Chapter 145: Pluto Knight, New goals
The names of the gods rang in Faust’s ears. They weren’t exactly what he expected. Each of them seemed like one of the many facets of humanity, both good and bad.
He expected more majesty.
They felt like just superhumans.
But their aura was definitely majestic.
He leaned back into the chair, his spirit still trembling under the ridiculous force of the ten pillars of divine light. But finally, the strength began to recede.
Nirvana finally calmed down beside him, but her eyes were still wide and white with fright.
Ding!
[Now that our gods are here, let the selection begin. If you receive a prompt from them, you have been chosen. You can accept or reject.]
Ding!
[Faust, you have been offered the position of Pluto Knight by Klaus! Do you accept?]
[Yes] [No]
To reject, Faust had to reach up and press "No" physically. This made sure many people, and most definitely cameras, caught him. They whispered among themselves—there were only ten roles for Knights and tens of millions of people.
To be selected, you had to be excellent beyond measure.
In seconds, the selections were done. The pillars surged upward into the air, passing through the auditorium roof.
The giant screen behind the stage showed videos all over the world where pillars of light from each god rose into the sky and connected to other pillars.
Then they converged on a single person.
One of the pillars came down on Compound Zeta’s auditorium, striking a few seats behind Faust.
The light was icy blue and transient. The people around the person it came down on jumped back, giving the boy some distance. They slowed down and sped up erratically as the god’s power distorted time.
This was Chronos the Reaper’s power. Likely the same power Faust had confronted in the sedan with Larson and Raid.
The system announced the names of the chosen and showed their confused faces on screen as the light dispersed.
[Saturn Knight—Tiger]
It was the Japanese boy behind them in the auditorium. His black hair floated with all the blue energy around him. He gasped and turned around, then studied his hands. His movements were jerky and displaced. Like a lagging game.
[Venus Knight—Timeless Trophy]
Faust stiffened as Jane appeared on the screen. Her pale skin and jet-black hair were starker under the pink energy around her. Her green eyes turned on the camera with an effortless yet seductive gaze.
Lots of people clapped for no reason. Okay, there was a reason, but Faust didn’t like her.
’That’s a strange selection for someone supposedly driven by logic.’
[Neptune Knight—Protea]
A beautiful, white-haired girl appeared on the screen. She lounged against her seat, silver-blue energy flowing around her. She didn’t even bother looking up at the camera. Her icy-blue eyes were fixed on the ground.
[Mars Knight—Berserk]
The man shown had wild black hair flowing down his back, a muscular build, and a wolf-like grin. It felt like he was looking down on everyone as the dark red energy swirled around him ominously.
[Mercury Knight—Shaking Spears]
An older gentleman was shown. He looked almost sixty. He wore a simple suit, black hair and goatee styled perfectly. He restrained the silver divine energy around him quickly, spinning his cane and waving casually at the camera.
[Earth Knight — Kylie]
[Saturn Knight — Jose]
[Uranus Knight — Oro]
[Sun Knight — Lightbringer]
He had barely been listening for most of them, just clipping their faces and saving them to fight later. But the last two made him sit up and just stare.
’Now things are getting fun!’
[Pluto Knight — Fortress]
The Pluto Knight—a position he had just rejected—was taken by a golden-haired boy with grey eyes. A proud smirk twisted his lips; his handsome face was wrapped in deep, shadowy energy.
William.
"He’s not even in the top ten in our village?!" Nirvana shouted in disbelief. Multiple people turned to her, surprised by how loud she was but also interested. "Last one has to be you, Faust."
Faust realized she had been waiting patiently to hear his name and celebrate with him. The scent of rain and something floral pulsed from her. It wasn’t perfume, but rather her emotions were read by Faust’s high spirit.
She was worried about him.
Smiling sheepishly, Faust put a hand around her shoulder. "Don’t wait for it. I rejected the position of Pluto Knight. Tch, that petty god must have given it to Willy to spite me."
Nirvana’s jaw dropped. Everyone watched him with wide eyes. He wasn’t sure, but there was no way Klaus the Void randomly had his eyes on both Faust and William out of the millions of ppl playing.
Speaking of William, he wasn’t in this compound. Faust thought about it for a while and guessed he must have lived farther away from here.
Many people were gawking at him right now, gossiping about what he just said.
"Is he serious? He rejected the position?"
"It’s an obvious lie from a butthurt loser. You think anyone would reject that? He’s just saving face."
"Bro, that’s the Rank one from Novice Village #1. They were one of the few villages to complete the two hidden quests!"
"You really think a Rank one got nothing?"
"There are thousands of villages. Thousands of number ones. Thousands of people probably stronger than him."
Faust had to stop Nirvana from getting up. She was really strong when she was pissed. He laid a kiss on her cheek as she gnashed her teeth. There was plenty of time to prove them wrong.
’I actually hope there’s a Rank one out there that’s stronger than me... so I can beat them.’
For now, the final Knight flashed on the screen. It made Thalia grimace, but Faust’s grin widened.
[Jupiter Knight — Gamebreaker]
Jason’s smile was small and knowing. He knew from the beginning what he would be. For now, he pretended to be humble, scratching his black hair and waving slowly.
[And those are our Ten Olympic Knights! The protectors of your planet and the order between players!]
[If you wish to align yourself with a faction to gain some divine skills and equipment, stay ready. The Factions feature goes live immediately after this!]
Faust sank into his chair, thinking slowly. They would get a special Schema for becoming a knight. Skills that would put most Silver-grades to shame. And equipment that would put them leagues above others.
They would become far stronger immediately. Faust rubbed his chin, unable to hold back a smile.
Hopefully strong enough to give him a run for his money.
