din replied with a smile.
"It can be overwhelming at times."
"But whenever I see the smiles of children playing safely in the streets..."
"Or hear poor people speaking about their dreams while actually being able to attend school to pursue them..."
"It gives me strength all over again."
"It’s difficult to believe that just three years ago..."
"The entire world had become nothing more than a realm of survival."
"Everyone only thought about surviving until the next day."
"Schools were abandoned."
"Healthcare barely existed."
"And teenagers were handed swords, dressed in armor, and sent to the battlefield."
Din sighed softly.
"I see..." Void replied quietly.
"Alright."
"The three years are up."
"We should leave now."
Din fell silent.
After taking a deep breath, he finally spoke.
"How long will it be?"..., he asked.
"It could be a year."
"A decade."
"Or even an era."
"By the time you return..."
"You may already have been forgotten."
Void answered calmly.
After all, every Omniverse had a different flow of time.
Din quietly looked back toward his people.
He believed the preparations he had made would be enough.
Void waited silently.
He was curious.
Would Din honor their agreement...
Or refuse and remain with his people?
"Let’s go."
After several moments, Din finally spoke as he looked toward Void.
Determination could clearly be seen in his eyes.
It seemed Din had truly made up his mind.
He would honor his end of the agreement.
"Alright then."
Void nodded.
The next instant...
The two of them appeared in space at the exact location where Darkseid should have been.
But...
There was nothing there.
"One moment..."
Void muttered as he spread his consciousness throughout the surrounding universe.
The longer he searched...
The more his expression changed.
"Where is Darkseid?"
Void couldn’t help but ask.
At this moment, they were within the DC Omniverse.
More specifically...
The very same universe Void had visited when he was only Rank 1.
All because he wanted to kill the Darkseid clone that had humiliated him.
Yes...
Void was that petty.
And that was the entire reason he had remained inside Din’s consciousness.
He wanted to use Din to destroy Darkseid.
After all, Void knew the DC Omniverse was anything but simple.
Even at Rank 4...
The DC Omniverse possessed far too many terrifying existences.
Being Rank 4 didn’t make him invincible.
He could still be tracked.
Captured.
Or even sealed.
Void had absolutely no intention of being sealed.
Furthermore, Dreadborne and all of his clones already carried far too many fate lines connected directly to him.
Nor could he simply destroy them.
Every one of them still had a purpose.
But Din was different.
Void could simply use him.
After all, any traces left behind would ultimately point toward Din rather than himself.
Not to mention...
Void wasn’t targeting Darkseid’s true body.
Only the clone that existed within this universe.
His plan had been flawless.
Come to the DC universe.
Kill Darkseid’s clone using Din.
Return home.
Destroy Din and his entire world.
Sever the fate line connected to this universe.
Then destroy that fate line as well.
Simple.
Everything would have been neatly resolved.
But now...
Darkseid’s clone was nowhere to be found.
"Is something wrong?" Din asked.
Void slowly nodded.
"Very wrong."
Then...
Void rewound time to see what had happened.
After several moments...
A smile slowly spread across his face.
"Actually..."
"Scratch that."
"Things are better than I expected."
Void laughed.
Din blinked in confusion.
Weren’t you the one who said things were bad?
Then why are they suddenly good now?
"Let’s return," Void said.
The next moment, they were back.
"Din."
Back in his room, Din suddenly heard Void’s voice.
"Live well," Void said with a chuckle before disappearing.
---
Meanwhile...
The moment Void and Din left, a figure emerged from the shadows.
Holding a strange piece of equipment, he carefully observed that section of space.
A bat emblem rested upon his chest.
This was the great descendant of Batman.
His costume was entirely black, with a long cape flowing behind him.
His eyes and face were concealed beneath a transparent glass-like mask, while his suit appeared bioluminescent, filled with highly advanced technology.
After a while, he finished his investigation.
A spaceship appeared before him, and he stepped inside.
---
Back in the Abyss...
Void’s true body slowly opened its eyes with a grin.
As it turned out...
Sun Wukong had encountered Darkseid’s clone and actually killed it.
What made Void even happier was that the Titan who had once snatched Sun Wukong away from him was now in trouble...
And would soon have to bear the consequences.
"Heheh..."
Void chuckled.
