Chapter 554: Professor Song and the Others Are Back

The days of the postpartum period felt a bit uncomfortable for Xu Mumu. Her health was excellent, and within just a few days, her sister felt lively again. Yet, the family still wouldn’t let her move around much, and she had to pay attention to a pile of issues. Even hoping to wash her hair became a luxury.

Wanting to take a bath, it was Li Caixia who heated a lot of water for her to wipe herself down.

Just when Xu Mumu was feeling bored, Professor Song and Professor Jian arrived, carrying bags and bags of stuff, and finally came back.

"Where’s Doudou? Where’s Doudou? Let me hold him," Professor Song exclaimed excitedly.

"Grandpa, you’re here! Doudou’s sleeping right now, he’s over here," Xu Mumu said as she moved the cradle over.

Xu Mumu felt like she had a strong odor and didn’t want the baby too close to her.

"This child is really handsome, he will surely be good-looking in the future," Professor Song said, his voice lowered a bit, still unable to hide the excitement in his tone.

"Indeed, he looks very healthy, chubby little guy," Professor Jian carefully touched the little one’s smooth cheek, softer than tofu, not daring to use any force for fear of hurting him.

"He weighed over six pounds at birth," Yin Yang said with a smile, already accustomed to having this little one around. Fortunately, with the help of his mother-in-law and others, otherwise, he and Xu Mumu, as new parents, wouldn’t know what to do.

Professor Song and Professor Jian circled the child several times, never getting enough of him.

Xu Mumu found it amusing to watch from the side, "Grandpa, Sir Jian, how long will you stay this time?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile, noting how the past two years had brought cheer to them, making them appear noticeably youthful.

"We can only stay for ten days, but this semester will go by quickly for sure. We’ll be back for the New Year and will stay around more often after that," Professor Song said with a cheerful look, already looking forward to retirement life.

"Only ten days?" Xu Mumu pouted, quite fond of Professor Song, hoping they could stay longer at home.

"No worries, there’s plenty of time in the future, you’ll grow tired of seeing us eventually," Professor Song chuckled, noting if the semester hadn’t just started, he’d have come over sooner. If Xu Mumu had given birth during the summer vacation, they would’ve definitely returned for this semester.

"We could never tire of having you around, we’re thrilled to have you at home," Xu Mumu replied with a laugh.

With the professors’ return, meals at home became more lavish; the Xu Family members all came over for a meal.

Yet, Xu Mumu continued to eat the postpartum meals prepared by Madam Chun, bland in taste, suitable for breastfeeding, leaving her a bit dejected at the table, although Madam Chun’s skills were superb, making even mild dishes taste great.

The professors played with the child, while Xu Mumu asked them about the situation in the Imperial City.

She had graduated nearly a year ago, and the changes in the Imperial City were considerable, with an economic boom far surpassing that of the provincial capital.

Feeling quite sentimental, Xu Mumu thought the Imperial City, as the national capital, developed in ways unmatched by other cities.

However, as the Imperial City thrived, other areas would prosper too; after all, many other places made decisions based on what happened there.

Regarding the professors’ job transfers, Hua University was extremely reluctant, given that such professors are rare even nationwide.

Yet, despite reluctance, approval was inevitable, otherwise, they might resign, wanting to go back to care for their grandchildren.

The authorities were almost driven to despair upon hearing this reason; what compares to immersing oneself in the sea of knowledge? Over the years, the professors had trained numerous talents for the country.

The transfer orders were withheld, at least, until they finished this semester.

Yin Yang was aware of these matters and communicated with the professors.

Knowing this allowed the professors to settle in; otherwise, they would’ve long since departed.

Xu Mumu inquired about Professor Shen and Professor An, learning that both were well, thus reassured. The professors’ families resided in the Imperial City, making it unlikely they’d move to Shengjiang to retire.

During the professors’ stay, Xu Mumu felt quite relaxed. Besides bringing gifts for the baby, they also brought numerous professional books for her, which delighted Xu Mumu immensely.

With so many people at home, taking care of Doudou didn’t require her assistance; everyone doted on Doudou, so she only needed to feed him.

While the postpartum period was quite dull, the books provided a good pastime when bored. Previously, Yin Yang had fetched many books for her, but she had already read through them, including some professional and pastime literature.

Having finished the professional books, Xu Mumu found the plots of the pastime stories not as intriguing as modern novels, losing interest quickly. Rather than deep literature, she preferred those melodramatic novels. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

With these professional books, Xu Mumu was thrilled, as academia caught her interest more. During her pregnancy, she had harbored many ideas, recording inspirations and hypotheses yet to be tested.

"I knew you’d like this. There were lots more over there, couldn’t bring them all back this time; otherwise, I would’ve brought more," Professor Song said, delighted to see Xu Mumu enjoy the books he brought.

"Grandpa knows me best; no worries, I have plenty of books here. By the time I finish these, I should be done with the postpartum period. After that, I’ll head to the lab; I have lots of ideas to realize," Xu Mumu said with a grin.

"Alright, but now that you have a child, don’t spend all your time in the lab," Professor Song advised with a smile.

"Grandpa, don’t worry, I know my limits," Xu Mumu nodded.

With the books Professor Song brought, she’d read them whenever free, and with him around, any unclear points could be discussed directly, saving her the hassle of figuring it out alone.

Professor Song’s broad knowledge base always gave her new insights during their discussions.

The little one was pampered and carried around by the family every day, and by now, everyone managed to hold him without causing tears, unlike initially when only she and Yin Yang managed it.

Were it not for the little one’s age, Li Caixia would probably have taken a sling to carry him out for fun.

The household’s children also adored Doudou, with the first thing they did after school being to visit him.
