Chapter 152: Rank 1 On The Scene
The Gate was a storm of light, painting the dark sky. Blues, purples, and golds flickered over the buildings and surface of the boundless ocean.
It hung just above the beach, roaring like a never-ending explosion.
In Compound Wave, they were quickly organizing Players to move out, but there were no Knights to field alongside them.
Lieutenant Colin Mathrou was sprinting down the halls of Level 22. Sirens roared with each step he took. Players rushed past him toward the elevators.
He skidded to a stop in front of one of the room doors, covered in sweat and breathing heavily. His key card made the locked door hiss open with the scent of sandalwood.
Red God seemed to like the smell a lot. What he wouldn’t like was someone entering his room.
Psych evals put him as ’Impulsive, slightly sociopathic, and possibly suffering some mental conditions from his mom’s side.’
But this was an emergency. They needed a high-level Player to face this Gate. All their other top choices weren’t currently around.
The warm light of the room flicked on automatically, revealing the spare room with a beige walls, rugs, and a wooden wardrobe, and desk.
But the bed was empty, the white sheets neatly tucked in, and the brown duvet folded on the side.
Red God wasn’t even here.
He reached for his walkie-talkie, pressing down on the button. "He’s not here! He isn’t sleeping!"
Where the hell could he even be? The Compound sirens were flaring. The entire floor vibrated with the thuds of feet running.
But when Red God hadn’t reported to the Launch Zone, the military assumed he was still here.
His walkie buzzed against his chest with static for a brief moment, before someone spoke in an awed tone.
"We know where he is."

Faust and Nirvana studied the Gate with careless expressions. They were standing on the roof of one of the buildings, finally done herding the civilians out of town.
Faust’s voice was like a megaphone with the strength of his lungs, and Nirvana’s skeletons could guide the people out of town.
Despite his excitement, Faust remembered to turn on his stream. He still had to farm notoriety, after all. Viewers poured in almost immediately; ten minutes after he started the stream, he was already at:
[Viewers: 1.15 billion]
[Subscribers: 203 million]
[Patrons: 5]
He gained 150 million more people watching. His subscribers went up a bit, but his Patrons stayed the same. Not that he got much from them anyway.
[Lord_Level: You’re back. Finally. You should do lifestyle streams bro, almost everyone does them now. Since not everyone can get a Gate.]
[Player#17392936: Eh, it’s better without the constant hours. When he comes on, you always know what you’re getting.]
"I was on a date, but a Gate opened up nearby," Faust explained, turning the stream camera mentally to show Nirvana, who was raising more skeletons.
She covered her face. "No, please."
He turned the camera off her quickly. "Well, anyway. We’re about to beat this entire Gate ourselves."
[Lord_Level: Isn’t that a bit too ambitious? Even Knights have trouble with Gates sometimes.]
[Friga: Ouuu, Necromancer girl. Score.]
[RandomGunz: Please use Fireball on the Gate, I want to see something.]
[Dirna: Can you use the clones skill more? I really like that one.]
[Bluefather: Keep your wits about you. Don’t push yourself; just escape if you have to.]
[Lord_Level: Oh, it’s his dad. Hello, sir.]
Faust left the stream comments behind—Arthur knew his son wouldn’t recklessly kill himself if he didn’t have to. And Compound Wave was glowing in the background, high on the mountain, with red emergency lights.
A siren had been screaming into the air so constantly that it had become background noise to Faust.
With a small flash of will, he called out his six summons. They came into existence with flashes of silver, prismatic emerald light effects, and the shriek of cracking glass.
[Lord_Level: He’s bringing out the big guns.]
[Ledgerhand: The Scourger is so damn creepy. Those faces on the wings, and the empty, bloody eye sockets too.]
[Gargar: Look, the Red Wolf is still pissed! Lol.]
The giant red wolf was the size of a truck, yet it growled furiously at Nirvana while hiding behind Faust. Shameless little dog.
The Direhorse pawed the ground nervously as it stared at the Gate.
The two silver summons bowed at Faust before drawing their weapons. The knight banged its giant one-handed sword against the heavy shield, while the archer notched an arrow.
The green wind elemental swirled around Faust, more inquisitive than disdainful now. Its glowing green eyes narrowed, feeling his surge in Combat power as its own power increased too.
But it also sensed the power hidden in him. The Gold-rank skill no regular player should have.
The Nine-faced Scourger stared down at him, a smile on its flat face revealing all those terrifying teeth. Its wings stretched, and the faces on their spines grinned too.
’I guess you like that, you giant bastard.’
Nirvana’s skeletons scattered around them, picking up weapons as she dropped them from her spatial bag.
Arming her small army required her to keep an armory within her bag, leaving no space for other stuff. Most of her stuff was kept with Thalia.
Silver ghosts popped into existence around her, wielding their own weapons and armor, their legs floating inches off the floor. They moaned with pained voices and had faces of misery.
They both summoned their armor.
Faust’s white steel with a red trim glowed in the Gate’s light. It was smooth and mostly edgeless, like a medieval knight.
Nirvana’s armor resembled the jagged, black armor of a villain, with skulls as her pauldrons and a black steel crown on her head.
With the circus of freaks and monsters around them, the townspeople were justifiably shocked. What the hell was going on in their little town?
But the stream was hyped. Gifts were coming in before the battle: health potions, stamina potions, and essence extracts that would increase specific attributes.
[Lord_Level: I was saving my stream points to buy protective equipment, but man, you’ve got me fucking hyped.]
[Higuruma: I’m also spending some for him. I will be moving toward Compound Wave, so might as well help my benefactor.]
[Franny: Good investment honestly. I like the way he’s protecting the citizens; you’ll be safe there.]
[Gladiator#2849: TAKE MY POINTS! LET’S BLOW THIS PLACE TO HELL.]
