Chapter 501: Chapter 498: Hurry Up and Have a Baby with Seth
Clara Grant stared in a daze at the watch on his wrist. ’So it’s actually a phone,’ she thought. ’I always assumed it was just a kids’ watch. And it has a recording function, too.’
’It’s not quite like the kids’ smartwatches I’ve seen in stores. Am I really that out of touch?’
Seeing her silence, Cherie wrapped his arms around her arm and said in a wheedling tone, "Aunt Clara, are you mad at me? I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have helped my uncle with that idea. But at least I could prove he was innocent. Please don’t be mad at me. I’ll never come up with a bad idea like that again, I promise."
Looking at Cherie’s chubby little face and his big, expectant eyes gazing up at her, how could Clara possibly stay mad? She couldn’t even bring herself to pretend anymore.
"Okay, I’m not mad at you anymore," Clara said. "Even if it was your idea, you’re just a little kid. You don’t really know the difference between right and wrong yet. That’s when you need proper guidance from an adult. But your uncle..."
As she spoke, Clara glanced at Seth Quinn. "Not only did he fail to guide you properly, but he actually let a five-year-old talk him into it... Anyway, when all is said and done, it’s his fault, plain and simple. So, while Cherie made a mistake, the one who’s really to blame is him! As the accomplice, he’s the worst of all!"
Seth Quinn was left speechless and utterly exasperated. When Rowan Linden apologized to her, she’d said Rowan was just forced to play along, that he, Seth, was the mastermind. It was his fault!
Now that she knew Cherie was the "mastermind," she was saying that he, the accomplice, was the worst of all!
So, whether he was the mastermind or the accomplice, it was his fault either way!
Seeing Seth’s exasperated expression, Jenna stifled a laugh and, not missing a beat, decided to twist the knife. "You know," she said casually, "I could totally see Clara divorcing you over Cherie!"
Seth Quinn: "..."
When Jenna and the others were leaving, Clara Grant walked them to the door. They all stopped at the elevator, and Jenna turned to Clara, her expression apologetic.
"Clara, I’m really the one who should be apologizing," she said. "After all, I’m the one who started this whole chain of events. And I made you worry so much about Cherie and caused you so much trouble. Clara, I’m truly sorry."
Clara Grant smiled at her. "Jenna, it’s all in the past now. I’m really fond of Cherie. The time he stayed with me wasn’t trouble at all. In fact, he brought me a lot of joy. My mom, especially—having Cherie around did wonders for her spirits."
"Besides, if it weren’t for you, Seth and I probably never would have met, let alone be where we are today. So, if anything, I should be thanking you."
The moment she finished, the apologetic look on Jenna’s face vanished without a trace. She laughed heartily and clapped Clara on the shoulder. "So refreshing! I love that you’re so generous and don’t hold a grudge. No need for thanks—just treat me to a meal sometime."
Cherie wanted to roll his eyes so hard. ’My mom has some nerve, doesn’t she?’ he thought. ’She came here to apologize, and she ends up getting someone to treat her to a meal?’
Carter Shaw didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but when it came to his wife, he was completely helpless. Whatever she said or did, he just figured she must be right.
Clara, however, didn’t mind at all. She really liked Jenna’s personality—unpretentious, straightforward, and completely genuine.
It wasn’t often you found a girl like Jenna among the ladies raised in wealthy, prominent families, which made her all the more rare and precious.
So she smiled and nodded. "Deal. I’ll treat you to dinner sometime."
Jenna suddenly seemed to remember something. She grasped Clara’s hand and said, "Clara, since you love kids so much, you and Seth should hurry up and have one of your own. You’ve been married for a while now. Any news yet?"
