Chapter 407: Chapter 407: Envy and Jealousy

Leah stared straight into Vincent’s eyes, which showed tenderness even towards a lamppost, and gave a perfectly gentle smile.

"Of course, I’d love to work for The Hawthorne Group, but that depends on whether I’m competent enough to deserve it." She revealed a mischievous expression like a young girl, "Mr. Hawthorne, can you promise me one thing?"

Vincent instinctively thought she wanted him to pull some strings to get her into The Hawthorne Group.

"Sure."

Leah: "I haven’t even said it yet, and you already agreed."

Vincent enjoyed her naive and lively demeanor; she resembled Tanya Sinclair from back in the day, but was more vibrant. Vibrant enough to make him feel unburdened.

"Then go ahead," he cooperated.

Leah: "Alright, when I apply, you can’t be the interviewer, otherwise I’ll crack up."

Vincent was surprised this was her main concern and was amused, "Just that?"

"Yes. You’ve promised me, no backing out."

Vincent’s smile widened: "Okay."

A white sports car stopped at the entrance.

Yvonne Hawthorne walked in, clad in a Chanel suit and exuding a wealthy aura, immediately spotting Vincent’s silhouette.

Her second glance naturally landed on Leah, whose smile was as radiant as a blooming flower!

Yvonne was so angry her teeth hurt, "That little tramp has come to my brother’s company to flaunt herself! Just watch how I deal with you!"

Yvonne stormed over in her high heels.

"Brother," she shouted, catching everyone’s attention.

Vincent frowned slightly upon seeing Yvonne approach, "Why are you out? Didn’t I tell you to rest at home?"

"I wanted to have lunch with you!" Yvonne directly linked her arm with Vincent’s, casting a cold glance at Leah with a fake smile,

"Miss Thorne, shouldn’t you be preparing for internships and your dissertation as a graduate of Northwood University? Clinging to my brother, are you planning to just live off a man once you graduate instead of working? Please have some self-respect, don’t disgrace the name of Northwood University; and our Hawthorne family’s thresholds are not for just any random person to enter."

Her voice was loud enough for everyone in the lobby to hear clearly.

Vincent reprimanded softly, "Yvonne, what are you saying?"

Yvonne retorted discontentedly, "Brother, do you even know what kind of person she is? She’s just someone from the countryside, dirt poor, deliberately creating opportunities to seduce you!"

She turned and called the security, "Security, you let in such indecent women? Quickly drag her out!"

Vincent gripping her arm tightly, supressing his anger.

"Yvonne Hawthorne, stop making trouble!"

Leah bit her lip, head lowered, looking hurt and subdued.

"I’m sorry, Ms. Hawthorne, you might have misunderstood. Mr. Hawthorne is my benefactor, I just wanted to thank him, absolutely nothing else..."

"What are you pretending for?" Yvonne’s fury grew even larger seeing Leah’s plaintive manner!

This tramp, with her slightly bowed head, looked almost identical to Tanya Sinclair!

Two tramps, one took the man she fancied away, now the other is trying to snatch her brother!

Yvonne despised Leah more with each glance, directly reaching for her.

She didn’t use much force, but Leah suddenly cried out in pain, "Ah!"

Leah frowned tightly, eyes glistening with tears, appearing in great pain.

Yvonne was both furious and anxious, "Why are you shouting? I didn’t even use any force!"

Vincent, unable to tolerate it any longer, instantly pulled Yvonne aside, "Have you had enough? Security!" His face turned ghastly, calling over security.

"Escort Ms. Hawthorne out! Cancel her access privileges, without my permission, she’s not allowed into the company anymore!"

Yvonne could barely believe her ears, "Brother! What are you doing? You’re throwing your own sister out for this tramp?!"

Of course, the security knew who paid their wages, politely asking Yvonne to leave.

"Ms. Hawthorne, please don’t make it difficult for us."

Yvonne was furious, "Get lost! Just dare touch me with your filthy hands!"

The two security guards exchanged glances, looking towards Vincent, seeing his angry expression, they lifted Yvonne’s arms and dragged her out.

Leah watched coldly as Yvonne was dragged out, a slight curve on the corner of her lips.

Yvonne, the game between us is just beginning.

She’s not Tanya Sinclair, always accommodating and tolerating; anyone who slaps her once, Leah would certainly return ten slaps!

Leah secretly pinched her arm hard where Yvonne had just held.

"I’m sorry," Vincent apologized, somewhat headache-ridden, speaking on behalf of Yvonne, "My sister embarrassed you."

"It’s fine," Leah smiled, "I know what kind of person I am. Plus, Mr. Hawthorne, it’s enough that you trust me. I don’t care how others see me."

Vincent’s gaze added a touch of admiration and compassion.

"I’ll treat you to lunch today. Let’s go."

Leah followed Vincent, walking towards the corner’s executive elevator, and she could feel all the employees’ eyes in the lobby were fleetingly on her.

No one dared to blatantly scrutinize her.

In this building, Vincent represents absolute power.

Leah watched Vincent’s back, with both envy and jealousy.

If she were born into a wealthy family, possessing Hawthorne’s resources, she would certainly do better than Vincent!
