Chapter 66: Alpha Beast
"He was an annoying candidate. Why should I enjoy something as troublesome as supervising a little brat? I’d rather go devour the inhabitants of an entire planet than do that."
Zephyr spoke lazily, as though wiping out an entire planet was nothing out of the ordinary.
On the other side, the young man frantically glanced back and forth between Lam and Zephyr. His eyes trembled with terror after hearing that Zephyr had devoured the previous candidate assigned to him.
He immediately remembered calling Zephyr a faggot not long ago.
Fortunately, he gradually calmed down after hearing Zephyr’s next words.
"But unfortunately, those damned old bastards warned me several times that I can’t do that this time. Otherwise, my punishment will be handed over to the Commander."
Zephyr sighed angrily, as though he were the one who had been wronged.
When Lam heard Zephyr mention the Commander, he fell silent for a moment and frowned.
After thinking for a while, he turned his gaze toward the young man before tapping his desk.
"Let’s see what makes the Primordial Fangs’ new candidate so special."
A blue panel appeared before Lam, displaying the young man’s personal information along with his true form.
A three-dimensional image of a blood-red bird appeared.
It had a long tail of feathers, a blazing crest atop its head, and a beak similar to an eagle’s—but reinforced with countless razor-sharp, saw-like teeth.
Beside the image, his information appeared.
---
Name: Ricky
Race: Blood Phoenix
Bloodline: Immortal
Law: Blood Nirvana Cosmic Law
Level: Wis (4)
Age: 15
---
"Ooh..."
Lam was visibly surprised by the information on the panel and looked toward Ricky.
"I didn’t expect you to be a Phoenix with an Immortal Bloodline."
"And you even possess two Laws."
"But... what a pity."
Lam shook his head before looking at Zephyr.
"It seems the mutation he underwent wasn’t completed."
Zephyr continued staring lazily at the sky.
When he heard Lam’s remark, he let out another sigh.
"He was originally born with an Immortal Bloodline."
"But some time ago, he got trapped inside an area with an extremely high concentration of the Blood Law."
"If it had been anyone else, they would’ve died within minutes."
"But surprisingly, he endured it, which triggered a mutation in his bloodline."
"Unfortunately, he couldn’t hold out until the very end."
"Otherwise, he’d possess a Mutated Immortal Bloodline by now."
Zephyr sighed dramatically once again.
"If one of those damned old bastards hadn’t been watching the whole thing from the start and stepped in to save him at the right moment..."
"He would’ve become nothing more than another pool of blood in that place by now."
"And besides..."
"Don’t you dare pity this bastard."
"What do you mean?"
Lam frowned in confusion.
Not completing the mutation into a Mutated Bloodline isn’t worthy of pity?
Zephyr straightened up in his chair and pointed at Ricky.
His voice overflowed with jealousy without even trying to hide it.
"Sure, this bastard’s bloodline didn’t mutate completely..."
"But his bloodline gained the Major Blood Law, which fused with the Blood Nirvana Cosmic Law of the Phoenix race."
"His affinity with that new Law skyrocketed to over ninety-five percent."
"And on top of that..."
"He became capable of cultivating the Human Energy Path immediately after the incident."
The jealousy and resentment in Zephyr’s voice intensified with every new piece of information.
Finally, he pointed at Ricky furiously and ground his teeth.
"You pity him because his bloodline didn’t fully mutate?"
"Then what if I told you..."
"He’s not just a beast with an extraordinary bloodline."
"He’s also an Alpha Beast."
"That’s why those damned old bastards won’t let me devour him."
"What?!"
Lam shot to his feet.
His eyes shook violently as he stared at Ricky in utter disbelief.
Countless words rose to his lips...
Yet not a single one came out.
Only after the truth finally settled in his mind did Lam slowly exhale, sit back down, and look at Zephyr.
"A bloodline that’s only one step away from mutation..."
"A brand-new Law stronger than his original Cosmic Law..."
"A beast capable of cultivating the Human Path..."
"And on top of all that..."
"He’s an Alpha Beast."
Lam stared at Zephyr in complete disbelief.
"Holy shit... was I actually pitying a damned monster like this?"
"Excuse me..."
"But I’m still sitting right here, you know."
Ricky looked at Lam and reminded him politely in a soft voice.
Ever since learning that Zephyr had devoured his previous candidate—and even regarded entire planets full of people as nothing more than food—Ricky completely changed the way he interacted with Zephyr, and even with those close to him, such as Lam.
"O-Oh, sorry."
"I lost my composure for a second. Hahaha."
Lam scratched his head apologetically before immediately turning back to Zephyr.
"Holy shit, man."
"The strongest organization in the universe already has members with Mutated Immortal Bloodlines. And the second strongest organization in the universe, second only to the Origin Court, has members whose mutated bloodlines have evolved beyond their original bloodlines."
"And now you’ve got this damned monster too."
"So what exactly are you planning?"
"Conquering the universe?"
Zephyr raised one eyebrow slightly and looked at Lam in confusion.
"I know you’re trying to squeeze information out of me..."
"But don’t you think you’re being a little too direct?"
He leaned back again and lazily looked toward the sky.
"But... why not?"
"At the very least..."
"When we come knocking on your doors..."
"I’ll personally make sure to end your life and devour you."
It was an extremely dangerous statement.
Especially considering it was directed at one of the mightiest empires in the universe—
The Immortal Eternal Night Empire.
Yet Lam merely laughed confidently.
"Hahaha, dear Zephyr."
"I may not be your match in a head-on fight..."
"But when it comes to running away..."
"You’re not even worthy of carrying my shoes."
Zephyr glanced at Lam with one lazy eye, raised an eyebrow at his shamelessness, and shrugged.
"I’ve got nothing to say."
"You’re right about that."
Then Zephyr stood up, cracked his neck, and extended a hand toward Lam.
"Come on."
"My time here is over."
"Give me the boy’s Coliseum entry token."
