Chapter 500: Chapter 497: Seth Quinn’s Innocence

The watch, which Clara Grant had thought was just an ordinary timepiece, actually started playing a recording:

"...Uncle, do you like her or not? I’m telling you, a lot of guys like her. Just now, another man even brought her home. It’s so late. A man who brings a girl home this late definitely has designs on her. If you don’t hurry up and..."

The voice was clearly Cherie’s. He sounded anxious, probably because he was afraid another man would "snatch her away."

"The man who brought her home was me."

That was Seth Quinn’s voice, cool and indifferent.

Seth Quinn hadn’t brought her home many times, so with a moment of reflection, Clara Grant remembered. It was the time Sarah had dragged her to The Elysian Restaurant to try for a role in *A Lifetime of Splendor*. Seth had said something to Sarah, and Sarah had actually abandoned her and taken off. In the end, Seth had forcibly taken her home.

’But when did Cherie call Seth Quinn? How did I not know anything about this?’

Just as she was wondering, Cherie’s voice came through again. "So, Uncle, do you have designs on her?"

For some reason, Clara Grant couldn’t help but prick up her ears and listen intently, desperate to hear how Seth Quinn would answer.

But Seth Quinn didn’t answer. Instead, he changed the subject. "Listen, Cherie, I need you to do something for me."

"What is it? Go ahead, Uncle."

"I need you to test the waters and find out if there’s anything she can’t resist. In other words, what does she need most urgently?"

There was a period of silence on the recording. Cherie seemed to be thinking. After a few seconds, his voice came on again. "She probably needs money the most, right? She hasn’t even graduated from college, but she’s running errands and making deliveries for people every day to earn cash. If she wasn’t short on money, she wouldn’t have to work so hard, would she?"

"She might not be wealthy, but her basic living expenses are covered. What she lacks isn’t a huge sum of money that she desperately needs but is powerless to obtain. That won’t work. Think of something else."

"Isn’t it easy to make her need a lot of money all of a sudden? We just have to come up with a way, right?" Cherie’s mind worked pretty fast. "How about this? I’ll pretend to be sick. A really, really serious illness, the kind that costs a ton of money to cure. Then you can tell her that if she agrees to be with you, you’ll take care of the bill. She’ll definitely say yes."

But Seth Quinn was unconvinced. "You have to remember, you’re not related to her in any way. She’s not necessarily going to throw away her future for you."

Cherie, however, was full of confidence. "Don’t worry, Uncle. She’s a really good person, and she’s very nice to me. There’s no way she’d just leave me to suffer."

"...That’s still not right. Deceiving her with something like that... it’s not a good idea."

Hearing this, Clara Grant finally believed that what Cherie had told her was true. The deceitful idea had indeed come from him, and Seth Quinn really had been against it at first.

Clara Grant felt even more at a loss for whether to laugh or cry. ’What am I supposed to say? What on earth is going on in that little head of Cherie’s? I really don’t know how Jenna Quinn and Carter Shaw usually raise him.’

’Or maybe Cherie is just not like other kids!’

Clara Grant didn’t listen closely to the rest of the recording. It was nothing more than Seth Quinn, persuaded by Cherie’s various arguments, finally agreeing to give the plan a try.

When the recording finished, Cherie fiddled with his watch again and looked at Clara Grant. "Auntie, you believe me now, right? Good thing my call had a recording function. Otherwise, Uncle’s name would never have been cleared."
