Chapter 503: Chapter 500: Common Enemy
Faye Jennings could hear the thick sarcasm in her words. ’Wasn’t she just mocking me for being a country bumpkin in the past, someone who had never seen the world and hadn’t even had coffee before? So Autumn Shelby has always been able to stomach coffee, but so what? Didn’t she lose Seth Quinn all the same?’
Faye Jennings was furious, but her expression remained serene. "People’s tastes change. So do their circumstances, status, and identity. You, Miss Shelby, don’t seem to have changed much—still so fond of coffee. However, it seems your taste is the only thing that hasn’t."
"What do you mean by that?" Autumn Shelby wasn’t a fool; she naturally caught the underlying meaning in her words. Her expression immediately tensed. "Are you saying my status has changed? Do you think that just because Seth doesn’t want me anymore, I’m now beneath you?
Faye Jennings, no matter how you look at it, I am the dignified young miss of the Shelby Family. And you? You’re just an actress who crawled up from the gutter. So what if you’re famous now, Aegis’s top star, an A-lister? You’re still nothing but an actress! You think you’re so high and mighty!"
"And yet, President Quinn’s current woman, Clara Grant, isn’t some noble lady from a prominent family. She’s an actress, just like me." Faye Jennings struggled to keep her voice steady, but beneath the table, her tightly clasped hands betrayed her inner fury.
"You..." Autumn Shelby nearly shot to her feet, but the waiter happened to arrive with her coffee just then, forcing her to swallow her anger.
Once the waiter had left, she sneered at Faye Jennings. "Faye Jennings, do you think you have a better chance than me just because Seth’s current woman is as low-class as you are? Hah. I’m sure you’re well aware that as long as Clara Grant is in the picture, neither of us stands a chance!"
The hand Faye Jennings was using to stir her coffee faltered. Her heart skipped a beat, but she raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about, Miss Shelby? I don’t understand. Did you ask me here today just to spout all this nonsense? If so, then I’m afraid I must be going. I have to hurry back to the set..."
"You’re in love with Seth. I know it." Autumn Shelby cut her off coldly before she could finish. "You rushed to the hospital yesterday for more than just telling Seth who the culprit was, didn’t you? The look of despair on your face when you heard he might not make it... Who would believe you if you said you weren’t in love with him?"
Faye Jennings’s body went rigid for a moment before she forced herself to relax. ’It was true that she used to be secretly in love with Seth Quinn, too afraid to let anyone know. Her feelings of inferiority made her especially terrified of Autumn Shelby finding out.’
’But now, Autumn Shelby was just like her—a woman on the outside of Seth Quinn’s life. Why should she still be afraid of her?’
’Winning Seth Quinn would come down to who had what it takes.’
At this thought, Faye Jennings looked at Autumn Shelby and gave a small, noncommittal smile. "What are you trying to say, Miss Shelby?"
Autumn Shelby took an elegant sip of her coffee before speaking again, her tone unhurried. "Since we share a common enemy, we are allies. We should be on the same side, working together to figure out how to eliminate her."
"And how do you propose we do that, Miss Shelby?" Faye Jennings asked.
"You’re on the same film set with her. You see her day in and day out. You must know a fair bit about her, right? Do you have any dirt on her?"
Faye Jennings almost laughed at Autumn Shelby’s words. ’Does she take me for a fool? If I had any dirt on Clara Grant, I would have used it to take her down myself. Why would I need to team up with her?’
