Chapter 151: Unexpected Fun

Nirvana started the service softly and just rallied with him. The ball pinged over the table rhythmically. The speed kept going up, their hands moving faster and faster, always perfectly returning the ball.

Nirvana was making a statement by not moving an inch. Her center of gravity was low. She grinned as she adjusted her hand each time for a perfect return as if to spite Faust.

Faust responded by smashing the ball from the right down left with a bang. The ball turned into a white blur.

But Nirvana leaned over and picked the ball as it bounced under the table so perfectly it landed just on the edge of his table and had him jumping.

He couldn’t return it, so the point was hers.

Their rapid-fire game attracted a lot of eyes. People gathered around the table, giving a good distance to not get in the way.

"They’re so fast!"

"That smash sounded like a gunshot."

"How does she pick those so easily?"

"She’s kinda hot, but those eyes aren’t normal, are they?"

"Kinda’s an understatement. Maybe she’s a vampire, haha."

Faust ignored them, playing like a lick of fire; his hands darted to the ball and smashed it across the board like a lightning bolt. He took sharp, fast steps and hit every ball that rose a bit too high like it owed him money.

He really wanted to win, but he had to admit Nirvana had this game written in her bones.

Her hand darted all over to keep up with Faust’s fast returns, but other than that, she was static, only leaning back slightly to break force every time she received the ball.

"I’m not that good, huh?" Nirvana chirped. She was winning 4-0. If it reached five, it would be love.

Faust had stopped smashing the ball and tried to get Nirvana at the angles she had to move to return, forcing her to move.

"Okay, I have to give it to you. You’re a bit good." He jumped to receive a cut that almost went back to her side after bouncing in his. "Maybe that’s why you’re so good with a sword."

Nirvana’s head finally turned from the ball. "You really think so?"

Faust smashed the ball across the table.

"Four to one." He grinned. "No Love here."

She had a scandalous look on her face. Someone from the crowd retrieved the ball for her, putting it in her open hand without her even turning back.

She spun the ball in her palm for a moment before turning to him.

"I’m going to kill you," Nirvana promised with a sweet smile.

What a strange date.

A few hours later, they sat at the food court, having dinner, so to speak.

All the guys that had been staring at Nirvana all day got to see her dismantle a full chicken and like ten other family meals with Faust. They looked like they just saw a ten-car pile-up.

Faust, and mostly Nirvana, built a small crowd before they finally left to eat. Their superhuman speed and reactions outed them as Players almost immediately, and so people looked for them on social media and easily found them.

Faust was easily more famous. He had follower counts near twenty million at this point. Not counting the stream on the Origin Trials that was in billions.

But Nirvana’s skills at the games got a warmer reception from the frequent visitors of the arcade. She was leading him 13 wins to 8 in different games.

And he wasn’t letting her leave this place till he was ahead.

But for now, they were on break. Nirvana’s newfound popularity got them free food, so they were tasting everything at the food court and rating it from one to ten.

She smacked her lips with a dazed look. "I’m going to have to give that chicken a ten."

"You’ve given everything tens so far. If everything’s a ten, nothing’s a ten," Faust complained.

"What can I say? I enjoyed myself. I guess they could have made the skin a bit crispier or made sure the flavors reached in deeper. But it was good, so it’s a ten."

Faust pointed at her. "Now that’s a review. I’d say it’s pretty okay. Above a 6 but not quite a seven for me since the steak was a seven. Six point five."

Nirvana rubbed her belly, waving his nitpicking off. They had eaten everything here and were still able to move. Their Constitution was in the hundreds, so it wasn’t unbelievable.

But even Faust, who had to eat the food, still couldn’t believe it.

People left their food to openly stare at them, trying to decipher where all that food was going. Nirvana’s belly wasn’t even protruding that much. Faust looked barely winded.

’I didn’t even get the meat sweats.’

"So what’s next?" Faust said, leaning back into his green plastic chair. "We can play all night—I’m not saying we have to. If you want to run away while you’re winning, I won’t blame you. My comeback is quite intimidating."

Nirvana looked left to empty space like facing an imaginary audience and pointed her thumb at him. "Who does he think is afraid of him?"

She leaned forward. "I’m up to go all night if you can handle losing. This is the best day ever."

"Really?"

"I... it might not be for you, but it is for me..."

He reached forward and gripped her hand. "I love it too. Thanks for asking me out."

The honest smile on her face was a reward on its own. He still wanted to win tonight, though.

They both got up to get back to their games when something made them freeze.

"You feel that too?" Faust asked, remembering her Spirit was decently high, too.

"I don’t know," Nirvana said, shaking her head. "It doesn’t feel right. Or wrong. It’s just different. Like the air got charged with electricity."

Her spirit was high enough to get a general feeling of magic in the air.

But to Faust, it was like a valve opened somewhere, flooding a pipe with pressure. He could even feel the direction of the source of the mana, like it was a wind buffeting him. His skin tingled with the heat and force.

"A Gate opened nearby."
