Chapter 146: Earth Knight

Faust and everyone from Novice Village #1 in Compound Zeta were moved to Compound Wave.

Nothing really changed between the two Compounds for him. They were huge circular buildings with deep underground layers.

Compound Wave was built atop a mountain some distance from a seaside city, overlooking the city below like a white cork capping the mountain.

It was two days before the first Gate appeared.

Faust watched from his laptop in his room as Players were sent out to deal with it. Most of the gates were confined to Antarctica by the Spatial tunnels built by the new gods and the ring shape of earth landmass.

But as more and more of them formed, the gates drew closer and closer to human settlements.

The monsters were dropped into the ocean and forced to swim to the land that was often miles away. Or drown.

The first to appear on the shores of earth were two giant, grey monsters with six arms. Their bodies were thin, sleek and hairless like otters. Those gangly long arms allowed them to swim across the channel towards the land.

On their backs were gangs of kobolds, dog-like beasts on two feet, wielding long spears and cutlasses.

They were met by a group of almost fifty players dispatched by Compound Green and one Olympic Knight.

The Mars Knight, Berserk, was a man that towered over others with a powerful build and a cocky smile. He carried on his shoulder a sword bigger than some people.

His wild black hair was stuffed into the helmet of his special knight armor. Red steel with black accents. The full-plate armor glowed under the harsh sun like blood and his black cape fluttered behind him in the harsh winds.

A helicopter circled the blood-pumping scene with a newscaster that spoke in a low unbelieving voice barely audible over the helicopter wings.

Faust clicked his tongue and just reduced the volume. All he needed was to see the fight.

The Players charged at the monster and engaged them in a battle that shook the workd around them.

The Mars Knight charged into the two giant otter monsters and got smashed back. He skipped off the ground and bounced a few metres back before stopping himself. Hand tearing a deep row in the earth.

A mage sent a powerful boulder into one of the monsters, stopping it in place. While another one summoned vines from the earth to restrict the second monster.

Berserk charged forward then. Far faster now than he had been previously. Glowing with a transparent red energy.

The Divine power he held as a n Avatar of one of the gods.

He leapt up and the ground exploded beneath him. As he soared through the air, the red energy surged into his blade, expanding it as he came down on the monster with a titanic slash.

BOOM!

The ground erupted as dust washed over the small clearing. The helicopter circled the area some more. The newscaster leaned out some more trying to see what was happening.

An arrow cut through the dust cloud and speared through the newscaster suddenly.

The man fell from the helicopter before anyone could do anything.

Faust winced a little but that was their fault. This wasn’t a tv show, it was an active battleground.

As the helicopter fled the scene, Faust sighed and switched to the system’s stream function. He filtered it to earth streams that were active. Most people were doing lifestyle streams which were actually gaining large viewerships.

But soon he found one of them which was in the battle. He had to pay twenty stream points for an extra subscription. He was already subscribed to five people.

Overall, humanity’s first battle against the Origin trial’s monsters was a success. But these were wet, cold monsters that had to travel miles to get here.

The first days in Compound Wave were slow and tired. People explored the special battlefield meant to simulate multiple environments. The movie theaters and food courts on the upper levels were always buzzing with people.

Outside green energy lit up the sky and flooded the area. The Avatar of Dia the Builder, the Earth Knight, controlled and directed a symphony of construction.

Steel tore and screamed as blocks of stones and beams of steel flew through the air. The buildings pulled themselves together, leaving the normal builders a bit stunned.

They helped where they could—painted doors, connected pipes and arranged wires—but they were solely outmatched.

The things Divine power built weren’t just mass produced structures. Dia created structures that orthodox construction disapproved of, connecting buildings in strange tunnels, shoring temporary structures before turning them into glass.

She built the city in two days.

It would have been hours but the Earth Knight, a brown-haired girl named Kylie, could only channel Divine power for so long.

On the last day of her building, Kylie went around greeting the Players of Novice Village #1. She was cheery and beautiful in a down to earth way that made every single man she interacted with to flirt with her.

Unintentionally, she began to avoid them, but on the level zero, strolling through the titanic hallways she met a boy with red hair.

She jolted immediately, glancing around for where to hide, but no one else was here. She had just escape three other guys, jumping from the pot into the fire.

Because she recognised this guy.

His face was trending everywhere. The rank one of Novice Village #1. A village that almost took three of the ten Olympic Knight positions.

The only reason they took two was because this guy was crazy enough to reject being the Pluto Knight.

Though Kylie was also Rank one in her Novice Village. Why was she so scared of this guy? Every other guy she met today was trying to flirt with her so why not this guy?

"Hey... um, Red God, right?"

Faust stopped and looked her up, recognising the green and grey armor of the Earth Knight, then before a pleasant smile formed on his face.

"Oh, it’s you. I was planning on greeting you before you left."

Kylie’s mind immediately went to him trying to ask her out. He was good-looking though, and kind of mysterious.

She crossed her hands behind her back nervously. "That’s nice. I wanted to meet you too. I saw your battle against the troll. You move unlike any other Player."

"You looked me up?"

Kylie’s face turned red and she waved her hands through the air frantically. "No! I just, um, saw it on Ingram reels! There’s a lot—" she coughed to slow herself down "—stories and theories about you right now."

Faust nodded slowly like he didn’t really care. "So, onto what i really wanted."

"I-i can’t date you right now. I have to focus on my knight duties and some family stuff," Kylie stammered, "But later we can—"

"Woah woah, slow down," he nervously looked around like he expected someone to be lurking. "I have a girlfriend. And for your own safety, please don’t say that around her. I was just going to ask you if you wanted to spar. I want to see how strong an Olympic Knight is."

Kylie’s vision buzzed as the embarrassment washed over her. It felt like she couldn’t breathe. Oh, what she would give for the ground to open up and swallow her right now.

She spun and started running to the Spatial highway. Faust raised a hand but she wasn’t turning back.
