Chapter 67: The Immortal Auction
"Come on, we’re done here. Give me the boy’s Colosseum entry pass."
Lam looked at Zephyr and let out a deliberately sorrowful sigh.
"I was hoping we’d chat a little longer."
"Here you go."
Lam took out a crimson card engraved with a sword and a claw crossed in an X and handed it to Zephyr.
"Alright then, goodbye."
Zephyr waved the card, turned around, and began walking away, with Ricky following closely behind.
But just before they stepped through the golden gate, Lam called out once more...
"There is only one year left until The Immortal Auction. Perhaps this time you’ll finally find what you’ve been looking for."
Lam waved at Zephyr with a smile before dissolving into strands of light and disappearing.
Zephyr glanced back at him, frowned, let out an inward sigh, then stepped through the golden gate.
"May I ask you something?" Ricky followed behind Zephyr and spoke politely.
"Hmm?"
Zephyr turned to him, raised an eyebrow, and nodded.
"Go ahead."
"Who exactly is that man, Lam? You two seem to get along quite well."
Ricky’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Zephyr.
"Tsk, get along my ass."
Zephyr cursed the moment Lam’s name was mentioned.
"We’ve only met twice before. Both times I tried to devour him, but that damned bastard was always too slippery and escaped my fangs. Unfortunately, fate decided that he’d end up being the one in charge of my affairs in The Eternal Night Heaven."
"But don’t you have a golden assistant? If you can’t stand him, why didn’t you just handle everything through your golden assistant from the start?"
Ricky asked in confusion, glancing at the tiny spider sleeping atop Zephyr’s head.
"Aren’t you the problem?"
Zephyr shot Ricky a sidelong glance and spoke sarcastically.
"Me? What do you mean?"
Ricky pointed at himself in disbelief.
"I could’ve finished everything by myself. But since you were with me, we had to follow protocol and register you in person through one of the staff members."
With a face full of boredom and annoyance, Zephyr continued forward and climbed the stairs leading to the second floor.
Ricky followed behind him. He remained silent for several seconds but couldn’t hold back for long.
"Then... what about The Immortal Auction? Will the thing you need really be there?"
The instant he heard that question, Zephyr stopped in his tracks, turned around to face Ricky, and a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes.
"How long are you going to keep chattering like this?"
Seeing that look, Ricky’s body trembled involuntarily, and he lowered his head.
"I’m sorry."
Zephyr turned around again and continued climbing the stairs.
After several seconds, he finally spoke.
"The Immortal Auction is an auction held by the Eternal Night Empire once every million years. You could say it’s the greatest auction in the entire universe. The number of treasures displayed there, along with their rarity, is something no other organization in existence can match. Of course, there are empires and organizations that possess items of equal or even greater value, but they’d never be willing to put them up for auction."
"Then what you’re looking for must be incredibly rare if you couldn’t find it anywhere else... and Lord Lam seemed so certain it would appear at the auction."
Ricky’s eyes lit up with curiosity.
"Of course. If a tenth-grade law potion isn’t rare, then what is? I’ve waited over a hundred thousand years without breaking through because of it."
Zephyr replied indifferently with a mocking smile.
"What?! A tenth-grade law potion?!"
Ricky’s eyes widened as he shouted in utter shock.
He had been only five years old when he became trapped in that region and his bloodline mutated into the Blood Phoenix.
After meeting the master who had rescued him, he began cultivating the human energy path.
Within a single month, he had broken through the first three realms thanks to the power of his Immortal bloodline.
Another month later, he comprehended the first stage of the Cosmic Blood Nirvana Law and reached Wis (4).
Within a single year, he comprehended the second stage of the Blood Nirvana Law.
Yet he still couldn’t advance to Wis (5).
That was because of the nature of the human energy path.
After reaching the fourth realm of the human path, cultivation came to a complete halt. No one could advance any further.
For humans—or beasts who chose this path—to progress beyond the fourth realm, they had to create a potion perfectly suited to both themselves and their personal law.
Ricky had been stuck at Wis (4) for nine years because he still hadn’t managed to create a Blood Nirvana Law potion after embarking on the human energy path.
It wasn’t because he lacked money or resources.
It was because he lacked the necessary knowledge to create it.
If it had only been the Cosmic Nirvana Law or the Major Blood Law, the process would’ve been much easier.
However, after his mutation, the Blood Law fused with the Nirvana Law, forming an entirely new law that had never existed before.
As a result, he was forced to walk a path no one had ever walked before and invent potions that had never before appeared anywhere in the universe.
"But isn’t the main law of the Soul Devouring Spider race the Major Devouring Law? Then why did you have to wait over a hundred thousand years just to make the potion, even if it’s a tenth-grade one?"
Ricky tilted his head to one side and raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"It’s not like Devouring Law resources are incredibly rare. Sure, gathering tenth-grade resources for a major law would be difficult, but not difficult enough to justify waiting a hundred thousand years."
"Especially when you’re one of the most prominent members of the Primordial Fangs."
In response, Zephyr slowly turned his head and looked at Ricky with extreme contempt and disgust, as though Ricky were the filthiest thing he had ever laid eyes upon.
"You damned chicken... do you think you’ll find tenth-grade resources lying beside the road or being sold in markets?"
"You and that bastard you call your master spent nine whole years searching for nothing more than a fifth-grade potion formula for a mere cosmic law, and you still haven’t even completed fifty percent of it."
"So why do you think I spent a hundred thousand years gathering the resources for a tenth-grade formula of a law derived from the Primordial Soul Law?"
"A... a law derived from the Primordial Soul Law?!"
