Chapter 497: Chapter 490: What Did You Call Her?
"Cherie, what did you just call her?" His voice was filled with dissatisfaction. ’This little brat, calling his uncle’s wife "sis." It sounds so awkward.’ ’Isn’t he getting the generations all mixed up?’
Cherie looked at his uncle with wide, dark eyes. His eyes darted back and forth for a moment, and then he quickly changed his tune. "Auntie. I’ll call her Auntie."
Seth Quinn’s lips curved. ’That’s more like it!’
Clara, however, felt it was a bit awkward being called "Auntie." She glanced back at Seth Quinn, then turned to Cherie. "Cherie, don’t listen to him. Call me whatever you want."
"I like calling you Auntie," Cherie answered happily. Then, he called out to her in a bright voice, "Auntie."
Clara: "..."
’Alright, never mind I said anything.’
Just as Clara was about to say something else to Cherie, a flicker of movement in front of her caught her eye. She looked up instinctively and saw Cherie’s mother.
She stood up and unconsciously called out, "Miss Sha—"
She’d barely gotten the name out before she stopped short, realizing her mistake. The woman in front of her wasn’t Miss Shaw; she was Seth Quinn’s older sister, Jenna Quinn.
Although Clara had cut herself off quickly, Jenna had still heard her. She smiled a little sheepishly at Clara. "Clara."
With that, she extended her right hand. "Let’s have a proper introduction. I’m Jenna Quinn, Seth’s older sister and Cherie’s mother."
Clara was stunned for a moment. She reached out to shake Jenna’s hand and called out hesitantly, "...Big Sister."
After shaking hands with Jenna, Clara noticed a man standing behind her. Although she had never met him, the man’s face was a near-perfect copy of Cherie’s. She immediately guessed he must be Cherie’s father and Jenna’s husband.
Sure enough, Jenna stepped aside, fully revealing the man behind her to Clara. "Clara, this is my husband, Carter Shaw, Cherie’s father. Honey," she said, turning to him, "this is Clara, the one I’m always telling you about."
Carter Shaw had the same aloof, uncommunicative air that Seth Quinn put on around strangers, but Carter’s demeanor felt a little gentler.
With a neutral expression, Carter Shaw extended his right hand to Clara. "A pleasure."
"Hello," Clara smiled. She was just about to reach out and shake his hand when a loud cough came from behind her, followed by Seth Quinn’s low cry. "Ah, that hurts."
Forgetting everything else, Clara immediately retracted the hand she’d just extended and spun around to face Seth Quinn. "What’s wrong? Did you pull your wound again?"
’Even though it served him right for hurting his wound by coughing for no reason,’ she couldn’t help but worry.
Carter Shaw retracted his hand as well, not the least bit embarrassed. He simply glanced at Seth Quinn’s disgruntled face and exchanged a look with Jenna. Both of them shared a helpless smile.
’That Seth... Looks like Clara has him wrapped around her little finger. He’s even jealous of his own brother-in-law!’
After a few seconds, once the pain in his wound subsided, Seth Quinn looked over at Jenna and Carter Shaw. He raised an eyebrow in annoyance. "Are you two just going to ignore the injured guy over here and keep chatting away?"
Jenna shrugged and walked over with a smile. "Yes, yes, you’re injured, so you’re the boss. How are you doing, Seth? Not dying on us, are you?"
Seth Quinn shot her a cool glance and said languidly, "I’m too lucky to die."
"As long as you’re not dying, that’s all that matters. You have no idea, when Mom called, I was scared to death. I really thought I was coming to see you one last time. Thankfully, she explained afterward that you were okay. Otherwise, I would’ve come through that door wailing." Jenna patted her chest. Even though she could see he was fine, she still seemed to be shaken with lingering fear.
