Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Gabriel Walker’s Downfall
Ivy Sherwood wandered in circles and couldn’t find her way out. In the end, a maid had to lead her out.
Norhaven was truly massive. While it couldn’t compare to Aethelgard, where every inch of land was as precious as gold, securing such a large plot in the city center was no small feat.
Ivy Sherwood had marveled before at who could be wealthy enough to buy such a huge plot of land. It turned out to be Quentin Blackwood.
Ivy Sherwood hailed a taxi and went straight to her studio instead of home.
On the way, Ivy Sherwood received a call from Nina Scott. She told Nina to meet her at the company to talk.
When Ivy Sherwood arrived at her company’s building, she saw Nina Scott was already there, craning her neck to look around with an expression of disappointment.
Ivy Sherwood walked over and patted her on the shoulder. "What are you looking at?"
"I thought you’d be showing up to work in a luxury car today!" Nina Scott’s face was a mask of gossipy curiosity.
"What luxury car? Where would I get a luxury car?"
"Don’t play dumb with me! I know everything!"
’Something this huge happened, and Ivy didn’t even tell me!’
"What is it you know?" Ivy Sherwood gave Nina a curious look. ’What does she know that I don’t?’
"Have you eaten?" Nina asked.
"I haven’t had the chance."
Nina pulled out some breakfast. "I knew you wouldn’t have eaten. I brought you something."
It was a sandwich. Ivy Sherwood tore open the packaging and started eating.
Nina had also brought milk. As she unwrapped a straw and stuck it in the carton, she spoke.
"But still, is that Quentin Blackwood really so cheap? Didn’t even give you breakfast?"
"COUGH COUGH COUGH..."
Ivy Sherwood immediately choked on her food at Nina’s words. Nina quickly handed her the milk. "Be careful! How can you choke just from eating?"
"It’s because you’re being ridiculous! What does this have to do with Quentin Blackwood?"
"No relation? Where did he take you last night? Did he do anything to you? I heard from my brother that you were drugged yesterday. And Quentin Blackwood got revenge for you and even carried you away."
"Ivy, what is going on between you and Quentin Blackwood? You have to tell me!"
’First thing this morning, my brother was rushing me to come find Ivy. He even told me to find out what was going on between her and Quentin Blackwood.’
"There’s no relationship. It’s probably just because I’m still officially Silas Blackwood’s fiancée." Ivy played the one card she hated to admit she held.
"If word got out that I was being bullied by those men, the Blackwood Family would lose face, too," Ivy explained.
That made sense, so Nina nodded.
"So nothing happened between you and Quentin Blackwood last night?"
"What do you think could have happened? I spent three hours soaking in a cold bath last night!"
"Sigh!" Nina looked disappointed. "And here I thought you’d be the one to pull that holy prodigy from his pedestal."
"Gods aren’t so easily pulled from their pedestals. You’ve been watching too much television," Ivy said, tapping Nina on the head.
"I’m not talking to you about this anymore. I have to get to work."
Hitting a dead end with Mr. Carter meant Ivy still hadn’t found a sales channel. She had been thinking about it on her way over. If it came down to it, she would stop looking for distributors and just sell the products herself, building her own brand from the ground up.
But that approach would be much more troublesome, and the difficulties would likely multiply. After all, she’d have to find a storefront, handle all the marketing and planning, and even after opening, there was no guarantee anyone would buy a perfume from a brand no one had ever heard of. Making a name for herself wouldn’t be easy.
It wasn’t that Ivy hadn’t considered this before. She knew she might not have the energy to handle everything on her own, which was why she had wanted to focus on creating the perfume and let people with capital and resources handle the sales.
But now, it seemed she would have to rely on herself.
But before she did that, Ivy called the police and reported Mr. Carter, Gabriel Walker, and all the others.
She had the recording, and the restaurant had security cameras. While there weren’t any in the restroom itself, there were cameras in the hallway. As long as they captured all of them entering the women’s restroom, that would be proof.
...
When the police pushed the door open, the private room was a scene of pure debauchery. A pungent smell immediately made them wrinkle their brows in disgust.
The room was filled with men, none of them wearing any clothes. It was obvious at a glance what had transpired there.
This was public debauchery, an offense they could be locked up for. On top of that, someone had filed a police report for attempted rape.
"Wake up! All of you, wake up!"
The police started shaking the men on the floor, who gradually began to stir.
Upon waking and seeing the police, some of them began to panic.
Gabriel Walker, in particular, was in excruciating pain, especially in a certain unspeakable area. He had never imagined in his entire life that he would be... by a man. And not just one, but several!
This was the humiliation of a lifetime. And now, they were stark naked, caught by the police.
"We’ve received a report about you. You’ll have to come with us."
"You’ve got it all wrong, Officer! We’re the victims here, I swear!" he cried out, still wincing in pain.
But the police were impartial. They forced some clothes onto the men and hauled them away.
They were led out through the restaurant where they’d booked the room. Many patrons saw them, and some even pulled out their phones to record videos.
Gabriel Walker wanted to cover his face, but with his hands in cuffs, there was nothing he could do.
"I heard these guys were having an orgy here last night and someone reported them. Now the police are here to arrest them."
"Really? People actually do that? They’ve got some nerve. I’m posting this online."
The video was quickly uploaded to the internet, their faces captured in perfect clarity.
Gabriel Walker, in particular, was a fairly well-known figure and was immediately recognized by many people online.
Gabriel Walker had married into money. His father-in-law was a politician, and not a low-ranking one at that.
At that very moment, his father-in-law was holding a political press conference with his daughter—Gabriel Walker’s wife—by his side.
The incident blew up, quickly shooting to the top of trending topics, and people started seeing the news.
A number of sharp reporters smelled a story and latched on, asking a direct question.
"Director Young, excuse me, is this man your son-in-law? He bears a striking resemblance."
"What man?" Gabriel Walker’s father-in-law took the phone. After seeing the video and reading the description, his face went completely dark.
He could barely maintain his composure. Gabriel Walker’s wife saw it too and was instantly furious, but she knew they couldn’t possibly admit to it under the circumstances.
’That useless piece of trash! All he does is ruin things!’
Gabriel Walker’s wife spoke up. "Dad, why are people spreading such baseless rumors? Gabriel was home all last night, and he didn’t go out this morning."
"That’s not my husband. It’s all slander."
"In that case, Miss Young, would you mind giving your husband a call right now?"
"I’m sorry, please refrain from asking questions unrelated to the press conference." She tried to control the situation, but it was no use. The reporters’ hunger for gossip was too strong.
In the end, the situation was beyond saving. Gabriel Walker’s wife and father-in-law had no choice but to make a hasty, embarrassing exit.
Backstage, her father-in-law immediately started throwing things. "Look at the great husband you picked! You just had to marry him! Do you have any idea how much trouble he’s caused me over the years?"
"I’m on the verge of a promotion! If that Gabriel Walker ruins this for me, I swear I won’t let him off the hook!"
