Chapter 404: Chapter 404: Critical Condition
Rhovan, Aris private hospital rooftop helipad.
A luxurious private jet landed steadily, bearing the Monroe Family’s crest on the fuselage.
Jasper Monroe got off the plane, and the newly appointed senior assistant Henry was already waiting.
As Jasper Monroe went to Swiss for business these past two days, he arranged for Henry to oversee the hospital side. No matter what needs or troubles Declan Pierce had, Henry would handle them fully on his behalf.
"Mr. Monroe." Henry strode forward, dressed in a black suit, with a black tie, exuding a solemn aura.
Jasper Monroe paused his tall figure.
He vaguely sensed something amiss, opened his mouth but failed to speak immediately.
"Mr. Monroe." Naturally, Henry knew what Jasper Monroe wanted to ask. He lowered his head and said in a deep voice, "After the surgery, Mr. Pierce developed severe complications... he’s currently in the ICU. Janne Hayes is waiting outside, but Mr. Pierce’s condition is very grim. Dr. Wells advised us to be mentally prepared in advance."
"..." Jasper Monroe struggled to stabilize his emotions, "Take me to him."
He needed to see Declan Pierce’s condition with his own eyes!
Henry led Jasper Monroe to the door of the intensive care ward, Janne was guarding at the entrance, and he didn’t look well. His eyes were bloodshot, and the dark circles under his eyes showed how long he had been awake.
"Mr. Monroe." Seeing Jasper Monroe appear, Janne slightly bowed his head.
Jasper Monroe silently patted his shoulder, "Go take a rest. I’ll go in and see him."
Janne managed to pull a wry smile: "Before going into surgery, President Pierce said you would definitely make it before his last breath. He knows you well."
The words "last breath" sounded harsh, Jasper Monroe pressed his lips but said nothing.
According to procedure, before entering, he had to undergo a full-body disinfection and change into protective clothing.
Fully prepared, Jasper Monroe approached Declan Pierce’s bedside. For a moment, he almost refused to acknowledge the man weak to the point of relying on a ventilator to sustain life signs was Declan Pierce!
The Declan Pierce in his memory was clearly a brilliant yet cold and ruthless madman...
"Declan Pierce." Jasper Monroe called his name lowly, his voice betraying a faint tremor.
Though Declan Pierce lacked the strength to open his eyes, Jasper Monroe knew he heard, as his heart monitor showed changes.
"Hang in there." Jasper Monroe whispered, "Declan, without you, this world would be too dull for me. A scourge should last a thousand years, someone as exceptional as you should at least live to a hundred."
He saw Declan Pierce’s eyelashes flutter slightly.
Jasper Monroe leaned closer: "Don’t forget, Tanya Sinclair is still thinking of bringing back baby grass to save you. You love her so much; you can’t miss seeing her one last time, right?"
Tears slowly seeped from the corner of Declan Pierce’s eyes, absorbed into his hairline.
...
Pyralis Island.
In a coma, Tanya Sinclair dreamed.
In her dream, she returned to Aris with baby grass, and as soon as she got off the plane, she saw Declan Pierce’s figure not far away, arms open wide.
Filled with happiness, she ran towards him, but the distance between them grew further and further, until eventually, she could no longer see him...
"Declan Pierce!" Tanya Sinclair awoke with a start, tears spilling from the corners of her eyes.
Tanya Sinclair softly wiped away the tears, gradually returning to reality.
She found herself lying in bed, looking around at a simple yet relatively clean little room.
As she lowered her head, she saw she was dressed in a clean, breathable cotton-linen outfit, very characteristic of the local style.
The dagger Felix Kendall gave her was placed at the bedside. Still not fully alert, Tanya Sinclair heard someone push the door open and quickly grabbed the dagger, hiding it behind her as she looked alertly at the newcomer.
Yet, upon seeing the visitor clearly, Tanya Sinclair was momentarily stunned: "Flora?"
The newcomer was none other than the young girl Flora, who had taken care of her on the ship and was later held hostage by her...
Flora was carrying food, her gaze at Tanya Sinclair timid and somewhat fearful.
"Ms. Sinclair... I’ve brought you food. Please don’t hurt me..."
Tanya Sinclair: "..."
Holding Flora hostage was indeed unreasonable.
Tanya Sinclair rarely felt guilty, bowing her head and rubbing her nose, silently putting away the dagger clenched in her palm.
"Flora, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to harm you; I was just trying not to be trapped here and took the chance to run..."
"I know." Flora replied, "No one wants to stay as a hostage; even previous hostages have tried to escape. But their endings were dire, beaten beyond recognition when caught. Only Ms. Sinclair remained untouched..."
Flora, saying this, seemed somewhat relieved.
Tanya Sinclair mocked: "That’s because I’m still useful."
She looked at Flora, sincerely apologizing, "I’m sorry, Flora. I just want to go home; someone’s waiting for me..."
"I know you didn’t want to hurt me, Ms. Sinclair; you were trembling when you took me hostage." Flora set the food down, softly urging Tanya Sinclair, "Please eat, Ms. Sinclair. On my way here, I overheard them saying you are going to be taken to Chamber One soon to meet that strange person."
"Strange person?"
