Chapter 499: Chapter 496: Actually, It Was My Idea
But even when he was angry, he couldn’t bear to scold her, let alone hit her.
But the moment he thought of it, he would throw her onto the bed and "punish" her mercilessly in a different way!
What’s more, whenever she went out, a troop of bodyguards followed her. She was about to suffocate.
So, the thing she dreaded most right now was anyone mentioning the time she’d snuck back to her home country. But that rotten Seth just had to bring it up.
’He’s absolutely doing this on purpose!’
Jenna Quinn secretly glanced up at Carter Shaw. Sure enough, his expression had darkened, and the arm he had around her tightened slightly, as if he were afraid she would suddenly run off and disappear again.
Jenna was naturally touched that her husband was so anxious about her, but she couldn’t help but wail internally. ’Waaah... That wretched Seth, that rotten Seth! Who knows how Carter is going to "torture" me when we get home tonight.’
...
While Jenna and her group were having a "pleasant," "cozy" chat, on the other side of the room, Cherie was also chattering cheerfully with Clara Grant.
Cherie tilted his little face up to look at Clara Grant. "Aunt Clara, I told you before that I would introduce you to my uncle. I also said my uncle would definitely marry you. See? Now you’re really my auntie, right?"
Clara Grant let out a soft laugh and gently tapped his little nose. "Yes, Cherie always keeps his promises."
Cherie giggled along with her. But after a moment, his expression suddenly turned serious as he looked at Clara Grant and said:
"Aunt Clara, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have lied to you and said I was sick. Even though I did it so you and Uncle could be together, lying is still wrong. So, I’m apologizing. Aunt Clara, can you forgive me?"
Clara Grant looked at his earnest, sincere little face, then reached out and pulled him into a hug. She stroked his head and said with a smile, "Of course I forgive you. That whole thing wasn’t your fault."
As she spoke, Clara Grant glanced at Seth Quinn in the hospital bed and shot him an annoyed glare. Her voice rose a notch. "You’re so little. Someone must have forced you to play along with their act."
Seth Quinn heard her words loud and clear, and he saw her irritated glare just as plainly. He couldn’t help but give a wry smile to himself.
Cherie lifted his head from Clara Grant’s arms and looked at her. "Aunt Clara, do you think it was Uncle’s idea? Is that why you’re mad at him? Aunt Clara, you’re mistaken. Actually, I was the one who came up with the idea."
Of course, Clara Grant didn’t believe him. She assumed Cherie was just trying to make excuses for Seth Quinn. ’A kid who’s only five years old... what could he possibly know...’
’Ugh, although... five-year-old Cherie does seem to know quite a lot. But still, that’s not the kind of idea a little kid could come up with.’
She gently pinched Cherie’s cheek and said, feigning annoyance, "Cherie, you just said you shouldn’t lie to me. How come you’re lying to me again already?"
"I’m not lying to you! I really did come up with the idea. At first, Uncle refused, no matter what. But later, he couldn’t stand my ’rubbing and bubbling,’ so he finally agreed." Seeing she didn’t believe him, Cherie started to get anxious.
Clara Grant laughed at his "rubbing and bubbling." ’He must mean "wheedling and pleading,"’ she thought.
"All right, Cherie. You don’t have to cover for your uncle anymore. I’ve already forgiven him."
"Aunt Clara, I’m really not lying this time! I’m telling the truth! Even if you’ve already forgiven him, I still have to tell you the truth. I can’t let Uncle take the fall for me," Cherie said, looking down and fiddling with the watch on his wrist.
Clara laughed. "You even know about ’taking the fall’? Cherie, you’re really something..."
Before she could finish, Cherie held his wrist up in front of her. "If you don’t believe me, listen to this."
